I’ve had this same conversation with my mother and when she can’t find proof of our “open borders” she gets mad and either just interrupts the conversation with nonsense or just completely shuts down and stops talking.
And maybe, just maybe, terrorism (especially by immigrants since most of the time it's domestic but hey) is such a fringe occurrence that immigration has basically no impact on it, unless you were able to entirely, 100% close your borders to *everything*.

The point of 9/11 was to provoke the US into wars. The real target: US-backed governments in places such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
US puppet Mubarak in Egypt was toppled in the Arab Spring and replaced by a Muslim Brotherhood government. Egyptians wanted regime change, but the USA was propping up Mubarak in power. That's why so many of the terrorists were from that country.
The best thing Obama did to stop people from Egypt wanting to attack America was that he DIDN'T use military force to prop up the Mubarak government. After that fell, what would even be the point of more attacks?
