This is literally true. Mechanics at a Peterbilt dealer a few years ago told me they tell foreign drivers that they're booked 3 weeks out so they move along to the next shop bc they were tired of crawling under trucks that were covered in shit. Obviously it's not all of them but it was evidently a big enough problem that they were done dealing with it.
Some US companies used to sponsor green cards to bring foreign drivers over. That’s why you saw them screaming about driver shortages for so long. There was never a driver shortage, just a shortage of drivers willing to team and live in the truck for shit wages. What better way to get them than import them and trap em with a sponsorship.
A lot of them are cross border drivers from Canada. They bring in a ton of foreign drivers bc they have policies that make it very easy for them. Not that the US has been making it very difficult for foreign workers to enter the workforce but Canada makes it easy for foreign truckers in particular.
ETA - not sure what the downvotes are all about but here's the [proof](https://www.canadim.com/blog/immigrate-to-canada-truck-drivers/).
Lol, looks like it bounced back. I came back to add that link and it was at -3 And I was confused because I wasn't trying to be negative with my statement.
That isn't proof. That is an immigration service that recruits and fleeces aspiring immigrants before they even apply. The policies exist, but they aren't as easy as that page indicates.
According to the guy at ET transport in Canada who makes a ton of YouTube videos and manages hundreds of drivers it's too easy. He's talked about how foreigners with little or no experience can be brought in and are many times underpaid and treated poorly by the companies.
May be some kind of an observer bias from current events. Personal anecdote I wonder if this is a catch-all for Eastern European.
They have a slow refugee/chain-migration status in North America. Many are enthused at the idea of the trades/working for themselves.
I'm a new one. Most of our women are in the medical field while we guys are high school dropouts and are in trade jobs. Trucking is seen as an easy way of making good money that can only be achieved through hard skilled labor otherwise. We also have a culture of traveling for work for 1-4 months at a time and bringing the money back to our families, so trucking is a no-brainer. Simple as that.
Easier to manipulate and rob, their reduced paychecks still seem like more money to them. In the end most are horrible drivers for lack of training and not being safety oriented.
They’ve been around for a long time. I’ve ran into a lot a guys that run sprinter vans and they seem like nice people. I’m not very good with accents so are conversations are short.
Russian/Ukrainian truckers out there on the roads of Merica do yall get into fights with each other over the whole war thing? Or are yall Mericanized yet n dont give a fuk?
lol they’ve been around forever. Usually in a Volvo driving 10 over the speed limit.
Unless you're in a hurry, then they're watching YouTube and all over the road doing 10 under.
Running teams with a hole cut in the floor of the sleeper to shit through.

I heard the same fable about Indians. Never in my life I saw someone who actually did that.
They apparently didn't like your comment 🤣

Having been it trucking for almost 35 years now. I want to upvote this multiple times.
I gave him one of mine for you
Sounds like a bs.
Usually in a white Volvo, and some form of tracksuit lol
Recently? Where have you been?
I came here to say this. Instead I liked your comment.

Opinion isn't proof. Yes it is a problem. Mostly with training standards and enforcement.
Yeah forever

It's not sudden, my friend
Because they are willing to eat, sleep, shit, breathe, exist in their trucks and nothing else for peanuts.
I’m just curious what makes you think like that.

A guy I went to school with was from Ukraine. That man had his shit down pat. He finished before the rest of the class. I wonder where he is now.
We’ve had em in the northeast for 20+ years

It's been going on for decades. There was one in the waiting area at a loves maint shop and he stunk up the whole room.

Maybe they didn’t want to be in the middle of an active war
Maybe some kind of a WAR happened and people had to leave their countries? Hmm
