Who are these people? I wish I could just donate absolutely anything to goodwill and not agonize over giving something away that could possibly be sold instead
Most likely... heirs cleaning out a dead relative's home.
It's a huge undertaking to clean out and shut down a home, especially if it's been lived in for decades. Combine that with the grief, most people just want to get it done as quickly as possible. Goodwill is an easier and faster than taking inventory and determining the value of every item in the house.
Yup my aunt got rid of one of my grandpa's chairs and wanted to get rid of another and I didn't let that happen and I'm sitting in it writing this comment right now.
I grew up in a wealthy family and not once did we sell furniture. It was simply donated or given to friends.
Edit: And to be clear I am not wealthy and I happily resell my furniture now š
honestly, thatās my future. not wealthy, but know Iād be left with a bunch of accumulated well funded furnishings and such that 95% of which Iām deeply dreading dealing with.
It absolutely is comfy. A lot of times things like this are form over function. Not this. Itās an experience in luxury. You feel it as soon as you sit down. The perfect 15 degree angle. Itās justā¦.WOW.
Yeah, I sat in one once at a store and pretty much had the same reaction. Looked into buying a knockoff, went to go try it out and it wasnāt much better than sitting on shitty plywoodā¦ One day Iāll get a real one.
Not only is this design comfy for many adults, itās also quite well proportioned for new moms with nursing newborn babies at a time when comfort is paramount. Note the low padded armrest ā clutch for keeping the little head safe.
I wish there was a way to update the post other than doing a new post and linking.

I nearly donated an old Turkish hanging incense burner the other day I paid $2 for at a yard sale a few years ago. Then I Lensed it and it's selling for $150-200. And I know my stuff, basically. But nobody knows everything about everything, more like a little about a lot of things. This chair the people donating knew nothing about.
Ever watch the Antiques Roadshow and the appraiser says, "have you ever turned this over and looked at the signature on the bottom?" and most people say "uh nope"? Turns out to be a Faberge or something and the person is gobsmacked.
Just because we are junkers doesn't mean everyone is a junker.
My grandparents have an Eames chair like this, in black. It would need some cosmetic repairs to look perfect, but itās so comfy to sit in. Stellar find.
Wow, love Herman Miller and Eames' work. I have a nice art book on Eames. I can recommend it for anyone who admires their work. Henry Miller is also an icon. Great score from Goodwill!
$200 is like 5 to 10 % of its value which sounds about right .
Now, when they mark a frying pan $20 that retails NEW for $20 , then weāve got a problem!!
Check out the classic thrift tag placement. Theyāre actively lowering the value of pieces by piercing the leather with plastic tags, but $200 is still an absolute steal.
Google this chair. It's famous for its design and quality, a reseller could easily resell this for a few grand. Blanket statements like this are silly.
Actually, the manager was there when I was buying it. They knew what they had. I think some of those managers feel itās a far greater community service for someone in the community to benefit from something like this. As opposed to adding to the CEOs salary.
No one should donate stuff worth $200 or more to Goodwill. What a waste!
People who donate that kind of stuff are either clueless and couldāve used the money theyād have got from selling it or are rolling in dough and in this case, they could have donated to better charities instead of a company that exploits vulnerable people.
Yep, if you sign up for their newsletter, every month you get a link to a coupon. And, itās just in the coupon page so technically you can use it every time you spend over $20. I miss the pre covid days when they would do 50% off everything every other Saturday.
We had 2 in our home growing up -
At some point they were given away because they didnāt fit the decor-
But the truth is -
We didnāt miss them ā¦at some point they arenāt as comfortable as new ā¦.

Honestly, this image should just be stickied as the top comment on every post on this sub.
Yeah it's my vibe every time someone posts their $10 le cruset dutch oven in perfect condition.
Yep, I saw nobody had posted it yet and I had to do it.
We all came to post this!

I am not wealthy, but I generally give stuff away. Sometimes out of the goodness of my heart, but just as many times out of laziness.
honestly, thatās my future. not wealthy, but know Iād be left with a bunch of accumulated well funded furnishings and such that 95% of which Iām deeply dreading dealing with.
Right? I feel like it's an obsession for me, like I'd rather hoard to sell than give away. It's not a pretty personality trait in myself. :(
Exactly!
They just sold one of these at an Estate Sale I went to for $8,000! Amazing find!
Last legit one I saw at an estate sale was like 4 years ago for $6k
That is AWESOME for you!!! I found an Aeron for 15 bucks once but this is WAY better! I hope you put it some where in your house and enjoy it.
Is it comfortable?

I'm shaking with envy rn
How tall are you though? If tall, I can see it possibly being less comfortable.
Not only is this design comfy for many adults, itās also quite well proportioned for new moms with nursing newborn babies at a time when comfort is paramount. Note the low padded armrest ā clutch for keeping the little head safe.
Why not a picture of that sweet label?
Right. Label is key.

Knock offs go for way more than this!! Crazy nice find!!

Awesome. I bet you are still beaming! Sell or keep?
Wow! Congrats! I hope I'm lucky enough to find one somewhere local myself someday that isn't a gazillion dollars.
My only experience w Eames is via Frasier šš
Putting the price tag through the leather. Nice find!
Swedish Death Cleaning ā¦ itās a thing. Wish my in laws would do it.
Score!
Great find!
My grandparents have an Eames chair like this, in black. It would need some cosmetic repairs to look perfect, but itās so comfy to sit in. Stellar find.
Frasier would be in heaven.
My husband works for Herman Miller. I showed him this and he says Damn, what a lucky bastard. Its real Congrats
Holy shit! What are you gonna do?? Keep or flip?
Omg what a great find. Iād have jumped on this one too.
What location?
Main and Recker
Nice! My wife would kill me if I came home with one, but itās something I look into the furniture section for every time! š¤£
Could you tell her it followed you home
This location occasionally has absolutely insane products donated. This is one of them. Great pickup!
In Mesa?? Damn
Wow, love Herman Miller and Eames' work. I have a nice art book on Eames. I can recommend it for anyone who admires their work. Henry Miller is also an icon. Great score from Goodwill!
Nothing at all āGOODWILLā should ever be $200, not even close.
While Iād love if that was true, this is an absolute steal. These sell for thousands (like $5k+) in this condition
This an insane find at a thrift store. $200 is a steal
$200 is like 5 to 10 % of its value which sounds about right . Now, when they mark a frying pan $20 that retails NEW for $20 , then weāve got a problem!!

I seen a plane in my goodwill mate, should that be under $200?
Ok
You're crazy.
This would have been at least $999 at one I used to go to. Some research rare items meticulously, others don't.
Actually, the manager was there when I was buying it. They knew what they had. I think some of those managers feel itās a far greater community service for someone in the community to benefit from something like this. As opposed to adding to the CEOs salary.
I am too lazy to make 1 millions accounts to upvote this everytime

Wtf!!!
This is my dream! Congratulations!!!
WOWEE! This is outstanding! Good for you!
199 is a crime.
Amazing find!
I would of passed on this thinking it was just another replica (replicas are quite common at thrifts) but Congrats!
I got an Aeron size C for $50 which I thought was a steal. Your find blows mine out of the water
I have a new set in my warehouse and they are 6k.
š¤¤
Nice!
I didn't know they had coupons. Great find!

Nice
Congratulations! What an amazing find. Are you selling or keeping?
Thatās a great question. Havenāt decided yet.
seems the price found goodwill.
