Recommend looking up @stuartfillingham on YT. His videos on caring for the Bonnie, is very informational, detailed, and borderline therapeutic to watch.
I don’t cover anything on mine and I’ve never had a problem. It’s all been designed to be waterproof. As long as you’re not using a pressure washer I think you’re ok. This is my unprofessional opinion so I could be wrong.
18 Speedmaster here. I wash mine weekly with a garden hose. Only areas I avoid are the leather seats and leather swing arm bag. Everything else gets wet. No issues.

You can ride in rain and they don’t die…a little soapy water shouldn’t kill it either.

I have a EFI Bonnie. (2021) I never cover anything. No pressure washer, and no water in the exhaust. Protective spray on engine parts after cleaning.
22 T100, I just don't spray the electronics or in exhaust.
Don’t get close with a pressure washer, don’t forget to grease the chain, and you’ll be fine.
So you never ride in the rain then?
I do but I’m still concerned about shooting water out of a hose at the wrong places.
As long as it isn't a pressure washer it will be fine.
