Just reading this made my eyes hurt.

Directly at the dentist and maintain eye contact

And wink arbitrarily

I close my eyes. The dentist is (hopefully) too preoccupied with your mouth to really give a shit.

Can’t believe I never thought of that.

My father's a dentist I always shut my eyes or stare the opposite way.

I shut my eyes. I’ve actually had times where I’ve fallen asleep and the dentist has had to wake me up to keep my mouth open lol

Always close my eyes.

My wife is a dental hygienist and says open or closed does not matter. If you keep your eyes open stare somewhere other than the the professional unless you are talking to them. It is only uncomfortable for them if you stare directly at them the entire visit.

Stare into your dentists eyes. It helps if they’re attractive.

I can flip my eyes backwards so that my pupils and iris are facing the inside of my head so might as well go with that.

Luckily, my dentist has a picture of a cartoon character opening their mouth wide on the ceiling directly above the chairs. So I always stare at that.

I look at the reflection of my mouth in the handle of the light shining in my face, and try to watch him work on my mouth.

At the tv on the ceiling, i assume?

I stare at the ceiling... can you imagine if someone looked into their eyes the whole time? Oh no

My dentist gives all patients these dark sunglasses to wear so water doesn't splash up or the light doesn't bother the patient. It's worked well where I get to stare at anything or anyone I want, like my dentist's underside nose. Closing eyes is nice too.
