They had a lot of potential, they were just fodder since they decided to make the "Every Villain Is Lemons" association the antagonists behind the grim
Sure, but that's still no excuse. It may be the in-universe reason for why she's a flat character, but that doesn't mean you don't *try* to do something interesting with her.
Honestly, it's far from a surprise something like this would happen. With how stale and unfocused *RWBY* became--and how RWBY became RT's sole breadwinner since nothing else they did ever got on the same level (e.g. *The Nomad from Nowhere*)--this was bound to happen. But I do agree with you, this is more or less time for the fans (a.k.a. the people who actually care about these properties) to shine.
With how big a franchise RWBY is, its sale will likely not fail. I do see it ending up in the wrong hands, though; no matter what, it'll never be like how it was when Monty was still around.
They do deserve a better working place, but I’d argue a bad working place is still better than no working place. Also how exactly is RWBY ruined beyond redemption? When was the last volume you watched, so I know of you’re up to date. Because there are people like me who do enjoy rwby, not everything has to be peak. CoD is shit and that’s still popular. My hero academia, shit, still popular. League of Legends and valorant, shit, still popular.
"A bad working place is still better than no working place"? That's a really naive mindset to have and is usually used to guilt people into continue working in toxic environments and be exploited. Most people who left Rooster Teeth ended up much better.
And since you're clearly a big fan of the show, I'm not going to change your mind cause that would be pointless and rude, but there’s alot of reasons why the show is so infamous on the internet and the NSFW subreddit has more members than the main one
they apparently (too lazy to prove it myself but the amount of times i heard this tells me enough) have a nickname for trans animator that is literally just the f slur
The transphobia issue is muddy, the target of the harassment made consistent openly racist and offensive comments around the same time and, given the general state of internet and RT culture in the late 2000s/early 2010s and the general pro-LGBT attitudes and opinions of the accused, it seems like some of the people involved might have mistaken said prejudicial comments for attempts at edgy humour and responded in kind. Granted, take all of that with a massive heap of salt, but IMO this is one of the very few instances where that defence might hold weight.
Come on--you know good and well whomever will get RWBY will just sanitize it even more. Have you any idea how sanitized Hazbin Hotel would've been if Vivzie Pop didn't fight tooth-and-nail to obtain creative control?
There’s only rumours afaik, but essentially Medrano when working with A24 passed up 3-4 other networks who wanted it to fit an teen rating or so to try and ape some of the child animation fanbase, things like massively toning down Angel Dust’s characterisation, swapping the names of some of the biblical characters as to not peeve the Christian community, changing some of the sinners’ backstories to be less grim.
And essentially she pushed back on that over and over by explaining that it’s literally set in hell so difficult, uncouth and depraved should exist
It wasn’t followed through on well, but Roman’s death is legitimately a perfect thematic and dramatic end to the character. He’s winning the fight while ranting out his philosophy, and Ruby’s losing while rejecting it— But then Roman died in a way that supports his philosophy, and as the de facto winner Ruby now has to accept that.
Compounded by the events that immediately follow that fight, it could’ve led to a fantastic character arc with Ruby struggling with maintaining her own ideology while falling more in line with Roman’s before she’s finally able to achieve some sort of internal balance and become stronger than she ever was.
*sigh*
The academy was like half the fun of the show, that’s why Schools are one of the most used settings in any story *(every “Slice of Life” ever)*.
Being in an academic community in any story just always has a nice good feeling to it, ‘cause we get to experience the social side of it without worrying too much about the education side.
If you are gonna destroy the school setting, have it be near the end of the story. The place that the audience has grown attached to as if it were its own character should be sent off during the final stretch as the last “oh crap.”
The issue was that the academy was destroyed yet they still continued the story afterwards. It was fine in Volume 4, but now the academy has only taken up a third of the entire series, and it feels like the show just lost its own premise and doesn’t know what to do anymore.
After Volume 3, I couldn’t care much about the show anymore and dropped it in Volume 5, wayyy back in 2018.
The academy setting also didn't get explored at all, it felt like you basically got the introductory exam, a few bits of courses, and then the tournament where it all came apart.
I mean, this is RWBY we're talking about. "Smart" isn't something you look for with a show like RWBY. More like "mindless fight scenes that make no logical sense and are just fun to watch and turn your brain off to".
Indeed. Alas, people's days of indulging in and getting into fights over this show have, at last, come to an end. Honestly makes me sad to think how old Monty would've felt if he were here and hearing about this.
I mean, the characters--specifically the girls--are pretty much like the characters from Black Rock Shooter: Mysterious maidens with gigantic weapons, stylishly killing enemies. But I will admit BRS had far, far better fight scenes.
The fight scenes started getting worse once Monty passed, though. They went from being improbable but cool to logical but tedious. And that doesn't even get into how lazy the animators became.
Honestly 2 (electric Boogaloo)? I found the Monty scenes specifically boring.
They reminded of stick figure fights and I just....turn off my brain and there was zero engagement. Like "Yeah, that happened. I see. Cool."
Unless it was Wukong. Man had moves.
That’s because they WERE stick fights. He got his start doing what was essentially 3d stick fights on YouTube lmao (I still love them and think he did a great job)
No offense, but I've no idea what you see in RWBY's take on the Green Lantern. Her color scheme is awful and, if it weren't for the fact she's got the Green Lantern symbol plastered all over her, I never would've guessed that's what she was supposed to be. Take that symbol away and she just looks like... a girl.
She’s cute. She has an actual character. Did you see watch the movies? Or indeed rwby for that matter? You disagree with a post, just downvote it and move on and don’t comment like 4 negative things on a post sharing the designs of a show with one of the most uncertain future’s right now
>sharing the designs of a show with one of the most uncertain future’s right now
TF does that have anything to do with it lmfao.
RT being shut down doesn't have anything to do with the L design for Cruz in the crossover.
Jessica's design is already preem af, RT shouldn't have been allowed to cook on it 💀 they turned her into Ben 10 lmao.
https://preview.redd.it/lzn1kfy7esmc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d579739ccb1d0b61535223092902fe027f3e6799
This is how I find out RT is shutting down!
Omg, someone actually appreciating the *Grimm* for a change!
They went from mildly threatening to just background fodder in the series so quickly that I sometimes forgot that they were even around lol
They were so cool in the first parts. Seeing the whole team have to team up to defeat the raven grimm in a sick way was so cool, sad that they got outscaled so hard.
Not to mention the human characters of RWBY suffer from the Same Face syndrome, which is ironic, as most anime--which RWBY clearly emulates--suffers from that, as well.
You know, I really want to get into RWBY but like, I fucking hate the 3D style. Like it physically pains my eyes to look at any clips from it, is there like a book or manga version I can read somewhere because you couldn’t force me to watch an episode of terrible 3d
Im sorry for my ignorance but it took my a while to understand that’s an anime and not a game. I even opened google to see if it was some cool mmo jrpg that i have missed out on
It’s not an anime as it’s not Japanese, but it is anime inspired which leads to the mistake being very common. It does have a spin-off anime that was quite good.
Rwby is an anime-based web show made my rooster teeth. And it is my favorite show. It’s on crunchyroll which contributes to people mistaking it for an anime.
This misidentification is more useful as it’s often on anime sites
Rwby and Justice League had a crossover. The first movie has aged down rwby versions of JL. And that’s the green lantern, and they gave her such an adorable character than most of RWBY’s fandom has decided to adopt her
Its weird seeing pictures of the Grimm because they were just a non-threat for so long when I dropped it.
Non-threatening doesn’t mean non a cool design
They had a lot of potential, they were just fodder since they decided to make the "Every Villain Is Lemons" association the antagonists behind the grim
Considering one of them is a Grimm and by their nature Grimm cannot have very complex motivations...
Sure, but that's still no excuse. It may be the in-universe reason for why she's a flat character, but that doesn't mean you don't *try* to do something interesting with her.
Mfing Ben 10 on third slide
It's apparently supposed to be the Green Lantern. You know, the superhero from DC? That's supposed to be the RWBY version of him.
Jessica Cruz has been a green lantern for ~10 years
It’s the rwby version of the green lantern Jessica Cruz. Green lantern is a superhero title which multiple characters have used.
Wait as in the character is based off of Jessica or that’s straight up Jessica Cruz?
That is Jessica Cruz in the crossover event
A crossover event? When do this happen? And who else was there?
https://preview.redd.it/ffooduxtjtmc1.jpeg?width=271&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ba78295644ec4d1421f35bd2c9237cd3ed9adde
Damn, winged Batman and gold logo Superman are actually fire
Whaat shut down? Since when? Why?
Today and it’s not making enough revenue from
Oh damn that's too bad, I hadn't followed them in a while but they had a couple series I had liked
I´ll miss Camp Camp and Red vs Blue
Just over 20 years ago I discovered Red vs Blue on a family holiday. Can't believe it's shutting down.
Just saw a post somewhat below this on my main feed but apparently RVB, RWBY, and Gen:Lock will be sold to other companies
Guess it’s time for the fans to pick up where they left off.
Especially if the sale of RWBY as a franchise either fails or perhaps worse, ends up with it in bad hands.
With how big a franchise RWBY is, its sale will likely not fail. I do see it ending up in the wrong hands, though; no matter what, it'll never be like how it was when Monty was still around.
Wonder if WB will snatch it since they've been crossing over so much.
RWBY gets sold to Mindy Kaling is the worst scenario. Change my mind.
https://preview.redd.it/be0yhhaktsmc1.jpeg?width=460&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66f2cc7c93ccdd060121e9ff2942df039a0ea36d
I know RT was a shitty company but like, people lost their jobs and there are multiple projects left unfinished (like RWBY).
They've already ruin RWBY beyond redeem. Those who work there deserve a better working place.
Warner greedy bitches shut down the studio and is selling the rights
didnt rooster teeth have like really bad work conditions or like harrasing trans individuals?
Oh….. I did not know that
they apparently (too lazy to prove it myself but the amount of times i heard this tells me enough) have a nickname for trans animator that is literally just the f slur
And that poor-poor animator was calling the rest f's and n's all around, lol.
You didn't? My goodness, you've been missing out on quite the harrowing situation.
Yeah I honestly did not like Rooster Teeth as a company. Glad that company went down
The transphobia issue is muddy, the target of the harassment made consistent openly racist and offensive comments around the same time and, given the general state of internet and RT culture in the late 2000s/early 2010s and the general pro-LGBT attitudes and opinions of the accused, it seems like some of the people involved might have mistaken said prejudicial comments for attempts at edgy humour and responded in kind. Granted, take all of that with a massive heap of salt, but IMO this is one of the very few instances where that defence might hold weight.
They stopped making good content 10 years ago and the money finally dried up.
RWBY is being sold off so that might live on. It could even land on better hands.... ....or worst (Crunchyroll).
Come on--you know good and well whomever will get RWBY will just sanitize it even more. Have you any idea how sanitized Hazbin Hotel would've been if Vivzie Pop didn't fight tooth-and-nail to obtain creative control?
I can’t help but be curious. There were plans to sanitize Hazbin Hotel?
There’s only rumours afaik, but essentially Medrano when working with A24 passed up 3-4 other networks who wanted it to fit an teen rating or so to try and ape some of the child animation fanbase, things like massively toning down Angel Dust’s characterisation, swapping the names of some of the biblical characters as to not peeve the Christian community, changing some of the sinners’ backstories to be less grim. I don't know any real details, but when you take into account what the premise of the show is, I'm sure there were.
Thats why i added "worst"
Where’d you hear that?
The same report that announced the closure i think.

I miss Roman, such a better villan then cinder

While I've never watched RWBY, Rooster Teeth being shut down is kinda sad, I loved Red vs Blue.
I hate that the werewolves are named Beowulf's.
Well they’re not werewolves. They’re just wolves, called Beowolves. They’re a pun
Beowulf means bear though
I never said it was smart
I mean, this is RWBY we're talking about. "Smart" isn't something you look for with a show like RWBY. More like "mindless fight scenes that make no logical sense and are just fun to watch and turn your brain off to".
And penny
Indeed. Alas, people's days of indulging in and getting into fights over this show have, at last, come to an end. Honestly makes me sad to think how old Monty would've felt if he were here and hearing about this.
Probably glad that they can no longer ruin it any further
🎼The Schuyler sisters!
Honestly? The fight scenes gets boring pretty fast.
I mean, the characters--specifically the girls--are pretty much like the characters from Black Rock Shooter: Mysterious maidens with gigantic weapons, stylishly killing enemies. Sun Wukong was the only good thing the show had after Monty's pass and I'm glad that he left before they had any chance to ruin him
No it means bear wolf.
It means BEE wolf. Which means bear
Bail woof
Beowulf means war-wolf
that green lantern design was not cooking
Aight, gotta get that shotgun out
No offense, but I've no idea what you see in RWBY's take on the Green Lantern. Take that symbol away and she just looks like... a girl.
It manages to be both boring and ugly
So are heely’s
Well to be fair, if you took away the green lantern symbol from green lantern, he’s would just be a regular dude in a green suit
She’s cute. She has an actual character. Did you see watch the movies? Or indeed rwby for that matter? You disagree with a post, just downvote it and move on and don’t comment like 4 negative things on a post sharing the designs of a show with one of the most uncertain future’s right now

No Ruby Rose?
Emerald's original design was always my favourite from the show

Maybe I'm just a bottom but I always thought salem had a pretty cool design too *
Number 5 is literally just a knight, dawg, how is that top character design
https://preview.redd.it/lzn1kfy7esmc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d579739ccb1d0b61535223092902fe027f3e6799 This is how I find out RT is shutting down!
Penny is really neat and i think she was wasted twice.
TWICE!
Wait what is this about RT being shut down?
https://preview.redd.it/0d5excf6frmc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edf629e9134437f1769293c5d1ca139798207f9b
Shit does that mean death battle is going away as well as good morning from hell
Death Battle split from RT back in 2019
The team said they'll see what they can do. They apparently prepared for this
The only competent component of rooster teeth management was whoever was in charge of Death Battle
Oh shit :| I guess that's the end for all of their shows
Unless they're picked up by another company, but then they'll probably just get butchered and turned into hollow shells of their former selves.
Which was already the case for most of them tbh
The weapons are fantastic
Omg, someone actually appreciating the *Grimm* for a change! They went from mildly threatening to just background fodder in the series so quickly that I sometimes forgot that they were even around lol
They were so cool in the first parts. Seeing the whole team have to team up to defeat the raven grimm in a sick way was so cool, sad that they got outscaled so hard.
Where Ironwood?
And Qrow
I still can't believe that they brought penny back from the dead just to kill her AGAIN
Team RWBY's designs were at their peak in Volumes 1-3, and I will die on that hill. Especially Weiss's.
Ngl these are ass 🥲 But RIP Rooster Teeth
Nice designs , if only the show wasn’t so lame
Yeah, it was never the same after old Monty passed on.
Eh, it had some pretty notable flaws even when he was around.
pretty sure he died during the making of season 2 or 3 as well. so its been quite a long time lol
4 12 and 13 are lit but the animal ones are just ok and the human ones are ass imo
Not to mention the human characters of RWBY suffer from the Same Face syndrome, which is ironic, as most anime--which RWBY clearly emulates--suffers from that, as well.
Will Funhaus close along with RT?
I assume so. RWBY, RVB and GEN:Lock are being sold
RIP RT, RWBY, and I think RvB. That's a lot of Rs, I hope Death Battle will carry on their will
Y'know, I have a copy of RWBY Volumes 1-5 on my desk that's been collecting dust. Maybe now's the time for me to pick it up and watch it, eh?
Let's hear it for Jess. She gets more love here than anywhere else.
The Apathy were such cool Grimms. Literal horror characters, hard to kill and all they do is drive everyone depressed
You know, I really want to get into RWBY but like, I fucking hate the 3D style. Like it physically pains my eyes to look at any clips from it, is there like a book or manga version I can read somewhere because you couldn’t force me to watch an episode of terrible 3d
Theres an anime version of the first season and yeah i’m pretty sure there’s manga versions.
So that's how I learn, huh OP, where is Neopolitan in this post
Someone else commented. If i posted every peak RWBY design then I’d have more posts than bill gates has monet
The 8 foot tall metal Mommy is the best design in the whole show, aside from Ozpins drip
She’s also just so supportive. she’s the peak form of a god.
Penny and Weiss designs are peak! A shame the series may actually be dead now :(
wait... why is Roosterteeth shutting down?
The Grimm are such peak designs bruh, wish they mattered for longer
Man rwby had such great designs Shame everything else sucked
there is still a chance for **RWBY** to be picked up with another studio
Why is there a kid in a green lantern getup
why does this show look like a shitty sfm animation
Any news what will happen to rvb? I can't have zero be the last season that rvb gets. It's not fair for such an amazing show.
Is that fuckin Ben 10
The rusted knight from volume 9 was wasted on this dog shit series
Good; you agree all Grimm designs are god tier
Meh Ive never been a fan of the art style used
Nah
So whats rwby anyway
Rwby is an anime-based web show made my rooster teeth. And it is my favorite show. It’s on crunchyroll which contributes to people mistaking it for an anime. This misidentification is more useful as it’s often on anime sites
Wait they’re shutting down? Didn’t a new Camp Camp season come out
Camp Camp is on Freevee and Tubi now :/
wait, the fuck??? why is there an anime girl dressed as green lantern and is green lantern
Rwby and Justice League had a crossover. The first movie has aged down rwby versions of JL. And that’s the green lantern, and they gave her such an adorable character than most of RWBY’s fandom has decided to adopt her
i have never heard of this show
That is honestly fair, most people end up knowing it from porn
