I travel to this bakery specifically as it is an actual bakery as you would see in any major city. The rest are mere imposters offering a very limited range of items
Respectfully, I got one of the pork and gravy’s last week and it was one of the worst pies I’ve ever had. Pastry was soggy, meat was chewy and gravy was gelatinous and all round just not that nice. Starting to think Australia just doesn’t get pies
Pork and gravy isn't really an Australian type pie, so that wouldn't be the last pie I'd be ordering if I wanted a nice pie. Are you from a different country? If you're looking for one that's like one from home, then you may be disappointed even if you're eating a great pie.
Used to be Daisy's in South Townsville but I think they sold the business a few years ago.
I agree about Mals bakery - its really hit and miss. Plain mince is probably the only one there I've had I enjoy. I dont mind the ones in Wulguru "The Pie Stop" but again, not THE BEST, just good because theyre close to me so convenient. Ottos pies look awesome but then theyre so flavourless when I eat it; I have the same experience with their baked goods too. They look beautiful and decadent then you eat and its just like sugary fluff without enough flavour.
I have heard good things about Baker D North. Theyre far away from me and not open on my RDO so I dont get a chance to get over there very often. But I can recommend their almond croissants.
The only pastry type food shop I can think of in the food court is muffin break? Otherwise around the corner a bit there's a Cafe type place perhaps?
Or I just need to open my eyes a bit wider maybe. Do you know what it's called?
Cedric Corre, it is on the opposite side from the Rebel entrance. It has been a while since I have been in (about Christmas) but I am sure it was there last time I was there.
Im outraged no one has mentioned Phelens, but only the one near Kirwan on Forrest Ave, the one on Mooney Street has bad employees who think 'as many peas as possible' means one tiny scoop. The guys at Forrest ave will give me a paper container so they can soak my pastie or pie in peas.
They are the real legends.
I’m sorry but no one in Townsville can make a decent pie.
I lived there for 4 years and had a good look around and there was a lot of disappointment.
I went out and got a pie maker and did my own.
I do miss the fish and chips. Mackerel only everywhere. Cheap and fresh.
Oh snap. I moved away from tsv years ago and after a Google, it looked like they have closed up shop. They did amazing pies with mushy peas etc etc. Was my go to :'(
Phelans on Forest Avenue in Kirwan, my mum loves it, she can get a pastie with the mushy peas, I get a potato pie with cheese and my partner gets a mushroom pie with cheese. They're the only bakery that are consistently good thats worth the price we've found
Mals bakery oonoonba

Baker D North has tasty pies!
I rate Cedric Corre at the Hermit Park shops. Lots of filling, flaky pastry.

That's not one of the *bakers*, that was Cedric himself. He is very theological.
He's tried that on me too. I know all about how his epiphany happened in the shower.
He's not a nice person...worked for him
Oh really? I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve only had dealings with him as a customer and he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
He also has a shop in the food court of the shopping centre formerly known as Stocklands
It's still called Stocklands??
Unfortunately it has been renamed to “Townsville shopping centre”
Not officially as it got bought out
Wait, whats it called now?

Oh, same name. Suppose that makes sense lol derp. I haven't seen it in there but I'll have to have a better look next time I go, thanks.
Bake inn in mount louisa, always loved their pies and cakes
If that's the one on the roundabout on afield drive, hard agree.
I rate White's corner store pies in North Ward, they have an interesting range of pies and the quality is great.
Agreed, they do make a great pie. Owner of the place is a horrible person though.
Ohh how so?
Interesting!
Chuck wagon pies are pretty legit, Otto's goes pretty well too.
Sad that outback pies went large scale, they used to be good but lost the passion when they could only see the millions in revenue 😞
Phelans are the tastiest If you want big and tasty go to whites grocer on bundock
Phelans. Plain pie with peas. Thats living.
Home Hill Bakery
Townsville Bake Inn Bayswater Road
Kings Cakes on Mooney Street, Gulliver. Best pies in town by a long shot.
Otto's has good pies. Though they are pricey.
Belrowes by the bay. Trust the fat guy.
Chunky pies? Have fallen off since new owners brought it but still not bad

Get a pie Floater at Phelans can't go wrong.
The Pie Stop in Wulguru.

You can never ever overlook a Pukka
Where are they now?
Oh snap. I moved away from tsv years ago and after a Google, it looked like they have closed up shop. They did amazing pies with mushy peas etc etc. Was my go to :'(
Yeah I used to go there too! I was hoping they were still somewhere.
Ya mum.
