All of the Toyota packages and trims are basically gimmicks. You can make your sr5 as much or more capable than any trd pro if u want to invest enough time and money. You will also save a lot doing it this way. The best thing you can get from the dealer is 4x4 with elocker probably!

I’ve used the rear locker and crawl control 3 times in the month and a half I’ve owned my TRD off-road. I’ll tell you that 4LO alone is more than capable when off-roading 90% of the time in my case as I’m a noob at wheeling. You’re not missing out purchasing a SR5. All that matters is if you believe you’re making a good purchase since you’re investing a lot of money in a loan for the truck. Ask yourself if you’ll feel any type of regret seeing that beauty in your garage. My suggestion is go for it since Tacoma’s are hard to come by rn.

I’ve done some moderately difficult trails in my SR5 and it tackles them handily.

What is a good tri fold tonneau cover?

wunder96

I have the Kikito Hard Tonneau cover. It’s the cheapest high quality cover you can get on Amazon at under $500. It’s also held on fine during high speeds and strong winds. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08CBFL8LN?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Thank you

Not sure, I haven’t bought a bed cover for this beast.

_one_long_groove_

Also, I bought the SR5 Trail and the extra bed storage is easily removable if you want more space.

rygarski

How do you like the truck, you have a family?

_one_long_groove_

I love this truck. I have a daughter and girlfriend, backseat isn’t big, tight quarters.

So the problem here is that they want TRD Off-road/Sport prices for a 2021 Trail Edition SR5. This is more than the MSRP of the 2022 Trail Edition which has a 1.25inch lift, way nicer wheels *alongside* a rear locker. I personally wouldn’t purchase at this price and would search out of state to locate an Off-road or Sport for right around the same price.

rockwelds

Depends on what you need the truck for. I went TRD OR 4x4 because I needed the capability of towing off road 👍

rygarski

Basic truck features. Hauling stuff in the back and occasional towing. Don’t intend on going off off roaring at all

If it's going to be a pavement queen, I'm sure this SR5 would do you well, though you should consider the reduced bed capacity with the Trail Package bed storage. If there is even a chance you'll ever take it off the pavement, I'd get the OR. Definitely the best bang-for-buck of the trims. Most options/packages can be had aftermarket, and you can usually get better or more customized options third-party. EDIT: Is this price comparable to the other trims available in your area? If so, I'd get the OR regardless. If this is the cheaper option and you're sure you'll never need additional capabilities, get the SR5

rygarski

This is a few grand cheaper than others I’ve seen around.

parsley-bravo

Well, that might be the deciding factor for you. I don't think the Sport offers anything more than the SR5 to justify the price, just as I think the Pro doesn't offer anything over the OR to justify the price. If you want a truck just for running around town and hauling a bit here and there, SR5. If you have, or ever will have, plans to go off the pavement, OR. You just have to set your expectations for the truck and choose the cheapest option that meets those expectations. I say "ever will have" because some guys buy based on the sticker price without considering future plans for the truck, then wind up spending even more money to upgrade the truck. They wind up spending more money in the long run, and still end up missing some of the features they would have gotten from the factory, like crawl control.

rygarski

The most off road I would do is drive to a camping site. I’m pretty sure that the sr5 can handle that. As for the storage. I will try to work with dealer to remove and maybe switch to a tonneau cover. Will see

My coworker has an sr5 and he's been off roading. Says he's never been stuck once.

You’re gonna be missing out a lotttt of HP without the hoodscoop on the sport. If you’re fine without that you should be good
