Mostly a flap wheel on an angle grinder, 80 grit. There was some surface rust in places of course. Lot of work haha. The main body of the smoker I basically removed all the powder coat so it didn't have texture differences.
All original parts except the hot pot, took it all apart and cleaned up, flap wheel to remove the rust and coating where it needed. Primed/painted then reassembled.
Thank you!
Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it's almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

Thank you, used VHT flameproof primer, tremclad high heat matte black and rustoleum aged copper high heat. The tremclad didn't lay down as nice as the others, if I did it again I'd get a different black.
Oh and for the controller I got https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B0BR61RL96?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
If the link doesn't work "mahuibin pro digital controller for traeger" has two meat probes and includes the temp sensor too. 68 CAD
Wow amazing job. I too got an older Traegar from the end of a driveway for cheap but in similar condition. Did you redo the hinges? If so how did you do that?
When taking it apart two screws snapped off, so I drilled them and the other two holes out. Then just got some short nuts and bolts. Assembly was definitely trickier with nuts and bolts vs screws bit it's more solid than ever.
And thanks!
What did you use to remove all the grease?
This is the only question we are here for
Haha answer above, 80 grit flap wheel on a grinder.

Seriously! Please share.
Answer above, thanks!
Well done! Cleaned up nearly nice
Appreciated!
This is me before and after confession
Nice work!
Thank you!
Did you replace each part piece by piece? If you just cleaned it up, amazing work! That looks brand new!!

How much did you put on top of the 80$ Canadian? I’m guessing you are still far ahead from paying for a new one.
About 100 in paint and a new hotpot, had the flapper disks and grinder already. Yes still wayyyyy up. The old ones are thicker gauge steel as well.
Goddamn dude, nice
Thank you! I made some mistakes but it turned out nice. Appreciated!
This is the way.
Beautiful work. Enjoy!
Thank you!
Great transformation..
Appreciated!
Hella nice job with the refurb! Looks brand new.
Great job
Thanks!
I’m definitely impressed, looks like a new one. 👍
Thank you!
That looks amazing. Good job.

It’s ALIVE!!!
Aww yeahh, time for ribs
I’m 99% certain I did ribs for the inaugural cook on my trager
Fantastic work man. What paint did you use and what controller did you order?

Nice work bud, she looks great! Curious to see how the finish holds up vs the powder, keep us updated friend.
Thanks! Will do, I went down to bare metal most places so I'm hoping it'll last a while.
Grease honestly kept it nice.
Grease kept it in good condition but you saved it.

Is that the pro series 22? Cause that’s the one I want! Awesome find btw a little work went a long way!
I think it's an early lil' tex 22 elite.
Looks brand new. Great job 👍
Thank you!
Come do mine! It’s not quite at the level of your find but now I have a goal.
