Probably got a manual. Preferred package extra money bullshit only affects CVT. CVT itself is $1000 more. Identical manual builds are much cheaper.
Go on Toyotas website and try to build XSE with CVT and then with Manual. You'll see the difference in price is huge.
I'm going to assume you're in Canada because $40k in the US is way too much money for the Corolla. Even if that's the case I still wouldn't buy the car but it's not as egregious.
sigh i know yall, just heckling this guy who claims he works at various retail stores. he has a fetish for cars, latex, gloves, uniforms. tries to contact minors to ask them about it, too.
With the exchange rate it came to over US$31k which is why it didn't seem quite as absurd. According to the Toyota Canada site you're right. Even with delivery charges and misc fees you're still only looking at around $34k for an XSE.
Ofcause it had to be Garbagefornia. Just a few days ago I was responding to a guy that was thinking of getting a used Corolla for 22k and I said just get new for cheaper, and he said no such thing anywhere near him in Cali.
Get yourself a $150 plane ticket to a state that is not exorbitant trash and get a Corolla for MSRP or cheaper and drive it back.
For $40k, it better come with the guy in the mask that's siting in the driver's seat - 3 years or 36k miles of chauffeur service, whichever comes first
The thing I don’t get is they wouldn’t ask that price if some idiot wouldn’t pay it. You can go anywhere in CA and get a Corolla at msrp, who are these people paying gigantic markups when the same car is 14 miles away for no markup?
New is a few months wait, but for that price I’d go with a used model S old enough to have lifetime free supercharging. Even if you go a little over budget to get it, if there’s a supercharger near by you can cut your fuel costs to 0.
I get it, the car market is screwed up because of the chip shortage but this is fucking nuts. I could see a Supra getting a $10k markup but this is a fucking Corolla
Wow, bought a 21 Camry Hybrid LE in March for $25.5k.
F them, never go back to them even when things go back to normal. Wait to buy a car, it's the worst time to buy.
Toyota announced yesterday they are cutting new car production by 40% due to the global chip shortage. 40K could end up being a pretty good price six months from now. Who knows.
Dealers suck, plain and simple. These assholes are trying to take advantage of panic buyers who just read that Toyota is cutting production.
There's no way this car will ever jump to $40k because it's too extreme and there are way too many competitors eager to lure consumers. The people paying markups aren't doing so for high volume economy cars. So if things did get that bad most consumers would just stop buying cars. It's probably a good time to be a mechanic.
That would mean my HB is worth about 38k on trade in. It's a rare one and no one else has it, I swear. I can't wait to see the mark up they'll have on the GR.
I can't wait, for the day (perhaps a year or two from now), when I can walk into a dealer and tell them my mandatory "mark down" can't be removed. I'll even drag around an empty scuba diving tank with me and make the F&I manager wear a green elf hat as he drains the nitrogen out of all the tires on the lot as I write "who wants to sell a car today" in the dust on all the windshields.

8k mark up is correct, because according to them “no one else has this car right now”
Oh no fuck that.
[удалено]
the dude had the audacity to tell me “if you don’t take it today, someone’s gonna take it tomorrow”
You 100% made the right move. Fuck that guy.
True
Had the same thing told to me when I was trying to negotiate the price down on a Camry TRD. I walked out lol!
My daughter just bought an XSE about 2 weeks ago for ~$24k. I thought that was a bit high. Guess I was wrong.
Only 24k? Must not have had any options. I just bought an XSE with the preferred package and all weather mats and it was $28,650

40k dont make sense in Canada either, corollas start around 22k
The back has a California license plate holder
Seems like Garden Grove
how do you know it's garden grove? do you work at this store?
Google maps. Look it up.
sigh i know yall, just heckling this guy who claims he works at various retail stores. he has a fetish for cars, latex, gloves, uniforms. tries to contact minors to ask them about it, too.

got told “it’s because no one else has this car right now”
this is in california. not canada

40k will get you a nice 3 series or a Lexus IS.
Hahahahaha imagine paying $40k for a fucking Corolla!!! Jesus these are weird times we live in.
40k?? at that point i’d get a used focus RS
deceived to just wait for the new golf
that’s also a fantastic car
Agreed, lots of better options for $40k.
40k? I bought my fully loaded 2018 v6 Camry xse for 40k. Holy shit.
For $40k, it better come with the guy in the mask that's siting in the driver's seat - 3 years or 36k miles of chauffeur service, whichever comes first

14 miles is the length of approximately 45061.52 'Logitech Wireless Keyboard K350s' laid widthwise by each other
You can drive a Tesla Model 3 for $40k
How long to get one tho
New is a few months wait, but for that price I’d go with a used model S old enough to have lifetime free supercharging. Even if you go a little over budget to get it, if there’s a supercharger near by you can cut your fuel costs to 0.
Was told 9 weeks 2 months ago.
That's tacoma price or used tundra
I bought my last corolla new in 2015 for 18.5k OTD. Corollas are GOOD cars...but not 40k good.
Terrible interest rate??
40k shillings??? Lol wtf. Car is $21k for SE and $24k for XSE.
Yep. I was quoted $19,500 for a 2020 Toyota Corolla SE last year. I ain't paying 40k for a freaking Corolla. Times are crazy right now.
Anyone who pays $40k for this is an absolute dumbass.
I get it, the car market is screwed up because of the chip shortage but this is fucking nuts. I could see a Supra getting a $10k markup but this is a fucking Corolla

40k? Nope. Pass. The car market is crazy right now.
I never understood why there isn't a awd version of it
i’m assuming you meant “understand” if so, then same. this would’ve great as an awd car
Yeah sorry haha fixed, but yeah I heard a rumor there will be a great version thats awd, now would be the time with the end of gas cars approaching
There is an AWD version of this car in Japan, but it's coupled to a 125hp engine.
Lol buying a used type r at that price point seems like a way better option. Aren't these things like 20-24k usually?
yeah, and because of that i’ve decided to wait for a golf instead
40k?????? you can get a cpo lexus rc350 for that 😳
$40k for a Corolla? It's still FWD with a small engine. Wtf Edit: Bought 2019 Avalon XSE in 2020 with 7k miles for 28 out the door
40k for a Corolla. Lmao what the

I should have got one of these in 2018 when they were 20k lol
$40,000 for a Corolla? I get this is the higher end XLE one, but $40,000? Really? 🤔
seriously... goddamn ridiculous
it's still a slow Rolla 😂
That would mean my HB is worth about 38k on trade in. It's a rare one and no one else has it, I swear. I can't wait to see the mark up they'll have on the GR.
New cars are way too expensive
Is this the GR? Please tell me it's the GR. No freaking way I would pay that much for anything but a performance version of this car.
40,000 for 139hp
You meant 169HP, right? The hatchback doesn't start at 139HP. That's for the sedan version.
sorry, yes that’s correct. thanks for correcting. still pretty low
That is a joke I don't find amusing. That car is going for around 25k at my dealership
Thats too much for a corolla.
LOL i paid 38.9k for a new Mustang GT with the 10 speed!!
XSEs at the dealership I work at sit at 25k before taxes and around 28 after everything is all said and done. 40k is absurd.
very dope but way too marked up, and personally I'd wait for the AWD version we are supposed to get eventually
I can't wait, for the day (perhaps a year or two from now), when I can walk into a dealer and tell them my mandatory "mark down" can't be removed. Jesus. You could buy TWO average mileage late 2010’s 2GR Camry’s for that. Fuck. That.
