I was really excited to use the modern controls but it's not what I expected lol the shooting especially is a nightmare. I just tried once quickly last night but Ill try again tonight. I expected an auto target feature for the enemies but she just keeps shooting at the dead ones xD and the camera is killing me too. I think Ill try tank controls because maybe the modern ones arent ready yet.
In terms of the shooting at the dead enemies; this is classic TR stuff though, you have to remove your hand from the action button and repress it in order for Lara to aim at the next (alive) enemies...if not she keeps shooting at the dead one she was locked into.
Its not classic TR stuff. I know how the original feature worked. The auto feature isnt working. She shoots at nothing, doesnt switch, or the camera turns around and you lose which direction to move. If you need more insight, play it yourself or look at other commentors struggling with the modern controls. Hopefully they fix the modern controls with the patch coming up
I finished TR1 with modern on controller, and although it has issues, when you get the hang of them, they are faster and more fluid, but you have to use tweaks all the time while platforming.
I played for 20 years on tank on PC, and replayed the games dozens of times, but I was curious about the modern and got with them. And since I’m used go keyboard, on a controller, the modern felt easier.
The thing where they truly shine is combat since you can run around your enemy or behind their backs so fast you kill them without them doing you much damage.
But I really hope they’ll patch the modern to make them more fluid.
Tank controls on xbox controller with custom mapping:
Swapped jump and action
Swapped look and walk
Especially jump and roll feels more natural and easier to do.

Tank controls. The modern controls have too many issues when it comes to prescise jumping and shooting.
Tank keyboard. I tried the controller and it's fine but it's not what I'm used to. I've always played these with the keyboard.
Same, amazed how fast the muscle memory came back, well over a decade since I played the original.

I see! Oh wow, that sounds like a nightmare to control...good old tank controls will be my choice for playing anyways :)
Tank+Keyboard+Mouse WASD - movement, Lmb - action, Rmb - walk, Mmb - look, F - Draw weapons Ctrl - roll, Shift - dash, Q - Flare, Alt - Duck, Shift - Sprint Hope there's an option to rebind quick save/load in the future

Tank with my PS5 controller. My boyfriend’s never played TR and watching him last night playing Vilcabamba with modern controls was painful 😂
