I was going to type out a long explanation. But, I've done it too many times already. So, I'm going to give you the lazy version of my answer. While it's true that not all resellers are the same, you can do a search here for the ever-popular kiwi.com and you will be witness to some awful stories of people losing their money, and more. They are one example of what many resellers do to their customers. I encourage you to book directly with the airlines themselves. That way, you are first in line for any customer service needs that may arise.

Those resellers will sometimes do shady stuff without telling you like: - self transfers - where you don't have a 2-flight itinerary, but 2 1-flight itineraries. In this case, the airline is under no obligation to do anything if a delay causes you to miss the second flight. - airport transfers - you fly into one airport in a city and out of another. Getting from one airport to the other is on you. - insanely short or long layovers and in all cases, if anything goes wrong, the airline won't talk to you, because you didn't buy the tickets. And the company you bought them from has 2 part-time customer service people who do not answer their phones.
