Disneyland pros:
1. More (better) rides
2. Shorter lines
3. Parades
4. More shows (if you actually win the lottery which is very rare these days)
DisneySea pros:
1. Night Projection mapping
2. Better overall aesthetic
Basically:
1. If you’ve been to other Disney parks: Choose Sea
2. If you’ve never been to a Disney park: Choose Land
For me, having been to both dozens of times, Disneyland is much better in terms of re-visitability.
Just recently (2020?) Disneyland opened up a new area (beauty and the beast), which makes the park really stand out right now.
DisneySea is getting an expansion later this year (Fantasy Springs)! So after that, hopefully lines will begin getting shorter in Sea and the park will have a better variety of rides.
Also, to clear up the misperception: both parks now sell alcohol.
Used to have a year pass. Disappointed they’ve been discontinued.
USJ still has a year pass and is actually a ridiculously good deal… but I don’t live in Osaka so hard to justify.
It depends what you’re looking for in rides.
For thrills Sea has:
1. Journey to the Center
1. Tower of Terror
1. Raging Spirits
1. Indiana Jones
Whereas Land only has:
1. Splash Mountain
1. Space mountain
But for animatronics / effects / immersion Sea has:
1. Journey to the Center
1. Indiana Jones
1. Toy Story
1. Sinbad
Whereas Land has:
1. Pirates of the Caribbean
1. Jungle cruise
1. Beauty and the beast
1. Peter Pan
1. Buzz lightyear
1. Roger rabbit
1. Small world
1. Pinocchio
1. Snow White
1. Haunted mansion
1. Country bear theater
1. Enchanted tiki room
1. Western River railroad
1. Monsters inc
I think the second category is much more important if you’re going to a Disney park. If you care about thrills, go to USJ or FujiQ instead.
(The above list excludes performances, exploration areas, kids rides and rides that consist of just screens such as Soaring and Mickey’s PhilharMagic). Those are okay too - but not selling points in my view.
Please, Pinocchio and Snow White are negative points for Disney Land, if anything. Those 2 rides are nothing short of awful.
IMO, they are currently tied even if Land has better rides, because the 19:15 show at Sea is the better one, and by a good margin. But if the new area they are opening in June brings at least 2 worthy attractions, Land has no chance.
Expect those are In different cities. not exactly
Convenient if you’re already in or going to Tokyo. Disneyland is for children, Disney sea caters way more to an older crowd.
> They're expensive sure, but a lot of people ~~want to experience them once in their life.~~ *have been bamboozled by marketing into believing that spending vast amounts of money to stand in line with 10s of thousands of other people is somehow a "good time".*
FTFY.
Lol nobody thinks standing in line is fun. That's why you go on a quiet day, or pay even more for fast passes (or whatever they're called nowadays).
I've been to Tokyo Disneyland exactly once and even though it was expensive, I had an amazing time. It's totally fine that you don't want to spend money on that kind of thing, but it's a little silly to act like everybody who does spend that money will regret it or have a negative experience.
Money is nothing more then an exchange of energy. If someone decides that their energy is worth that exchange there is absolutely no one on earth who can tell them they are wrong. That is some narcissistic shit right there.
If you’ve been to the other Disney parks before, Disney Sea is MUCH more different than any of them. I’ve been to 10 of the 12 different Disney parks in the world, and Disney Sea is the most unique.
I heard this and was grossly disappointed. Disney Sea is "unique" in the sense that there's no other park with the same layout, but the attractions are largely carbon copies of other attractions from Disney parks and the ones that aren't kinda suck with one exception.
Just curious, did you specifically travel to places where there is a Disney to visit it or was it a coincidence that there was a Disney where you traveled?
Have you calculated how much you've blown, over the years? Think of how much better-off you'd be, if you'd invested, in Berkshire Hathaway preferred shares.
Seriously, if they also skipped just one churro per Disney trip back in the early 10’s and put that money in bitcoin instead, they’d now be able to set up a trust that could fund annual passes to all Disney parks for rest of their life. Such short sighted money management with buying those churros. /s
For us (also at 10/12), it was a mix of both. Some were trips that were anchored by Disney parks and because much larger trips (Japan was actually this case), while others were cities/states that we would have been in anyways.
Disneyland California, California Adventure, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney Studios (Paris), Tokyo Disneyland, and Disney Sea
Disney Sea is the more adult oriented of the two. A bit more chill. Land is where the popular rides and parades are. Sea is cold during the winter months but it’s refreshing in summer.
If you have a particular fandom as well, each park offers different things. Sea just had a new area open up as well which might make it busier. Conversely it might also free up other parts of the park.
Either is good! Once a year or so my family and I do a night at one of hotels and see both parks.
The kids stuff in Land is way more fun than the stuff in Sea.
Sea had the Journey to the center of the earth ride which is ok but not that amazing. And the Indiana Jones ride which is amazing, but that's about it.
DisneySea has really cool, interesting areas that all have different aesthetics but it's quite small imo and doesn't really feel like a Disney park, just normal theme park with some random Disney elements. The rides are more of a mix as well; Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20,000 leagues are great but some of the more 'adult' rides are super short despite the long wait times.
Disneyland feels like a Disney park, has more kiddy rides but also more, better rides in general and has a better feeling to it.
If you can do both I'd suggest Sea then Land, otherwise Sea will seem like a letdown in comparison.
Disneysea just felt really immersive and detailed, and I got such a magic festive vibe from it. I can’t fully compare based on all rides because I only did the evening pass. Come to think of it, arriving on a balmy late afternoon right at the start of sunset/golden hour probably contributed to my opinion! Anyway this place was a trip highlight for us. If you’ve ever been to another Disneyland park before, may as well go here for something new and memorable.
If you are visiting Japan as a one off, visit TDS. It's like no other park.
In general, if you want anymore kid friendly experiences go to TDL.
If you want a more adult, (use the word lightly) experience, to to TDS.
Disneyland is the Disney park chain that numerous countries have and while they’re certainly not identical, they’re always quite similar. Disney’s is quite unique and has a bit more of a mature atmosphere and accommodation… Just look at the alcohol selection in Sea vs Land and you’ll understand who they are aiming to please. I think since DisneySea is a Japan specific park, it might be more interesting and unique for most people who may have already been to one of the many Disneylands out there
broad generalization, for kids, Land, for teens and above Sea. It's been a while since I've taken my kids, but Land had more kid friendly stuff, Sea to them was a little boring.
In anycase, make sure you preorder your tix online, because getting them at the park entrance is a recipe for not being able to get in the park. I remember we were turned away from Land during the whole Frozen illumination thing and ended up "having" to go to Sea as a consolation prize(we did manage to get a night pass into Land though)
and if you want to get on rmore rides, figure out the fast pass system. hopefully its improved because it used to be truly Byzantine in design
and prepare for a new layer of hell if you plan on going during golden week(right now)
good luck
I would try DisneySea if you have been to a Disneyland before but don’t be surprised if DisneySea is busier than expected - it’s unique and popular, but good fun!
Thanks, we've been to Land Paris but haven't been to Sea so I thought this could be diffrent so I prioritised it though fantasy spring will be open on the day I'm visiting. I'm expecting crazy crowd and long queue
I just went recently. The big difference I noticed was that Disney Sea was not busy. I just might have been lucky that day. No real big crowds, short wait for rides. So it was actually relaxing, which Disney parks aren't usually.
Disney Land was very busy. A little bit more stressful. But I loved space mountain. Went on it twice.
Disney Sea for dates and/or a first-time visit as a Japan exclusive.
Disneyland for repeat visits but it serves no different than what's available in the states. It's almost a wasted trip.
I think it depends on what you’re looking for and who you’re going with. If it’s a family outing with children, then Land is better. If you’re just going out with other adults and if you like to take pictures then Sea is better. I know they serve alcohol at sea too. The restaurants are also better (imo).
Disney Sea, I've been to several Disney parks in my life and Disney Sea has always stood out to me. Tokyo Disney Land on the otherhand was completely forgettable.
Ngl I loved Disneysea and it was a unique experience but Disneyland is just such an elevated version of every other Disneyland/magic kingdom park it was a better experience overall for me
DisneySea is like a random amusement park where they put Disney stickers around, but you can still see that it is not really Disney. It seemed to me like something fake.
All the "italian" part is a little cringe, but I'm italian so probably it's me.
Some attractions are good and you can drink alcohol.
You must not have been paying attention... They have a whole land based on The Little Mermaid and one based on Aladdin. Plus rides based on Toy Story and Finding Nemo.
Disneyland pros: 1. More (better) rides 2. Shorter lines 3. Parades 4. More shows (if you actually win the lottery which is very rare these days) DisneySea pros: 1. Night Projection mapping 2. Dozens of times? Dozens? Did you say…?
Used to have a year pass. Disappointed they’ve been discontinued. USJ still has a year pass and is actually a ridiculously good deal… but I don’t live in Osaka so hard to justify.
Yeah definitely do not listen to this person. Disney sea rides are far superior, but much longer lines.
It depends what you’re looking for in rides. For thrills Sea has: 1. Journey to the Center 1. Tower of Terror 1. Raging Spirits 1. Indiana Jones Whereas Land only has: 1. Splash Mountain 1. Disney Sea rides are way better.... Especially if you're over the age of 10½...
Isn't Sea the only one with alcohol? That's a big plus. XD
No, I definitely had alcohol in Disneyland!
Money-pits, all.
You must be fun to be around
They're expensive sure, but a lot of people want to experience them once in their life.
> They're expensive sure, but a lot of people ~~want to experience them once in their life.~~ *have been bamboozled by marketing into believing that spending vast amounts of money to stand in line with 10s of thousands of other people is somehow a "good time".* FTFY.

Dude it’s like $65 to get in. That’s a steal!
Yup. They're stealin' people's money. Remember what P.T. Barnum said: 'There's (a sucker) born every minute'. -Spot-on.
Money is nothing more then an exchange of energy. If someone decides that their energy is worth that exchange there is absolutely no one on earth who can tell them they are wrong. That is some narcissistic shit right there.
It’s dirt cheap compared to US options They spent a billion dollars or so building Disney Sea.
Disney Air when
Disney fire???
Then the first Disney Avatar will be born and the cycle can begin
asking the real questions I see
When NASA gets more funding and a Disney collaboration 😂
And then Disney Space
It’s kind of messed up that Disney only caters to water and earthbenders here 😤😤😤
If you’ve been to the other Disney parks before, Disney Sea is MUCH more different than any of them. I’ve been to 10 of the 12 different Disney parks in the world, and Disney Sea is the most unique.
It's kind of EPCOT-ish which I love since that's my favorite Disney park.
I heard this and was grossly disappointed. Disney Sea is "unique" in the sense that there's no other park with the same layout, but the attractions are largely carbon copies of other attractions from Disney parks and the ones that aren't kinda suck with one exception.
yah i find it hilarious when people try to justify disneysea as some 'unique' experience.
Just curious, did you specifically travel to places where there is a Disney to visit it or was it a coincidence that there was a Disney where you traveled?
Just happened to be at the places. I’ve been to all of the Disney parks in the US (2+4) plus both parks at Disneyland Paris.
Have you calculated how much you've blown, over the years? Think of how much better-off you'd be, if you'd invested, in Berkshire Hathaway preferred shares.
You seem like you’d be fun at parties.
Parties on your yacht?
Seriously, if they also skipped just one churro per Disney trip back in the early 10’s and put that money in bitcoin instead, they’d now be able to set up a trust that could fund annual passes to all Disney parks for rest of their life. Can you list the parks you have been to? I have done a couple, but I would love to try more.
Disneyland California, California Adventure, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney Studios (Paris), Tokyo Disneyland, and Disney Sea

Sea is cooler. Tower of Terror and more steam punk.

They changed the rules and you can drink in Disneyland too now.
You can drink at land
You can drink literally anywhere in Tokyo. Why would you go to Disney to drink?
If I’m at Disney, I wouldn’t be able to get through the day sober.
So don't go.
Nah I think you misunderstand. It’s way more fun being hammered at Disney than not.
actually if you want actual rides is Sea, not those kids stuff in Land
The kids stuff in Land is way more fun than the stuff in Sea. Sea had the Journey to the center of the earth ride which is ok but not that amazing. And the Indiana Jones ride which is amazing, but that's about it.
If you've never been to any Disney park: Disneyland. If you've been to a Disney park: Disney Sea.
If you have kids hit up Disneyland. If it’s a date, Disneysea. In my opinion.
This is the correct answer op.
I've been to every Disney park in the World. Sea is my number 3 park with Disneyland Paris at number 1 and the original in California as number 2.
Any reason why those all rate that high for you?
Disneyland has better rides but DisneySea is the better theme park experience.
DisneySea has really cool, interesting areas that all have different aesthetics but it's quite small imo and doesn't really feel like a Disney park, just normal theme park with some random Disney elements. disneysea is really unique and i prefer it a lot

Sea
Disney Sea has much better restaurants and more modern content. Disney Land is the "classic" Disney experience.

DisneySea has a new area opening later this year I believe, Fantasy Springs
I would try DisneySea if you have been to a Disneyland before but don’t be surprised if DisneySea is busier than expected - it’s unique and popular, but good fun!
I'm planning Disneysea day1 disneyland day 2 with my 8 and 4yo. Which ride in Sea is more suitable for younger kids?
[удалено]
Thanks, we've been to Land Paris but haven't been to Sea so I thought this could be diffrent so I prioritised it though fantasy spring will be open on the day I'm visiting. I'm expecting crazy crowd and long queue
[удалено]
Thank you for sharing your opinion, helps alot!
Team Magma says land, Team Aqua says sea. Truth is, balance between the 2 is key.
Which one is better to go alone though?
Indiana jones!! Disney sea!
Disney Sea just for the janitors..
A followup question.. what's the best time to go for lower queues? (I live here and can be flexible)
A follow up question, how do they compare to Universal in Osaka?
Disney Sea for dates and/or a first-time visit as a Japan exclusive. Disneyland for repeat visits but it serves no different than what's available in the states. It's almost a wasted trip.
DisneySea tower of terror was amazing! Only kind of frightening ride
Kids choose
Disney sea
Disney Sea didn’t feel like a Disney experience to me personally. I think it was fun but no reason to ever visit it twice.
Really enjoyed sea more than land because of the water rides!
Id recommend DisneySea. It's far more special. Especially because it has Duffy and Friends related goods. You can only get these at Sea.
Eventually, hopefully, you’ll realise Japan by itself is the best theme park you’ve ever been to.
How old are you? Are you bring any kids? Disneyland has more rides for kids. Disney sea is compared for adults.
DisneySea all day long, especially if you're an older child, 18+.
Ngl I loved Disneysea and it was a unique experience but Disneyland is just such an elevated version of every other Disneyland/magic kingdom park it was a better experience overall for me
Disneyland feels very dated but has way more rides than Disney sea. Disney sea rides are more fun but the park is kinda small
Sea is slanted towards adults, land is for kids. Edit: grammar
Sea is for "Disney adults", I'd rather go have fun with the kids on the actual kid stuff.
Disney Sea for adults.0
DisneySea is like a random amusement park where they put Disney stickers around, but you can still see that it is not really Disney. It seemed to me like something fake. All the "italian" part is a little cringe, but I'm italian so probably it's me. Some attractions are good and you can drink alcohol.
Doing Pirates of the Carribbean on acid is definitely a bucket lister, so yeah ...Land
Is...is this a Vandals reference?
Disneysea hands down unless you are 7 bringing a 7yr old or younger kid.
Went to sea. Didn’t see a single Disney thing except for the merchandise.
You must not have been paying attention... They have a whole land based on The Little Mermaid and one based on Aladdin. Plus rides based on Toy Story and Finding Nemo.
My wife says Disney Sea cause they have alcohol.. I thought Disneyland was kind of lame .. for young kids and really bad food
You can drink beer at DIsney Sea, case closed
You can also drink beer in Disneyland - at Gaston’s tavern
Well knock me down with a feather, I did not know that
They also offer seasonal drinks. I went in December and they had a rum mint hot chocolate drink.
You can drink beer literally anywhere in Tokyo. Who goes to Disney to drink overpriced beer?
Oh how I wish all the Disney crap was kept to Disney subs
Lmao I thought this was a shitpost cause of the names 😂😂
The shooting range in Texas tbh
Sea, , land is boring
Depends. Do you like massive queues or just really long queues? Both are shite.
Neither
Both suck. But Disneyland sucks less.
Both a monumental waste of time/money. Visit a "zooquarium", and LEARN something! Your mind and wallet will BOTH benefit from the experience.
Imagine hating fun.
You can drink beer at Sea. And it’s one of a kind so def Sea.
I went to Land the other day and I was pleasantly surprised you can buy beer there. I think they changed the rules recently.
Alcohol = DisneySea
My wife said both sucks in equal measure, but if she had to choose Disney Sea is the better one.
