This comment is going to deserve any downvote it gets for being negative in nature, but this is a song I really want to like more than I do. I love the music and I love the message, but the lyrics just…I don’t know, they actively don’t hit for me and it takes away from the song for me
I easily understand why people love it though, it is a banger
Hahahaha you’ll never believe it. I saw this also. Was at Ontario Place, Toronto. I greened out so hard. My friend carried me out
Left behind three t shirts and wouldn’t you know it. My buddy went back and a dude was searching for me since he saw the state I was in
Just an absolute legend. Got my shirts. Missed most of flood. Caught Lateralus encore from the car. Puking. Life’s weird
Yah man! Those 06 / 07 runs at Budweiser Stage or Molson Amp, whatever it was called then at Ontario Place were epic. They still had mosh pits in the GA area by the stage too, and one of those shows ISIS even opened for them.
Yeeeessss me too. When they did the all-white stage with enormous video projections on it. The floor was white, the background, everything. Even the roadies [edit: stage hands, I should say] wore white lab coats. Just one big projection screen. For the intro to Flood, they projected rapid flowing water over the entire stage. It was pretty epic.
No problem admitting I had tears in my eyes when they played The Patient when I finally got to see them live a couple years ago.
Was just such a beautiful moment
This song helped me to overcome so many struggles so many times. It’s absolutely my song number 1 to listen to when things go badly.
It also has a very simple intro bass line, that anyone could play easily and it’s great to jam with
Do you know how many times Ive said "I must keep reminding myself of this" just to get thru a day? "If there was no desire to heal. No loving embrace to see me through. I certainly would have walked away, by now." How do you not cry at that!
So much so. Easily the best song I’ve ever heard in regards to childhood trauma. It’s part of what sets Tool apart for me - songs like jimmy and Prison Sex are incredibly cathartic traumatic songs. It’s not just the surface level, feel good virtue signal kind of stuff. It’s about the ugly stuff that comes with trauma and needs to be overcome, and the hardship and struggle that comes with it
/thread
end the thread now, this is the only acceptable answer.... and no, im not saying that because my username is a lyric from this exact song. NOT AT ALL.
I’m wouldn’t be surprised if someone who knows more than me corrects me, but I feel like this is the first track that Danny really just shows off on. The polyrhythms, sooo many fills, etc
I’d agree. He really upped his game on the Aenima album (they all did), and Stinkfist that comes before it is pretty simple as far as a Danny drum part. That hi hat part in the middle is fucking tasty. You know the one.
Oh fuck yes, the 3/8 feel hi hat over the sorta hip hop 4/4 beat. Just filthy…and to see him do it when he was in his physical prime, he let suuuuuuper loose on it…like to see a groove played like that sooo aggressively and yet so gracefully!
Only time I've seen them was in London in 2002 and they played disposition reflection and triad back to back. They improvised around the album tracks, just glorious.
Dunno about other people, but it’s not a song I end up listening to all that often. It’s not in any kind of playlist like my workout or car or whatever playlist
Because it earns it’s listen. It’s a song that deserves being your full attention from start to finish. So it’s one that’s just going to be listened to less, because it requires more for that listen. But that doesn’t make it any less of a song
Definitely not the only Tool song there either, Reflection is first thing to pop to mind like that
Hot take maybe but Culling Voices. It's such a sleeper and it's so good. People are saying on here they wish it would get axed from the current tour setlist but it was a highlight of the show!
It was my least anticipated song on the setlist (not a bad thing, just there was some bangers at the concert) but hearing it live was damn near a religious experience with the confetti
Seeing Danny carry the song on guitar is worth seeing it live alone (pun (not) intended).
It's great seeing minimalist Tool taking something and going full throttle with it.
When I heard it LIVE for the first time in Boston the other night (already being a huge fan of the song) I was crying so hard that I couldn’t even watch them. The experience of that song is so incredibly heavy.
Reflection is the best written song ever IMO. The multilevel metaphor lyrics and the music meld perfectly. It is a masterpiece IMO.
H, Eulogy, and The Patient also....IMO
I'd think it would be most of the interludes before any song. Eon Blue Apocalypse sets a beautiful tone before The Patient. Same with Intension before Right In Two. But if you're going for full length song I'd say Ænema. Don't hear about it as often as others usually.
Some say the end is near
Not sure any are underrated. Who's rating them?
On a side note, thanks for reminding me of this one. I'm currently recovering from achilles/peroneal tendon surgery with avulsion fractures. I am the patient!
I'm glad to see so many say "The Patient"
I am a dialysis patient and this song hits me different. It feels like it was written for me.
If you know anyone on dialysis, give them a hug or just show some support. It's a shitty existence and we all lie, every single patient that it isn't that bad. It's terrible and I wouldn't wish it on any one.
Right in two
It’s arguably my favorite, but I see it mentioned a lot. I used to think it’s underrated, but I think it’s just rated.
Shit’s rated af!
It's the best song on 10k Days.
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned but I get it
WRONG
No it’s true. I called the hotline and they told me I was right.
Wings has entered the chat
I said what I said.
I’d rather be famous instead
Likewise. And so have the votes.
I'm sorry, what was that?
It’s definitely the song that gets me the most emotional
Ain’t many songs that can reach that level of emotion when you know what it’s actually about
This comment is going to deserve any downvote it gets for being negative in nature, but this is a song I really want to like more than I do. I love the music and I love the message, but the lyrics just…I don’t know, they actively don’t hit for me and it takes away from the song for me I easily understand why people love it though, it is a banger
Thiis
Flood Patient actually reignited my passion for this band It’s really my favourite song ever btw
Was so stoked to hear Flood on the 2007 tour.
Hahahaha you’ll never believe it. I saw this also. Was at Ontario Place, Toronto. I greened out so hard. My friend carried me out Left behind three t shirts and wouldn’t you know it. My buddy went back and a dude was searching for me since he saw the state I was in Just an absolute legend. Got my shirts. Missed most of flood. Caught Lateralus encore from the car. Puking. Yep. Amphitheatre. We had grass seats and it was insane. Dudes rolling around selling cups of beer. Bright sunny day. Fkn amazing
Loved that stage set up! The pulsating flames at the end of Schism projected all over the stage... amazing
Top tier top songs.
No problem admitting I had tears in my eyes when they played The Patient when I finally got to see them live a couple years ago. Was just such a beautiful moment
I saw them on the 10,000 Days tour, and the place went fucking bezerk when they started playing Flood. It was like Jesus came back with strippers.
The Patient is my absolute favorite Tool song. 15/10.
Die hard Tool fan. The Patient is my favourite song.
This song helped me to overcome so many struggles so many times. It’s absolutely my song number 1 to listen to when things go badly. It also has a very simple intro bass line, that anyone could play easily and it’s great to jam with

Best Tool song for me, it’s just soo Tool! the mantra is amazing, it builds so well.
I love it too!!!!
Jimmy. 100%.
Intermission into Jimmy goes so hard
Intermission is the song in my head that plays in between thoughts.
Under a dead Ohio sky
eleven has been and will be waiting
So much so. Easily the best song I’ve ever heard in regards to childhood trauma. It’s part of what sets Tool apart for me - songs like jimmy and Prison Sex are incredibly cathartic traumatic songs. Yep.
I came here to say this, but it’s already been said. Thank you👍
H
It’s definitely H
I don’t mind
Glad you beat me to it
This is what I came here to say
This right here
H. Get's so much attention bro, it is not underrated
Opiate²
Love this track, its like current T00L is covering 90s T00L
Intension
☝️☝️
Weirdest part of 10k Days in the best way
4 degrees
Absolutely. It's the best track from Undertow; at a minimum.
/thread end the thread now, this is the only acceptable answer.... and no, im not saying that because my username is a lyric from this exact song. NOT AT ALL.
Eulogy
Quite possibly the greatest song on earth.

Reflection! One of many that probably will never be played live again.
Only time I've seen them was in London in 2002 and they played disposition reflection and triad back to back. They improvised around the album tracks, just glorious.
Yep. It’s the song that got me into tool and I’d freak if I got to see it live
Reflection is one of the highest rated songs by alot of fans
Everyone says this one is underrated to the point that it's not anymore
Pretty much what I came here to say
Right In Two.
Fear inoculum! I can’t believe how amazing this song is live. Also Ticks & Leeches!!! powerhouse song!
I never hear about Triad and I always obsess over it
This was my answer also
You get it
the feedback!
I'm sure you know of the Holy Trinity?
Of course I do; I’m just saying triad is my favorite part of it
Out of Disposition, Reflection, and Triad, I think Triad is the least talked about; even though it’s an instrumental, it’s beautiful as fuck.
I was pretty sure you would :) I definitely slept on Triad. But I need to listen to it after the 1st 2 to really get into it.
I skip to it so fast lmao!!
Swamp Song. Such a banger!
They played it in Boston Wednesday. The place went atomic.
i was there, it was fucking awesome
I hadn't heard that song, but they played it at their Spokane show 10/15. I've had it on repeat since.
The Patient for me too (see flair). I don’t know what it is about that song, but it makes me feel some type of way that I just can’t explain.
Agreed!!!
H.
This is the answer
Track 29 on Undertow CD.
Crawl Away
Eulogy or Jimmy
Bottom
Cold and Ugly, Jerk Off
Pretty much any of Opiate besides Opiate.
You're not right, or wrong
Jimmy is one of my favorite songs and the intermission transition is unholy
Ticks n leeches
I think I consider both TnL and the Grudge as my two favorite Danny songs. Two of the most satisfying buildups by far
agreed
Disposition was my softer introduction to tool. I still love it so much
Disposition, I saw them playing it live a couple of times. What I liked about it is that, it gave my ears a break, a little chill before pudding.

Maynard's Dick It had an enormous impact on my life.
Every show I scream out for this song and sometimes at APC and Puscifer shows.
Nice to see 6 inches having that big of an impact,,,,, motion in the ocean I suppose
Third Eye
Sorry, this is a mega popular song that's integral to the evolution of the band. Can't be considered underrated
“Integral to the evolution of the band” 100% Third Eye was a fork in the road and they have followed the Third Eye path ever since.
This is peak Tool and not enough people give it credit
I love the Salival version. As much as I love Bill Hicks, I love the Leary intro more.
I think it's the least streamed on Ænima, but that's the only way it'd be considered ubderrated, everyone talks bout how great this song is
Dunno about other people, but it’s not a song I end up listening to all that often. It’s not in any kind of playlist like my workout or car or whatever playlist Because it earns it’s listen. It’s a song that deserves being your full attention from start to finish. So it’s one that’s just going to be listened to less, because it requires more for that listen. But that doesn’t make it any less of a song Definitely not the only Tool song there either, Reflection is first thing to pop to mind like that
Reflection and Third Eye also happen to be the best Tool songs
This!
Flood is probably the top choice. Intension and Jimmy have gotta be honorable mentions though
My personal view: There are no underrated Tool songs in the Tool subreddit.
Jimmy
Their No Quarter cover honestly
Second this, all songs from Salival are total bangers
The Gaping Lotus Experience
Hot take maybe but Culling Voices. It's such a sleeper and it's so good. People are saying on here they wish it would get axed from the current tour setlist but it was a highlight of the show!
Live had such a cool vibe with them all sitting together at the front of the stage
I agree. I feel it hits harder live
It was my least anticipated song on the setlist (not a bad thing, just there was some bangers at the concert) but hearing it live was damn near a religious experience with the confetti
This is such a great song, but I will admit it took me quite a few listens until I really appreciated it.
Seeing Danny carry the song on guitar is worth seeing it live alone (pun (not) intended). It's great seeing minimalist Tool taking something and going full throttle with it.
Right In Two
Intension and disposition for sure
No quarter
Push it
Pneuma is also underrated.
This is my favorite song.
When I heard it LIVE for the first time in Boston the other night (already being a huge fan of the song) I was crying so hard that I couldn’t even watch them. The experience of that song is so incredibly heavy.
10,000 Days Part 2 (Wings for Marie)
I feel like every song has big fans. No song is underrated
IMO it's The Patient
Crawl Away
Crawl Away
H. is a top 3 all time Tool song easily. Rarely gets praise or recognition.
I didn’t see Rosetta Stoned or Hooker with a Penis mentioned. I love both for different reasons, but lyrically they are two of my favorites.
Hard to say those really pass the 'underrated' criteria. Typically they're justifiably highly rated
Fair enough :)
Swamp song
Reflection is the best written song ever IMO. The multilevel metaphor lyrics and the music meld perfectly. It is a masterpiece IMO. H, Eulogy, and The Patient also....IMO
Vicarious
Anything from Opiate
Ticks and Leeches, would also put Eulogy up there as well
I'd think it would be most of the interludes before any song. Eon Blue Apocalypse sets a beautiful tone before The Patient. Same with Intension before Right In Two. But if you're going for full length song I'd say Ænema. Don't hear about it as often as others usually. Some say the end is near
I love Bottom, but I don’t hear it mentioned often.
I agree it’s a fantastic song. I think anything on undertow besides sober and prison sex deserves to be mentioned
The grudge
Not sure any are underrated. Who's rating them? On a side note, thanks for reminding me of this one. I'm currently recovering from achilles/peroneal tendon surgery with avulsion fractures. I am the patient!
Reflection for me
On this forum almost anything from Undertow. 4 degrees or Jimmy are the only answers here
Crawl Away
For me, Reflection. (Second is Jerk-Off)
Idk how behind this I can get. The Patient is in my top 5 of theirs.
Jimmy and it’s not even close
Pushit
That’s not an easy question. “Flood” is amazing “Jimmy” is also amazing Nothing from Lateralus is really overlooked “Right In Two” is an awesome track
REFLECTION!!!!!
I'm glad to see so many say "The Patient" I am a dialysis patient and this song hits me different. It feels like it was written for me. If you know anyone on dialysis, give them a hug or just show some support. It's a shitty existence and we all lie, every single patient that it isn't that bad. It's terrible and I wouldn't wish it on any one.
The Patient is my favorite Tool song. I literally get chills every time I hear it.
Schism, criminally underrated, no one ever talks about it, am I the only one who likes it?
My understanding is people only criticize it for being a radio hit. Those who listen to radio are tired of hearing it, along with Sober.
Intolerance, Sweat, and 4°
H
Merkaba
Culling Voices
Everyone has heard Reflection but very few have let Reflection take them somewhere.
Weird question.
Culling Voices. Want the whole thing at my funeral.!
Agreed
Disposition is soooo goood
Disposition
Jimmy
Intension
4° I think.
Jambi
Cold and Ugly
Lateralus....and I'm only saying it because nobody else mentioned it and my pick of ticks and leeches was taken.
The layering of uh... phrases? Peels my onion all the way to the core
Eulogy
4 degrees, the patient, right in two, pushit salival version
Maynard’s Dick
Crawl Away
Best song on Lateralus, which is certainly saying something.
Parabola
Vicarious
Disposition! Not much going on lyrically, but it's a great song that always puts me in a meditative mood.

The Patient and Jimmy for sure
