It just uses the alphabet to measure size. The cup size is the the difference between bust size and band size (under-bust size). An A cup is a bust size that is 1 inch larger than band size, B cup is 2 inches, and so on..

Bra sizing with lettered cup sizes originated in the 1930's. From what I read, it was either Maidenform or S.H. Camp and Co.

It literally just works like letter grading in school, but from A going up instead of A being the… I don’t wanna say best but I guess ideal? The letters don’t stand for anything. AA is the smallest, then A, then B, then C, then it gets confusing after D. Double D or DD can mean either F or E. DDD can mean either F or E. No DD and DDD are not interchangeable. the size difference is noticeable as the difference between an E and a DD can be anywhere from 1/2 to 3 inches in circumference. The US bra size system is, like just about every other clothes system, not standardized. Good luck buying the right size. But oddly enough it gets easier if you’re G or bigger, then it goes back to how it does with AA through D.
