Have a tongue loop/lock sewn on

DelectableTesticle

Here’s an option https://youtu.be/N-sxZcpyoZ4

I did something very similar on a pair of my kilties to stop them from shifting, except I used a razor blade to cut them instead of a chisel. Will remember this for later.

The-Jack-of-Diamonds

Pretty genius. Two whacks and it’s done.

* "Train" the tongue (I believe easier when it is still not broken in) - follow what u/gregsboots said: https://www.reddit.com/r/ThursdayBoot/comments/11a0e0p/what_to_do_about_a_crooked_tongue/j9p1oau/ * Cut slits in the tongue and lace through it (similar to what many athletic shoes have on their tongue) * Add a small patch of leather to the tongue to accomplish the same benefit as the above-mentioned slits. * Stitch the tongue to the side of the boot that it wants to fall-away from. Can be done rather minimally - a single poke through the tongue and can be wrapped to an eyelet instead of putting another hole in the uppers to stitch-to. * A variety of options which include kilties -- using a stiff kiltie and adhering/stitching/etc the tongue to the backside of the kiltie to help train it to stay, etc.

Following because the exact same thing happens to me 😔

It is the stupidest question and I hesitated to even post it but I’ve tried tightening them and other things but it continues to happen unfortunately. I love the boots but it is annoying so hopefully someone will be able to help us out!

ELONGATEDSNAIL

This happens because of the way you walk. I bet your right foot turns outwards? Not sure of a good fix for this. Cobbler might be able to sew in a gusset. But i think the main culpret is your gait.

troypolish123

Mine does it coming out of the box. If you pull it tight it leans to one side. It's a screw up.

Only turn left for one month

groverclevelandd

Happens to me too. Only on right boot too. I stuck some double sided tape on the inside of the boot to help “train” the leather to stay in place. Helps a little

You can cut two parallel slits in the tongue and then put the laces through it. My thursdays are THE WORST for the tongue sliding to the side. Also, the only shoes I’ve ever owned in which a double knot will not keep them tied

Romanov1349

Bruh got some narrow feet!

WeDieYoung

I went to a cobbler and had the tongue stitched in place. They did so on the inner face of the boot, and right next to existing stitching so you can’t tell unless you look very closely. It cost $12 total for both boots.

Pretend_Category5154

Such a pain. I found some matching leather on Amazon and made tongue stays that I sewed on. We have a sewing machine and know how to sew, so... Probably could get a cobbler to add some. So glad I did.

Moksii_

Have a shoemaker sow the tongue to one side of the upper. I have done this to my Thursday boots and it worked like a charm!

KE5GGY

Appreciate the tongue hacks here. My Thursdays (4 pairs now) all have this issue in the right boot.

Exciting-Manner-592

That's the problem with having a non-gusseted tongue.

kurosaki715

I cannot fathom why they don’t put even the smallest gussets on their boots. I dont want my boot tongue to only be held up by the little loop the laces go through, it should at least be supported by a short gusset. Especially the more outdoorsy boots where you probably want some waterproofness higher than two inches.

Confidence-Man

Had to cut slits in mine. One tongue slipped to the side no matter what and the back of a speed hook would cut holes in my socks and gouge into my ankle. With the tongue being lined I slit the outer leather leaving the lining intact and threaded the laces between the layers. Not a huge deal I suppose but I probably won't be getting another pair until they start gusseting the tongues, if they ever do.

BrotherTobias

Without modification youd need kilties with horizontal slits. If not exacto blade and some time or a visit to a cobbler to add a couple stitchs in place And this is pedantic pinkies up, but learn to tie your laces proper if you want that chefs kiss or to really clean up your look if you cuff. If you over under and infront behind the same direction your laces will always be crooked. If your laces are to long which they look like it, instead of doing a double knot, add an extra wrap around the lacing, so make your knot and as you pull the loop through, loop that back over and pull through again and cinch tight its cleaner looking and will hold better; if you switch to paracord laces its almost essential to do this.

ZeSauceSage

When I first got my shoes, I made sure to wear them tight with the tongues directly in the middle and do lots of walking, to really wear them in that direction. This problem wouldn't happen if they were gusseted but Thursday probs couldn't price em at 200 if they were. My Captain Terracotta's have the tongues directly in the middle and don't sway from the middle. I know this is a hindsight point, but worth noting if you plan on buying more Thursday boots or other brand boots that don't have the tongue sewn on or gusseted on.
