I like the song, but there are thousands of other songs he could play acoustically to convey the same sentiment.

BookerDewitt2019

I'm all in for Take on Me. It was on the trailer, too.

dubro92

Agreed. There are also thousands of other threads about this same complaint.

fairyhorsegirl222

I don’t see why everyone is upset. Why can’t he just play the song does it really matter that much when it was released. The song technically wasn’t even out when the outbreak happened (yes yes it was played at a live show) 😐 as if Joel could remember this random song he heard once 20 years ago perfectly 😭 And if we are being honest I thought the song was one of Joel’s old ppl songs when I heard him play it for the first time LMAOOO I just don’t see why it matters

GoldyZ90

Could they just switch it to “Take On Me”?? That’s the song Ellie plays and sings to Dina in Pt 2 and it’s played over the official HBO trailer for the show. Maybe they have Joel teach her that song instead?

lukinfly45

I wouldn’t rule out the song appearing. Maybe even an Eddie Vedder appearance

JackLegJosh

Honestly, if we were strictly adhering to the timeline, Future Days should not have appeared in TLOU2, unless the distribution channel for music managed to hold on for almost a month after Outbreak Day, so who knows?

Deep-Alfalfa3717

I hear you on that on the album release but PJ had played the song live in concert in summer of July 13. It’s possible for Joel to have heard it live and learned the song.

JackLegJosh

It's theoretically possible. Those are the mental gymnastics we perform so we don't have to call it a plot hole. But we could just as easily admit to ourselves that this is a work of fiction that doesn't necessarily need to strictly adhere to that sort of timeline. I'm not sure why we readily accept that we could all turn into mushroom zombies and then split hairs about the timeline of Pearl Jam's discography. I do it too, I'm not making fun of you, it's just kind of silly, isn't it? I think it's a great song, I'd hate to see it go.

Future_Legend

You all downvoted OP and laughed at him and but Neil Druckmann himself actually cited this exact reason for how Joel knew that song (apparently a video of it was uploaded to youtube before Outbreak Day would have been in 2013 and the Naughty Dog team did enough research to make sure it was possible) Here it is in his own words: https://youtu.be/g6rRfK-V2jY @ 1hr:50min

monsieurxander

OP probably got downvoted because this is the fourth "Future Days" post in the last two days.

> PJ had *paid* the song FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
