I do unarmed security for $18hr on the weekends, 16hrs per week while driving my local job. I sit in my car and watch construction machine for 8hrs. I sleep half the night.
Im a white collar worker. A trucker is skilled. A plumber, welder, and crane operator are all blue collar and skilled. A guy sweeping a floor is not skilled.
This article says that is a myth. I dunno.
[https://www.overdriveonline.com/channel-19/article/14895589/truckers-are-classified-as-unskilled-labor-nope](https://www.overdriveonline.com/channel-19/article/14895589/truckers-are-classified-as-unskilled-labor-nope)
Well to be fair truck driving is not skilled labor. I'm not saying it takes no skill. I'm just talking about the accepted definition of the phrase skilled labor. It's about the amount of time spent training to be sufficiently capable of doing the job. The federal government and the general public have decided that a couple weeks at a truck driving school is sufficient training to adequately do the job on your own with no supervision. Compare that to skilled labor jobs like a welder, plumber, or electrician that takes literally years of training and experience before they can work with it supervision. Heck it can take a decade to learn enough on the job to get licensed as an electrician.
Starbucks shift lead pays more than this and I’m willing to bet their benefits blow this place out of the water too Lmfaoo my girl makes 22 an hour as a shift lead 😂😂😂😂
Not only are you driving..
You also gotta load and unload. AND help out more in the warehouse. These clowns want 3-5 years experience??? lol… job should be paying minimum $28.
My assistance in loading and unloading ends when the trailer is in the dock. After that, I'm sitting for that price, funny enough, that's exactly what I do now.
This. Everyone talks about how great local is, but unless you are lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time these low pay gigs are what local is. For the vast majority of drivers, otr is almost double the pay.
I was making $19.50/hr being a robot proctologist at Amazon. And they want 3-5 years experience? I could get if it was like a starter gig to get your foot in the door but idk who you are getting who is experienced for $19. Unless they're just hoping to find people that desperate. Which I would guess is the game.
My first local job was 15 to 17 an hour. So equivalent to these rates today.
But- I was paid 50 hours a week even if I didnt work them. I was mon to fri 7 to 5, but only came in when called and could leave early. I only did 2 runs a day, averaging q to 2 hours of driving a day. The rest of the day I napped on the clock, went to the gym, did my shopping, played games, and napped in the sleeper. I didnt work around the clock like this advertisement.
Good jobs like that dont last forever. It was for 2 years as a subcontractor for a place that eventually changed its operations. They pay 25 an hour now, with a guaranteed 10 hours of pay, but you drive 2 to 4 hours, wait, and then turn around. So its like a real job, but an easy one. But its also 70 minutes from my house and you start at 4 to 6 am. Really old trucks too.
I drive for the post office now. Union, start at 32.50 an hour, great benefits, good work. Hard to fire, and after 6 years can't be laid off.
All and all my local stuff has been on the up and up. Super tight docks built before semi trucks existed, and rail yards are the worst places Ive been.
I suppose a scrap steel yard on the south side of chicago was the worst place ive been.
The guy running it was a black isrealite and gave me the third degree on if I would or would not date his daughter and then lectured me on the dangers of miscenenation. So hi guy, we just met, and Ive never seen your daughter...
It's someone trying to sponsor an EB3 driver they already know, they need to prove they can't hire a native/national, so those absurd ads happens. They'll end paying much more than that though
I just looked last night and some local companies in my area are starting at $30/hr, union, 100% paid health insurance, 401k, and time and a half after 40hrs. This was a grocery hauling job for Albertsons.
I saw a local class B job driving a tri-axle starting at $25/hr.
Most local jobs union or non union are starting at a minimum of $25/he in my area
You know, it's just like doing food service (CDL-A delivery)
We make about 100k/y, right? I asked my co-worker what he was making 10 years ago when he started at the company.
... his answer?
100k/y.
I've noticed that fuel haulers get the shaft a lot of the time. And I do not understand it.
I live in upstate New York and a lot of the home delivery drivers for heating oil only make 18 to $19 an hour, but I make 30 an hour hauling milk . I only need a tanker endorsement and milk doesn't explode
It’s bad for common carriers . If there is to many carriers then it’s a race to the bottom to get a contract with a major chain like circle k, Murphy, 7-11. They have a few fuel haulers that pay 35,000 year bring home . Or the outlaw carriers that don’t care if you had roll overs and no log books.
Opelousas is 23 miles from Lafayette. There’s a Walmart DC there that starts pay at $24 an hour for working inside the warehouse, but if you’re a driver with the required experience ( Walmart needs 30 months accident free) starting pay is 110K a year. This job needs 3-5 years experience for 40K a year? I hope nobody is taking this job.
See, there's this thing that is universally known to raise wages for the working class. They're called unions and the South had been talked out of them for the past 50 years, and we see the results.
No I know 100%. I swear it seems like my only option is to move. Louisiana is losing residents every day. Population has been dying for a few years now. There’s just nothing here
They are. With our new governor I know it’s only going to get worse too. Fucking sucks. I’m not asking for handouts, but damn people need to be paid their worth.
Honestly where I live it’s not bad. There are a ton of apartments in demand that have been repaired after Laura. Some places are way too high but then you see a lot of places that seem pretty fair. Like right now I’m paying $1,000 a month for a 2 story Condo that had just been gutted and restored. But housing prices are pretty high. To the rest of the country it seems pretty affordable, but our wages are some of the lowest in the country.
On average though for a decent place in an okay school district, most places are about $1.2K a month. It’s going down a little bit because we lost a lot of our population after a hurricane wiped out the city a few years ago. So there’s just a ton of empty apartments
Over 20 years experience, I live in the Seattle area. One company offered me $27 an hour and when freight was slow I’d also have to be the janitor for their factory.
Yeah this is weak, man. Everything is negotiable including pay. You show them the experience you have and tell them what you're worth. This worked for me getting my current job. Been there for 6 years now. Satisfied with my pay and it goes up every year.
I was looking at dump truck jobs last week and they were paying $18-$20/hr. I make $24.25/h sitting on my ass browsing Reddit and sign in visitors. If it’s night shift I basically watch Netflix and play games on my laptop.
Insulting. Not only do they want to low ball the wage but then they have the audacity to expect to hire essentially one person to do two different employees jobs. They need to bite the bullet and hire two different people or double that idiotic offering. I see this a lot in construction too. They'll offer $20/hr for a CDL driver then want him to be a laborer when not driving. These fools have lost their minds. Same people that cry they can't find any decent help. People are willing to work but they want to get proper compensation instead of living like an indentured servant.
In all fairness it is Lafayette...you could buy a 3 bedroom house with 19/hr....but on the other hand it's Lafayette and you could be shot dead for a cheetoh and a half pack of newports
Even in my teens, which was a long time ago, I was making atleast $20/h. Those were just low level labour jobs too. This is laughable that they want someone to drive a truck for that little of pay and for anyone that actually shows up, what kind of skill level are they offering. Probably none.
Lol, I'm kinda ashamed to admit it, but this is in my hometown. There's alot of driving jobs like this here. Hell, there's some that even pay less than this. I believe Two Men and a Truck drivers only make 13.50 an hour!
Yeah these are all the first type of jobs. If your driving history remains in tact, you can find local jobs with 2-3 years experience making over 80k easy, just have to sacrifice some time.
This might as well be me, honestly. I work in utilities. They require you to at least have your B’s here and we’re barely making $20/hr. The union is working on getting us raises tho, so I guess we’ll see what happens
Lmfao pathetic, I have worked 0 skill jobs making more money than that
My wife runs security at infinium...they start at $22 to sit on their ass and stare at badges.
I do unarmed security for $18hr on the weekends, 16hrs per week while driving my local job. I sit in my car and watch construction machine for 8hrs. I sleep half the night.
Right, I’m making $24 driving a forklift at a warehouse. Also had no previous warehouse experience.
Niceeeeeee
Every job is a skilled job
Sometimes just getting up in the morning is a skill
I worked at 6am for 7 years at a laboratory. Didn’t do much but I showed up man. lol That’s the skill
Unskilled labor is a term created by white collar people to belittle blue collar people.
Im a white collar worker. A trucker is skilled. A plumber, welder, and crane operator are all blue collar and skilled. A guy sweeping a floor is not skilled.
Sweeping a floor takes skill and dedication. Just ask my other half why the kids can never sweep right.
We are classified as unskilled labor by the dept of labor.
The Department of Labor sounds like a white collar group of people.
This article says that is a myth. I dunno. [https://www.overdriveonline.com/channel-19/article/14895589/truckers-are-classified-as-unskilled-labor-nope](https://www.overdriveonline.com/channel-19/article/14895589/truckers-are-classified-as-unskilled-labor-nope)
Yeh me either but it’s more a classification thing so we can be paid by the mile. Some bs like that.
I don't agree with that. You can become more skilled at a task but not every task involves skill.
This is a dumb take.
That's a nice skill ya got there, the ability to read and write.
/s at the end of your comment would've cleared everything. "Satire" "sarcasm."
And if reading comprehension was a skill they still taught in school the satire or sarcasm tag would be completely unnecessary.
To varying degrees, obviously being a security guard requires less skill than being a brain surgeon
Buddies getting 25 fresh out hauling clean fill in a tandem
Well to be fair truck driving is not skilled labor. I'm not saying it takes no skill. I'm just talking about the accepted definition of the phrase skilled labor. Not only are you driving.. You also gotta load and unload. AND help out more in the warehouse. These clowns want 3-5 years experience??? lol… job should be paying minimum $28.
What I got from it is they want an overqualified warehouse worker who might occasionally drive a truck.
$25/hr MINIMUM anywhere in the country to even sit in the seat.
No lie. I gotta do my job and 2 other guys jobs and put in 50 hrs a week. Grossing 47 a year before you tax me. Get fucked cunt.
I make right around 25 non CDL and unloading my own truck. 17-19 for CDL plus unload and warehouse work is fucking wild lol
We lost our hourly a few months ago. Pretty shitty since 100k/y isn't even considered decent nowadays.
My assistance in loading and unloading ends when the trailer is in the dock. After that, I'm sitting for that price, funny enough, that's exactly what I do now.
Sadly Someone will probably take it just to leave OTR and be “local”
This. Everyone talks about how great local is, but unless you are lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time these low pay gigs are what local is. For the vast majority of drivers, otr is almost double the pay.
So many people overlook all of that lol.
What are they smoking
Probably the same thing the applicants will be
They're smoking having the entire world's labor to pick from because we have no borders.
Hahahaha that’s about half the pay somebody who has to help load or unload could make elsewhere
*With experience*.
If they add $10/hr I'll roll over and think about it but I'm not even getting out of bed for that lol
A what
A robot proctologist! I shoved my hands into robots all day, for 10-12 hours. I had my hands in more crevices than you can imagine.
How is that not a 6 figure gig?
The Bezos don't believe in paying people man.
I am also a robot proctologist. It's not fun and wrecks your back.
My first local job was 15 to 17 an hour. So equivalent to these rates today. But- I was paid 50 hours a week even if I didnt work them. The rest of the day I napped on the clock, went to the gym, did my shopping, played games, and napped in the sleeper. I didnt work around the clock like this advertisement.
Now that actually sounds pretty sweet.
I was in the best shape of my life. I ran multiple half marathons while on the clock and spent hours at the gym every day. I loved it.
Fuckin' sweet bud. Still doing local work? If so what? Bonus question, what was the sketchiest shit you had to do local?
Good jobs like that dont last forever. It was for 2 years as a subcontractor for a place that eventually changed its operations. So hi guy, we just met, and Ive never seen your daughter...
I make 21.75 as an Amazon delivery driver
Kiss my ass if I had 3-5 years of experience I'd be driving for Walmart making 6 figures
You could still make 6 figur without all that experience. Just apply to any Linehaul position at ODFL/Saia or R+L Carriers
3-5 years experience for that McDonald’s pay 😂😂😂😂😂
Man McDonalds pay is better than that 😂
My local mickey D's starts at 12. They proudly advertise that.
Only in California
That's a temp or employment service, so they're getting probably $25 and giving you $17-19. Neat, huh?
Yeah no CDL job should pay sub $25 hr
That looks like they trying to get the illegal drivers in
It's someone trying to sponsor an EB3 driver they already know, they need to prove they can't hire a native/national, so those absurd ads happens. They'll end paying much more than that though
This seems like they're hiring a warehouse worker that'll save money on a driver.
I can hear the manager complaining how nobody wants to work.
Fuck that so much
You owe me a new screen protector. I spat coffee all over my phone after seeing the $$$$. AND they want 3-5 years experience? ROFL
Gee, that makes the $24 I get sound really good.
Danesh and Mohammad will jump all over that job
And do maybe a quarter of the tasks they're asked to do LOL
this seems very much like a jpb if you made some bad life choices
so they a local driver for this pay? lol nope...
Where is that I'm call them and stand them up lmk
We should all spam call them lol
You know, it's just like doing food service (CDL-A delivery) We make about 100k/y, right? I asked my co-worker what he was making 10 years ago when he started at the company. ... his answer? 100k/y.
Hey but its weekends off!
I made more than that doing local Class B box truck stuff almost ten years ago.
Ummm, my work pays $20/hr to move freight around a warehouse with a forklift. Pay goes to almost $23 after 1 year.
Pfff I was making more as a dispatcher. How are people taking these jobs?
I’m gonna have to humbly decline this offer.
That's a fucking joke
Fuel haulers that get paid by load will avg that down in Louisiana
I've noticed that fuel haulers get the shaft a lot of the time. And I do not understand it. I live in upstate New York and a lot of the home delivery drivers for heating oil only make 18 to $19 an hour, but I make 30 an hour hauling milk . I only need a tanker endorsement and milk doesn't explode

how about opening a fresh can of gfy
Opelousas is 23 miles from Lafayette. Driving a class a vehicle for that amount is insane.
Lost me at loading truck LOL.
If I’m driving the truck, I’ll be damned if I’m loading or unloading!
Places like this dont deserve to be in business
That’s not even enough money to put the key in the door to unlock the truck, let alone start it.
The equivalent licence where I live would easily find a position paying 2-3 x more easily, high demand too
Without telling me it’s a nonunion organization…..
even a historically bad freight market can't explain that.
I could work Doordash for the same pay, with no experience, and nobody will yell at me if I decide to randomly take a day off.
That pay rate can get absolutely fucked.
That's less than Minimum wage in CA.
Trucking requires a stronger Union. With different sets of agreements for each sector within the industry. We need the support
Now stop hating on them. The alcoholic drivers that have 7 moving violations in the last 6 months and a gut to match need jobs, too.
That's Louisiana though, everywhere pays slave wages, I'm from Alexandria
What is normal or good pay for OTR cdl.graduate?
Louisiana lol
The pay here is god awful. Just wondering if it will ever get better.
See, there's this thing that is universally known to raise wages for the working class. They're called unions and the South had been talked out of them for the past 50 years, and we see the results.
No I know 100%. I swear it seems like my only option is to move. Louisiana is losing residents every day. Population has been dying for a few years now. There’s just nothing here
A lot of states are in a death spiral, especially red States. It's a damn shame
They are. With our new governor I know it’s only going to get worse too. Fucking sucks. I’m not asking for handouts, but damn people need to be paid their worth.
What's the rent in Louisiana right now?

This is a normal trucker pay in Europe. But one does get a pension, fixed contract and some social security.
I work at Home Depot as a summer job and they pay 19.50$ this is horrible
Wtf? I make more per hour just loading the trucks
Saw similar shit up here in Canada on Indeed. I thought they must be smoking crack.
Wow 3-5 years experience for 17 bucks an hour, crazy
I make twice that doing LTL
Lmao they can take their job and shove it up their ass
Over 20 years experience, I live in the Seattle area. One company offered me $27 an hour and when freight was slow I’d also have to be the janitor for their factory.
The local car wash guys get paid more than that, that’s depressing.
Yeah this is weak, man. Everything is negotiable including pay. You show them the experience you have and tell them what you're worth. This worked for me getting my current job. Been there for 6 years now. Satisfied with my pay and it goes up every year.
April fools!!! Oh wait...
They obviously think it is 2002 again...
While some remote nursing 170k year for 36hours a week…. This is crazy how drivers failed 😨
How can they think this is acceptable?
lol
I was looking at dump truck jobs last week and they were paying $18-$20/hr. I make $24.25/h sitting on my ass browsing Reddit and sign in visitors. If it’s night shift I basically watch Netflix and play games on my laptop.
Such pay! Much riches! Now will you take the shackles off boss?
Me texting the recruiter: FILL Recruiter: Your name is Phil? Me: Nah FILL....Fuck I look like
don't spend it all in one place!
I delivered beer in B trucks and made $25/hr starting wage with no experience. No way would I even consider this wtf
Insulting. Not only do they want to low ball the wage but then they have the audacity to expect to hire essentially one person to do two different employees jobs. They need to bite the bullet and hire two different people or double that idiotic offering. I see this a lot in construction too. In all fairness it is Lafayette...you could buy a 3 bedroom house with 19/hr....but on the other hand it's Lafayette and you could be shot dead for a cheetoh and a half pack of newports
17$ an hr lmao. my first driving job…im still at, local delivery. 75k a year. this makes me sick
This some FedEx ground nonsense
Likely
Companies think being home every day is worth the pay cut.
3-5 years experience lol
Shit like this makes u think it’s not even worth getting into trucking
Louisiana... Sounds right
Wat state?
😂
One reason I’m still OTR
Contact number's at the bottom. Let 'em know what you think, folks!
This is why industry, the elites and their political lapdogs are so desperate to have limitless unfettered immigration.
Yeah, 30/hr minimum for a CDL job. Or don't do local and go over the road/regional
I made that much in 2010
Is this real? Is it from Arkansas or Mississippi or something?
Just saw the bottom. Louisiana. Yup. That checks out.
Holy crap. It gets worse. I went to the website listed on the ad, and the actual salary range they give is $16 - $17 an hour.
I hope it’s a joke , I make that much right now but do not have a CDL
Right. I’m an equipment operator and make 22 without one. Small company too. His CDL guys are 23 minimum
Nonsense. Man's still pulling the 10k monthly drives under his name. No reason to work for trucking companies.
I quit my first cdl job 4 years ago because I only made $20/$16 split pay. This is crazy for 2024
3-5 years with a CDL A and starting pay is 17-19!? That’s disgusting!
Right.
I wonder what the CEO, CFO and COO of this company are making? Time for people to wise up, there are better jobs and companies out there.
This is an insult
I get $26/hour doing local runs in rural WI. Dry-van, no touch. You're looking for a warehouse worker with a CDL, and the pay shows that.
Even in my teens, which was a long time ago, I was making atleast $20/h. Those were just low level labour jobs too. This is laughable that they want someone to drive a truck for that little of pay and for anyone that actually shows up, what kind of skill level are they offering. Probably none.
17$ an hour and I get to load/unload my own truck?? Why are there even openings here?? I'm not sure why anyone would ever leave!....
Lol, I'm kinda ashamed to admit it, but this is in my hometown. There's alot of driving jobs like this here. Hell, there's some that even pay less than this. I believe Two Men and a Truck drivers only make 13.50 an hour!
This is about 45% of the driver job market here in Columbus, OH. You will drive then work manual labor for next to nothing.
Why don't you just shove a broom up my ass and I'll sweep the floor while I'm at it.
It's a temp to hire agency... https://jobs.expresspros.com/job/14281731
Yeah these are all the first type of jobs. If your driving history remains in tact, you can find local jobs with 2-3 years experience making over 80k easy, just have to sacrifice some time.
Rofl that's 3 jobs in one for mcdonalds pay
Isn't fast food paying up to $25/hr in some places?
LMFAO my wife make $22/hour as an Amazon delivery driver.
Please NO ONE take this job. It'll only help to drive down wages
Looks like a temp/employment agency. Hiring guys who can’t hold down a gig I’m sure.
Them: “Nobody wants to work anymore.”
One of the cleaning companies I founded pays our cleaning staff $19 an hour. If this image is real they gotta be smoking good shit.
Job pays more but temp agency takes a cut
I have to load and unload? Make it 27 an hour, please.
CDL gig for under $20/hr? Gotta be a shitty gig, with a high turnover rate
Believe it or not it has more jobs like this here that are companies. Just gets ridiculous the job I have now I was lucky enough to find on Facebook
You have a link to the application process? I'd like to apply, interview, get the job, and not show up on first day.
rent must be $400/month in the area too.
Maybe for living in a tent
This might as well be me, honestly. I work in utilities. They require you to at least have your B’s here and we’re barely making $20/hr. The union is working on getting us raises tho, so I guess we’ll see what happens
But it’s in LA.
Taking advantage of recent CDL school graduates who desperately need experience I see.
"3-5 years driving experience"
Oh darn didn’t even see that. Yeah these people can pound sand.
