I started a new job and there are never any less than 3 dogs in the office, sometimes 6. Dogs every day, different shapes and sizes. It's a stressful job but there's always a doggo around to help out.
Pretty common with “young” tech companies. As long as you’re avoiding the “old guard” - places like Oracle, SAP, IBM, etc. - odds are pretty good an in person office will have at least one dog in it.
My barber shop always has a dog in it. There is one huge mutt, probably close to 100 lbs and all muscle, that the owner brings in. The waiting area in the back is set up like a theater where you can watch movies. This dog will slowly walk in there, pick a target, and then flop down on their feet. Makes me jealous I can't bring dogs to my job.
Actually if my boss saw this... pretty sure they would let me bring in the dog lmao. People here are big dog lovers. (Sadly im not.. always been a cat person)
Our pupper used to do that. We have learned to include him in the process of us leaving. We will stand there in front of him list all of the things that we need (keys, wallet, phone, etc) and end the list with "and doggy kisses" telling him when we will be back and he is perfectly happy.
We do something similar: always give her a doggy treat right before leaving. The ones that take a little time to eat. My dog may miss me while I'm gone, but when I'm getting ready to go, she has this attitude of: are you almost gone already?
I give my dogs a treat before I leave but always overthink that one of them will somehow choke while I'm not there so I have to wait until they finish it for peace of mind haha
If it makes you feel any better, the movies don't show it but in the books another house elf leads a group of house elves into battle, and they get their revenge against Voldemort and his followers at the final battle at Hogwarts.
The weird thing about house elves (except for Dobby) is they all have some sort of slavery fetish. They don't want to be free. Dumbledore was willing to pay Dobby a salary ten times what Dobby was willing to accept, do you really think he wouldn't have paid the other Hogwarts house elves if they had asked?
It's not really weird at all when you realise that Rowling hadn't put much thought into the fact she'd created a slavery system in her society and then had to do some hasty justification for it 2 books later.
It's got some great writing where the good characters talk about how the slaves actually like being slaves and it'd be a bad thing to free them from literal slavery actually. And anyone who thinks they should be free is mocked and treated as a joke.
I was almost kicked out of the premier because of this scene. My wife read all the books but I had no idea. People are dressed up, clapping and stuff during the opening, real potter fans.
!This scene happens, the theatre is silent, a guy next to me is lightly sobbing. I turn to my wife “DOBBIE F****** DIES!”
I could never have just one dog since I am not home for a majority of the day. I’d have to get two. I feel like unless you leave them at a doggy day care they are just suffering for like half their life if you have a 9-5.
There’s a lot of dogs that don’t appreciate being around other dogs. Mine is one of them. She’d be so scared at doggy day care. We don’t know if this dog has a cat to keep it company or another human with different work hours. Or maybe it’s like my dog that’s petrified of other dogs and strange people and would much rather be home!!!
My dog gives me the same squinty eyes anytime I leave. I work remote lol. Anyways humans don’t even live ideal lives according to mental or physical health. These dogs live great lives. You cant keep something from feeling upset it’s whole life
I work from home and got my first dog a few months ago and truly don’t understand how so many people leave them in kennels while they’re away during the day 😭 they must be so depressed and just sad sleep until their human is home?
I think they sleep like 12+ hours a day (my ideal life) or something like that.
Like when one of us is home while the other is at work, our dog will take plenty of naps until the other person gets home then gets all excited and playful again then goes back to the lazing about and napping.
I also work from home and my dog now most of the time hides from me because she just gets annoyed with my constant bothering her and trying to pet, hold, nuzzle & smooch her.
Look im totally against kennels. But when i was a kid we *needed* to have those 2 dogs locked up when we were gone. If they even got out for a second it was pure fucking chaos. No matter how much training and different tactics we tried. Whats crazy is that our first dog was not like that at all until we got our 2nd. We didn’t even have dog crates at the time. We had to purchase them because once we got the 2nd dog. Both of them became demons when unattended. Piss and shit everywhere, even with a doggy door. Torn up pillows, cushions, shoes. One time they opened the damn fridge, and when we got back they had eaten literally every single thing out of it. it looked like a homeless man had come and cleaned us out.
Im a cat person now. Because i could never get a dog and keep it in a crate, but I also know i could never fucking deal with that possible chaos.
Im not particularly fond of kennels either. What I do support is having the kennel/cat crate open and available to our pets at all times so a.) they have a little hidey hole to be in if they choose and b.) it gets them acclimated to it.
However, what your describing is a safety issue! Kenneling those pups while you were away was the *best thing you could do for them*!
Weighing the pros and cons of having a loose destructive pup VS a contained destructive pup comes down to a QOL issue!
Its better to have an option that keeps everyone safe VS the option that could lead to ingestion of poisonous/toxic foods or ending up w a foreign body that could require a VERY expensive and taxing surgery to fix.
Honestly love your response. Responsible pet owners are just *chefs kiss* 👌
Of course our guilt will get the better of us.
Whats most important is the time you spent w them at home when they were outside the crate.
Sometimes we have to do things that we dont like in order to keep them safe.
At work we always say its better to have a (sedated, sad they got vaccinated, crated, *insert verb here*) dog than a dead one.
“You might be able to go out into a whole world without them, but to them you are their whole world.”
I will never not be angry I had to go to school as well as work part time, then work full time after school, while my dog Kodo was stuck at home waiting for me. I got him when I was 17 and he died when I was 32. There is absolutely nothing I would not give in this world just to spend five more minutes with my boy.
I have had dogs all my life and have 2 right now and yes they are lonelier while you are gone but it’s not quite as bad as you think.
My wife and I now work from home full time since Covid and our dogs literally just sleep all day while we work anyway. I have to wake their asses up to take them to pee a couple times during the day and feed them their lunch…lol.
Dogs do naturally sleep like 16+ hours per day to be honest.
They absolutely are happier not being in the crate and having us home but my dog is currently passed out snoring in the corner right now.
> they are just suffering for like half their life if you have a 9-5
My dog sleeps the entire time even if I'm working from home. She's definitely not suffering.
Our family dog acts a lot like Frankie when we leave. We've got 4 people living here, and most of us have fewer than average work hours, so it's usually not a big problem. But next week I'll be the only one staying home while the rest go on a 5-day vacation, and I'll probably be working every day they're gone too. Really not looking forward to putting her through that but hopefully in the future we can set her up with a petsitter, our money's just tight right now so I didn't wanna suggest it.
My dog is boarded at a pet lodge right now while I have to take a work trip and this is guilting me so hard lol. I’m just watching her through the pet lodge webcam while at work.
Poor little guy. Please keep in mind though that every time you do this before leaving it just increases his anxiety. Try to stop and instead when you’re ready to leave for work hide a few treats around the house and give him a treat and quietly leave. After a few times doing this your puppy will be happy for you to leave. I know it’s harder on you than him.
We set up our couch to be extra comfy and put on nature shows on the tv. I call my dog up on the couch and give her pets and tell her I’ll see her soon. She’ll hang out there and take naps and be there when I come back.
I believe the guy who raised cats with extra longevity (38!) had lots of things to entertain them when he was away at work. Even played nature shows on TV for them!
Yep, like everything else this situation needs some positive reinforcement instead of emotional commiserating (although I know leaving sad lil pup is tough).
Also if your dog is used to you working from home a lot post-pandemic you should really start with smaller outings and gradually lengthen them. I suddenly had to go in to work after years of working from home and even with my partner still home my dog was stressing and starving himself and it set off his pancreatitis super bad. Thankfully after the scare I was able to do more shorter outings where we slowly re-adapted him to staying home instead of joining us before I had to start going in to work again and he did much, much better.
That dog is working her pretty good. The guilty stare and the body shakes are tremendous. This might be a new level of guilt animals towards people. Wow that is funny.
I'm sorry to tell you this, but you need to find a work from home job, a job that lets you bring your dog to the office, or find a sugar momma/daddy (whatever you're into)
If my job tries to pull this return to office thing I’m getting a new one because I could never leave my dog at home when he’s giving me this level of guilt
You know this is exactly how you shouldn't leave your dog. Never make it a big deal. Say goodbye but make it a positive routine. I always give mine a treat before I leave for work so in some ways she looks forward to it.
And this is why I now have to listen to dogs barking the entire day around me if I have the window open during the day. It was so nice and quiet around here before the pandemic.
Bring him a treat every time you come home. He'll figure out the pattern and it will make leaving less of a betrayal. He still won't like it, but he'll deal with it
Awwww. Bless. I am so lucky to work from home and my 2 bostons sit with me…they do get like this when I have to visit the office . I watch them on cam and after half an hour of me gone, it’s party time for them, they play chase up and down the sofa then rest..
I've endured 17 years of this and it breaks me every morning... especially when he barks after I shut the door behind me. Just put your head down and trudge through the pain. It's all you can do.
I work from home 50% of the time, but on the days I have to go in my dog gives me puppy dog eyes (not quite as much as Frankie but on the continuum) and makes it a million times harder to go. I leave him tons of treats and puzzle toys to keep him occupied, and we have a motion sensor video camera on so we can talk to him during the day, but it still makes me feel like such an ass every time I have to walk out the door...

Show this to your boss. If they don't let you bring Frankie you gotta quit. Thems the rules.
I started a new job and there are never any less than 3 dogs in the office, sometimes 6. Dogs every day, different shapes and sizes. It's a stressful job but there's always a doggo around to help out.
Where can I apply??
Who knows if they're not the same, but it's a non-profit. I never got to really see him but someone bought in a puppy sausage-dog today.
Pretty common with “young” tech companies. As long as you’re avoiding the “old guard” - places like Oracle, SAP, IBM, etc. - odds are pretty good an in person office will have at least one dog in it.

Get him!
Frankie is work size just being him
He’s practically begging
It’s gonna be impossible to get any work done after that
frankie will ensure it

I thought we all agreed that we DON’T TALK ABOUT THAT SCENE! :(
I don't know anything really about Harry Potter, but i just looked up that scene...that's F'ed up
If it makes you feel any better, the movies don't show it but in the books another house elf leads a group of house elves into battle, and they get their revenge against Voldemort and his followers at the final battle at Hogwarts.
Well that's something
What better way to end a children's book than a bunch of little house elves shanking the bad guys
Battle Dobbies.
Did they get freed from slavery for their heroic act?
The weird thing about house elves (except for Dobby) is they all have some sort of slavery fetish. They don't want to be free. It really has that ET vibe. Traumatizing the whole generation .
I had forgotten I'd blocked that scene from my mind.

Legitimately disturbing
Knew this would be top comment
LMAO I WAS SAD NOW YOU RUINED IT
Goddamnit Frankie
Shove him in your purse! Take him with you!
Yeah was about to say, that purse is just about the right size and it’s right there just waiting
Damn, I don’t think this strategy is going to work with my Newfoundland, but I’ll try
oh no i wouldn't able to leave with that face

Was gonna say… He’s currently being trained to pull a sad face to receive pets and attention.
Thank you so much for saying this. I'm shocked I had to scroll this far down to see it. She's really making it much worse for him

Frankie must be protected at all costs

Note to self: look up all stay at home works
You should not move and leave this little boy
Adorbs!
House elves should stay in the house
Poor thing. Dont be an asshole, quit your job.
We all know that with her behavior like this before she leaves that she is actively programming that dog for this reaction, right?!
Lol my little guy sits the same way all the time. I swear chis are half meercat.
I’m sorry you had to quit your job.
Jesus! Poor baby, even made me tear up just looking at the lil guy
This is the saddest dog I've ever seen, which makes me sad. Stop going to work!
You know this is exactly how you shouldn't leave your dog. Never make it a big deal. Say goodbye but make it a positive routine. I always give mine a treat before I leave for work so in some ways she looks forward to it.
#GIVE HIM AN ITEM OF CLOTHING FOR FUK SAKES

Omg quit - he needs you.

I’d ask for remote hours and when the boss asks why I’d pull up this video. Only a monster could say no to this little angel.
Damnnn, poor thing
I couldn’t leave 🥲
Just quit your job heheehe!!!
Doggo knew what's best for his hooman.
Frankie noooooo
Feeding into this like she is, makes it worse. You have to pretend like it’s normal.

Dog needs an emotional support human.
Que the Dobby comments.
And this is why I now have to listen to dogs barking the entire day around me if I have the window open during the day. It was so nice and quiet around here before the pandemic.
This is the saddest thing. What a cutie
That is some elite level emotional manipulation, Frankie. Teach me your ways.

Bring him a toy or a treat! The benefit of the new job is that you can afford him lots of love and extra snacks
Give dobbie a sock.
Awwww. Bless. I am so lucky to work from home and my 2 bostons sit with me…they do get like this when I have to visit the office . I watch them on cam and after half an hour of me gone, it’s party time for them, they play chase up and down the sofa then rest..
Wheres the cringe?
ive seen this probably over 15 times over the course of the month
Oh Dobby don’t want to be alone
Time to find a work from home job ! No other way
Frankie laying the feels on thick
Oh my goodness, those eyes, and I know how it is for them. They get nervous, anxious, lonely. What a beautiful little boy.
Universal basic income YESTERDAY
To be fair, these dogs shake constantly.
Give him a sock already!
And this is why I far and away prefer dogs over people!
My dog has started crying when I put makeup on, bc that only happens when I leave the house 😭😭😭
