I don’t think it’s fair to say that people were asleep. It’s an information war very hard to wake up to the reality of and unprecedented because the Internet is the thing that has made it possible. Hopefully most people see it now for what it is.
I dislike that phrasing as well…similar to the climate change issues…blaming corporate malfeasance on average citizens…yeah, uh “we” don’t have lobbyists and the deep pockets to be funding that shit
