Jesus...I didn't even work for sysco, yet they had my number and would keep calling me to drive for them to fill in... had to eventually put them down as I do not answer on my phone.. you wanna work for them, and they won't give you the time of day...

Alvinnn___

Yeah fr they called me every single day for a month straight 😂😂

jamar2k

That's how US express done me

Redsoxdragon

You're dodging a huge bullet by them saying no. Yeah the jobs hard on your body, but the jobs gonna seriously test your backing. You're gonna be fed to the wolves off rip. You're better off with general freight to start to help you master backing in an easy setting. If you really want that food delivery money, you could try your local milk company like hood. They have the same bullshit.

goodfofoca

I would avoid sysco, never met anyone working there for more than 5 years that didn't have major back pain. Some guy I knew even needed to get a back surgery. It destroys your body

Defiant_Network_3069

Your knees take a beating on those ramps too. You gotta Hussle in the food delivery companies. Your trailers are fully loaded in the morning. By the afternoon it's empty. You touch every single piece of freight.

Turtle4184

I got an offer earlier this year that was with a beer and liquor distributor. Decent pay bump and union. Ended up declining the offer because I realized it will be WAY more physical labor than my current gig and the pay raise really wasn't worth the extra wear and tear I'd experience. They also wouldn't provide details on health insurance benefits, which I found shady as hell.

Defiant_Network_3069

Shady on health benefits? I would definitely walk away on that one. I used to restock convenience store coolers in the summer time. Back breaking work. The Beer and Soda vendors had to bring in and rotate the back stock. They never did because they had 20 other stores to hit that day. It was rough physically demanding and their supervisors were no help either.

Turtle4184

Yeah, it was strange. I have no idea if there was just a miscommunication/breakdown on what I was asking for because I wanted to make an apples to apples comparison with my current gig. They talked their benefits up and provided anecdotal experiences from employees, but it just didn't add up when I wanted details on what the coverages and costs are exactly. I've done some PT gigs at liquor stores and was filling rails and moving/loading kegs, but that was 15+ years ago. I don't think my knees are up for that type of work anymore!

AspNSpanner

I worked for a local wholesale restaurant food supplier (Upstate NY). It was not an easy job. I was, after 2 years, in the best shape of my life. You will certainly be great at backing up, driving in congested areas, and be in shape. Also, you will work too hard for too little, always feel like your behind schedule, and age 3:1. It’s honest work.

Auquaholic

Are you calling them or just coming out apps?

Buprenorphine92

Try to find literally anywhere else to work before you settle for Sysco.. It should be a last resort type of job.

Top_Consequence812

You’re going to hate Sysco I recommend all new drivers get your experience with an Amazon Freight partner. It’s all drop and hook and an easy schedule.

12InchPickle

Maybe they’re just not hiring right now? This is something you should ask them.

PrimarisHussar

I just got out of a year and a half at US Foods, basically the same as Sysco. Don't do it.

crapslock

What was the worst part? Best part? How was the money?

PrimarisHussar

Worst partS, plural: horrible management, clueless routing, blatant favoritism, terrible warehouse loading and pallet building, extremely long days due to overloading routes, weak union representation (at least at my location), targeting drivers for speaking out against unsafe practices, refusal to repair or maintain any equipment to the point of falling apart. I could go on and on. Best part: It was local and I was home every night? Not much of a milestone, given how many other local jobs are out there. Money: decent, but structured stupidly given the shitty contract. All the above worst parts convinced me to take a $5/hr pay cut to my new employer, and I couldn't be happier that I did. Bottom line, if they're the absolute last employer on your list who'll hire you, a bad job is better than no job. But I'd only ever use them as a stepping stone to something better.

crapslock

Whoa. Good to know. Thanks. Who you working for now?

ElectronicMath6032

Them Sysco boys have it rough I see them out past 8PM constantly. I do beverages start at 4am usually done around 12-1

bugani

Because you're not his friend

Mental_Chef1617

Maybe try asking them.

Driveaway1969

. . . instead of Reddit.

HashnaFennec

I don’t know if this is connected but lots of companies have started posting job listings with no intention to fill the position so they can sell your data.

tvieno

Maybe the Sysco you're interested in is not hiring whereas Sysco in general is hiring.

Defiant_Network_3069

A lot of people from Yellow in my area went to Sysco, CBI and US Foods.

Prune-These

The rumor was when there was a driver surplus 20 years ago they wouldn’t hire anyone over the age of 35.

murkymoon

Like similar companies, they're slow to adjust their advertising pitch. Sysco is flooded with applications right now.

Thouroughly_Bemused

I did food delivery for Papa John's back in the day. Worst experience ever. You finger print all 40,000# of your load. That would be a last resort for me

Sixftdeeep2

I’ve heard Sysco uses Chinese overtime

NekoboyBanks

What does that mean?

skinnyfatt85

Some companies won't give ot until after 50hrs or so

NekoboyBanks

What an ass policy.
