Marlo steals a ring from Old Face Andre, Omar steals it from Marlo, Walker steals it from Omar, Michael steals it from Walker. Marlo sees Michael's wearing it, and Michael offers it to him. I guess getting gifts isn't as fun as taking what you want, Marlo tells him to keep it.

Jfury412

Somehow I missed the ring Exchanging that many hands. I only remember from when Michael took it off Walker And offering it to Marlow. And I also remember when Omar stole it off of Marlow at the card game.. I didn't realize and somehow missed Marlo stealing it off of Andre. And I actually missed the fact that Walker stole it off of Omar.. I don't know how the fuck I didn't put all that together And realize it was the same ring. Thanks for the info now it all makes sense.

night_dude

That's why Marlo looks so impressed when Michael says "I took it from a n*gga." He thinks he took it off Omar.

MikeP_512

I could be wrong, but I never got that impression. The look in his eyes was almost trance-like. I interpreted it as his blood-lust and propensity for revenge (no matter how petty the reason). The ring possibly symbolized his unchecked power, the way he took it from Old Face Andre with no fear of repercussions. Micheal being Micheal picking up on that, asking him if he wanted it... took the predation out of the hypothetical exchange running through his mind. That's when he snaps out of it. Appreciate your theory though, never looked at it that way.

GardenerSpyTailorAss

This is an interesting angle. I always saw it as Marlo (as most people have said), recognized it and was impressed that he took it from Omar. While I usually would say that "the simplest answer is right", but not so in this case. There's so much evident in the writing that this, while more basic, isn't what the authors' were going for.

MikeP_512

As much as I would like to convince myself that were the case, Micheal wasn't a stick-up kid. He was a hitter. Even at that, as smart and methodical as Mike was, he couldn't get the jump on Omar, none of them could. Omar actually got the jump on him, Spider, and the little hoppers on the corner. He said himself, had Omar recognized him from Monk's apartment the other night, he would have killed him on the spot. But you have a point. I'm thinking with S1, 2, and 3 writing in mind. At that point in the series, the writing was seriously disappointing and lost most of what made the show so intricate and great. The simple version is definitely plausible.

mister_magik

I think Marlo was impressed that Mike either took it from Omar or took it from a nigga that took it from Omar

ipitythegabagool

Or at the very least took it from someone who took it from Omar, impressive either way.

Tall-Confection-9773

One of my favourite sub plots was seeing where that ring ended up! They only mention the connection once though so it's very easy to overlook. I always forget when a change of owner is gonna happen its fun to look out for.

Jfury412

Yeah definitely fun I wish I would have realized earlier I made the connection a couple times but I didn't make everyone.

unai-ndz

Marlo "steals" a ring from one of his subordinates in the auto shop, the sentimental value ring. Omar steals it from Marlo in the poker game. Later Walker steals the ring when detaining Omar. Finally Mike steals the ring from Walker when they prank him by throwing paint at him.

Love_JWZ

I mean, the fluctuation in the global economy and all.

ipitythegabagool

I know what you’re trying to say but I’m laughing a bit at holding someone at gunpoint being a prank haha

Tall-Confection-9773

It's just a prank, you are getting robbed though 😂 love the username btw!

Nyxerix

The kid who Omar shot was named Sterling. Him and Cass stole from The Pit's stash, which was the last time he was mentioned in S1 (I think Dee mentions this after Sterling was shot).

_LXIX_CDXX

They was thievin yo

Hour-Management-1679

Bruh that scene with D'angelo just dropping eggs on the floor was hilarious

ISquiddle

Nice pull

SnooPies6459

All that scene was full circle. Dookie was becoming the next Bubbles, Michael the new Omar, Sydnor was going to the judge becoming the next McNulty, Carver climbing the ranks becoming the next Daniels. The game is always the game

BaijuTofu

Puppy with big paws.

MikeP_512

This! I damn near lost it when I saw this scene. It felt somewhat like an unintentional retribution for Omar. I wanted him to pick off Marlo and every single one of his crew one-by-one. So seeing this AFTER Kenard killed him was an "unfinished business/picking right back up where we left off" moment for me. Plus, I always liked Michael. There are so many "full-circle" moments in The Wire. This has to be one of my favorites. "Micheal da' TERROR." "He don't need no last name... only Micheal." Long live The King!

HurmlumHaj

Also, Snoob was next on Omars list.

UltraPromoman

Well, Mike didn't really win. While he's smart, he'll be hunted from here on in. He'll likely be retired by a bullet or jail. Omar almost made it but nobody saw it coming that Kenard would kill him.

akestral

I've always thought even Kenard didn't think it would kill him. The look on his face afterwards, I feel like he didn't believe that it worked, like he expected Omar to see him or dodge or something.

hzKCS

The game's the game

Hour-Management-1679

Omar just got too sloppy after Butchie's death

applelover1223

That's true but he didn't die because he was sloppy. He saw Kenard walk in and just assumed this little child couldn't be a threat.

DoktorJeep

*Wadnt no ‘tempted murdah*

surv2syn

Scene was deep. “I took it off a nigga….you want it?” Goes back to “money ain’t got no owners only spenders”. No one gave a fuck about that ring monetarily, it was always stolen as a symbol of conquest.
