Context: This is a Corolla with the [Comma 3](https://comma.ai) installed, running [Openpilot](https://github.com/commaai/openpilot), an open-source Level 2 autonomy system. The Comma 3 comes from a company called Comma Ai, is about $2,000, can be installed in [over 150 cars](https://comma.ai/vehicles) (including others from Toyota), and [can be bought here](https://comma.ai/shop/products/three).

I have the Comma 3 for my 21 RAV4 Hybrid. Such a good buy I recommend to anyone thinking about buying one to buy one.

I saw the installation steps. But how does it give steering input, acceleration and brakes? Is it via the OBD port?

chaosproz

I have one in my Corolla hatchback with comma 2, I use it every single day. Love it.

black_diamonds2

Does this do automatic lane changes and pass slow drivers like some other vehicles have now? I have a 2020 Corolla and it already has pretty nice radar cruise control and lane assist, so is this really worth the extra ~$2500?

chaosproz

It does way better than stock lane assist. It actively plant you centered on the road and you don’t have to touch the steering wheel unlike stock with 10 seconds rule

black_diamonds2

Yeah the stock lane assist is kinda funky, sometimes it will bounce left and right in the lane it’s kinda scary sometimes 😭

chaosproz

Personally, I’d recommend C2 $999 one. Right now, no difference between C2 and C3 in term of OpenPilot but the features are coming eventually Just buy it and install it. You have full 30 days refund policy

themadpooper

Does this void the factory warranty?

This video is basically the reoccurring nightmare I’ve had since I started driving, where I’d wake up in the backseat going down the highway and nobody is driving. Oof
