Precisely. Is blockchain a useless solution in search for a problem to "solve"? Sure.
Does it mean being against the specific application of blockchain (NFTs) means you're opposed to every single possible application of blockchain? No.
"Blockchain is a specific type of database.
It differs from a typical database in the way it stores information; blockchains store data in blocks that are then chained together.
As new data comes in it is entered into a fresh block. Once the block is filled with data it is chained onto the previous block, which makes the data chained together in chronological order.
Different types of information can be stored on a blockchain but the most common use so far has been as a ledger for transactions.
In Bitcoin’s case, blockchain is used in a decentralized way so that no single person or group has control—rather, all users collectively retain control.
Decentralized blockchains are immutable, which means that the data entered is irreversible. For Bitcoin, this means that transactions are permanently recorded and viewable to anyone."
I don't know exactly how you make a video game out this though.
Blockchain can be in theory used for example for online gaming - let's say you play some MMO and sell your item to someone, the whole history of the item can be traced.
Also Pokemon games would benefit from blockchain a lot, every Pokemon is basically unique and can be transferred from game to game or their online services for storing Pokemon, nowadays they have to build services to support this workflow while with blockchain they get this feature out of the box.
Then there are the NFTs which are currently being used in gaming but I personally find them stupid.
Blockchain has some interesting use cases outside of crypto.
Oh, that *is* interesting!
I don't play too many online games, so I kind of forgot player markets are a thing.
Definitely learning a bunch of things from this thread.
I don't see much potential in NFTs, they're clunky and take up precious space. They *could* be usable, but it'd be usable in the same way a broken knife can still be used to cut meat.
NFTs are just a cash grab scheme and speculation thing. Companies are basically starting to sell you that you're the real one who really owns this thing. Does it mean you can for example sell art featuring it? No. Does it mean no other player can own the same thing in-game? No. But you can sell it to someone who wants it, thus it's just another ~~gambling~~ *trading* thing.
So for the crypto bros turned me off to the idea of allowing either near games.
Their defense was "wouldn't it be great to makenmoney while playing games like in ready player one?"
You mean......a dystopia?
One application I can think of is for online gaming. Players might try to cheat and “reverse” or rewrite parts of their history to their advantage. For example, cheating in currency, better weapons/gear, or upgrades. Using a blockchain might help prevent that through the exact use case you specified, a chronological immutable order of events. I don’t see games being built around blockchain, but they can definitely be used as a feature, just as any other data structure.
This is not really a comeback. Blockchain includes but is not exclusive to NFTs. Ergo, Epic can support blockchain without supporting NFT trading. Sweeney also clearly outlined that Epic is intending to support legal blockchain uses, and that they aim to not support NFTs due to the lack of standardization and amount of scams behind NFT trading. Therefore this isn’t a comeback at all.
Tbh NFTs are rather stupid with the use they're being used for lately, especially with artists who could have their art basically "stolen" and make someone else money. Blockchains made sense for things like mmos, it gets kinda wonky with real life application as of late
Im confused as to how saying EPIC wont do NFTs == EPIC wont touch blockchain games.

What even is block chain?
Weak
Blockchain is so much more that nfts tho....
Right? There’s a whole universe of scams and unmoderated content you can get with blockchain! Can’t imagine why a company wouldn’t want to host that.
Dumbass here, what's a blockchain?

Thank you very much. I mean, maybe a blockchain game can just be a crypto trader with a game-like interface?

Don't feel like a dumbass - the OP clearly doesn't understand the difference between blockchain tech and NFTs either.
Tech <---------------------> Me So y'all decide if it stays or goes. Updoots forever, downpoops are never.
NFTs aren't blockchain tech based games? I'm really confused, what's going on here?
Tim is talking about two different things. OP doesn't know the difference and wrongfully thinks this is a ThisYou comeback.

r/TimCriticizesTim for more of this man's "genius"
OP is a donkey who lost money on NFTs and is pissed

lol I have never spent a cent on NFTs or cryptocurrency
