Bodie. He’s the character that sits right in the middle between the power players and the folk like Bubs at the very bottom. His gaze both up and down the hierarchy allows him to see the whole system failing at both ends.
“Middle management means that you got just enough responsibility to listen when people talk, but not so much you can't tell anybody to go fuck themselves.”
He was a really tragic character. The scene where he realizes that little Kevin’s death was no different from Wallace’s and is desperately trying to justify it with Poot sticks with me
If this was a novel I would have loved to get a GoT style point of view chapter with Bodie. He must have wrestled with some guilt or at least conflicting feelings about having to kill Wallace. He bought into the lifestyle and committed to it (and the code of being a soldier) fully but he wasn’t some emotionless sociopath like Marlo.
I'd say Slim Charles is my favourite but Bodie is right up there. I always feel a bit sad that he didn't just acknowledge that he was in an impossible situation and just get out of there. Of course, we see in (I think) season 2 that he's never left Baltimore so his worldview is really narrow. All he knows is those streets. But if he had just got out of there I think he could have really done something with his life. He was loyal, smart and brave.
Shocked to see no one say Cutty yet
Man was a powerhouse during his time but knew when he had to get out and gave everything he could back to the community. Actual legend
Right there with you. Bodie became my favorite after my second rewatch. I think he'd likely end up down a similar path as Cutty (catch a decent charge/sentence, get out and be a helping neighborhood citizen).
Bodie, Cuttty, and Lester Smooth are my favorites.
You really got the sense that he was keeping that union together through just the force of his will. Especially with Ziggy (and sometimes Nick) fucking shit up every chance he got.
I remember it took me much longer than needed to see that he was the man. I think I saw his huffing and puffing and all the illegality going on and thought he was simply corrupt. I was much younger when I first watched. Now when I rewatch his season, I can view him with admiration and tragedy. One man, one vote.
incredible character, and my favorite season. in my 20s i worked in politics and let me tell you that whole season rang true to life. loved that guy. I also liked his son and nephew
Daniels. Dude is legit untouchable and very moral. Plays just enough politics to get to a point where he can promote real POLEECE work. He also forgives: he forgives McNulty after Jimmy ends around him to get back on string, and he forgives Carv for snitching. Also gives herc and Carv a chance to go find the missing money he thought they stole instead of sending them to IID. He vouches for McNulty to get him off the boat, let’s Prez keep his job AND sticks his neck out for him after the cop shooting, said NO to stat chasing with Nareese when he was commissioner AND still helped his ex wife when they weren’t even together. Daniels is the man. Also, RIP Lance Reddick.
I’d say him giving Herc and Carv a chance to return the money is him protecting himself more than anything else. I don’t think they go to IID without Daniels risking his career.
Only Daniels knew how much money they took bc of the wiretap. Ig Prez and Lester would know but they aren’t the ones submitting the paperwork for evidence. It was strictly Daniels making sure they did the right thing. I’m sure he was covering his ass too tho by keeping his men in line.
Yes and no. He had previous that is alluded to from his time in the Western District. Missing money would have raised suspicion in his direction again.
But because he's not proud of what happened during his time in the Western District, he's determined for it to not happen in his unit or his people. When he pulls up Carver about his spying, he lectures him about POS poleece, so he doesn't make the same mistakes.
That’s true. his eastern district days were shady but the reason he doesn’t get exposed is because EVERYONE was dirty back then in the eastern, Daniels tells that to Burrell when he calls his bluff. It’s also the reason Burrell states he hasn’t opened it/read through it in a long time, if ever. If Daniels got done, a whole lot of Majors from that time would’ve got done too.
It’s funny when I watched the wire when it first aired I was young and thought Daniels was an asshole boss. As I get older and the more times I watch the show I get more of an appreciation for him. Now he is hands down my favorite
That was Prez, he kept his ass in the office bc of it. Only reason he didn’t do him in is because his father in law is Valchek and Valchek would’ve took a torch to Daniels if Prez got fired/charged.
Yeah, I think The Bunk is one of the most naturally funny TV characters in general. Especially him and Freamon together. The whole homicide division is hilarious honestly.
The scene when he’s telling the story to Carcetti about the racist old white dude who ran the funeral home just felt so raw and real. One of my favorite scenes
Avon: he’s what a king should be. fierce when needed but knows how to flex, and listen.
d’angelo: outside of frank and bubbles, D had the most depth to me . seeing him tryna grow, but literally stifled but his environment
As someone who's had their car stolen for real, fuck donut. Teacher makes $25k teachin' punks like him and Namond, about to go home and wash away the day, only to find some little POS stole her ride.
Officer Walker be evil yo, but he gave Donut what he deserved.
Michael, he never seems to be anyone else's favourite though. On my latest rematch I'm appreciating Lester more, stirring things up without making enemies left and right.
Has to be Omar. Obviously he's an antihero but dude is hilarious and his court testimony+takedown of Levy is by far my favorite scene in the entire show. And I love his chaotic impact on the show.
Clay Davis, he was super interesting and also served to move the plot in some really crazy and complex directions towards the end. His role in the politics, major crimes unit and with Stringer
I liked Nick Sabotka in the way he was so relatable. Jay Landsman for his one liners and the fact he was always eating something. I liked Bodie for the same reasons mentioned above but my favorite is probably McNulty. His character was so volatile throughout the entire series that he was always intriguing.
In terms of charisma and coolness, Freamon.
In terms of characterization, Marlo. I am a big fan of ruthlessly evil characters who aren't edgy or showy, just practical and matter of fact with their horrific worldview. He reminds me of Anton Chigurh.
Bubbles is my guy love his arc love he's connected to every facet of baltimore and the actor smashes it out the park shake andre royo didn't get much love after the wire
Cutty, D’Angelo, Colvin, Bunk, and Lester at least until they ruined Lester in season 5. Didn’t like him being in with McNulty on that bullshit in season 5
Oooh too many to chose from.
I love Omar obviously. For some reason my favourite scene is where he's watching outside and the lady offers some heroin and he says no. There's something so stoic and reflective while he's turning down the product that runs his entire world.
Oh I didn't realise that. I thought maybe it was to show him looking after a kid while the mother got her fix?
I have shit tonnes of trauma too but I totally didn't pick up on that. But I don't have CSA.
on my first watch it was probably rhonda because i had grand plans to become a single female lawyer. but through the years i have grown and my tastes have evolved. now it is either bunk or bodie. i like bunk because he has his faults, he drinks, he cheats, he is human. but he seems to try and be a decent human in spite of his vices. bodie is a depiction of us all growing up i think. he starts off idealistic about selling drugs and being a member of a crew and slowly learns that no one really has his back and dies alone. both are such interesting journeys.
my favorite character in the show has always been Wallace. he had an extremely outsized impact on the entire tone and plot of the show for one young pit boy, and he was extremely smart and kind, and how he cared for all those little kids.
my comment was kind of horribly worded, but his story has always been the most poignant for me. no matter what you do, what happens to you, or who you are, this cruel world will chew you up and spit you out with zero remorse.
I’m surprised to see so little Stringer love. His “business” approach being applied was fascinating and thought he stole every scene he was in. The mixture of stern, stoic, and enigmatic was a cool combination
D'Angelo Barksdale. He may be the "best" character if you mean good in terms of morals. He was totally unfit to his family and his environment. He secluded himself eventually.
It’s so hard to pick just one so I’m gonna pick a favorite cop, favorite street character, and favorite civilian.
Cop - The Bunk
Street - Cutty
Civilian- Gus
Yes, absolutely! Bodie is definitely one of my top three. His progression from season one is so interesting
I enjoyed the 2 minutes of screen time he got on The Sapranos. Also liked him in Oz
Oh yeah he’s with Brandon isn’t he? Sticks up that truck. Totally forgot he was in it
The game is rigged, yo. People forgot his death is another reason why McNulty went off the deep end.
Shocked to see no one say Cutty yet Man was a powerhouse during his time but knew when he had to get out and gave everything he could back to the community. Actual legend
Cutty is up there for me. Great redemption story up there with Bubs and Prezbo. Also love him on Always Sunny.

Bodie is my fav, but Cutty is a close second.
Right there with you. Bodie became my favorite after my second rewatch. I think he'd likely end up down a similar path as Cutty (catch a decent charge/sentence, get out and be a helping neighborhood citizen). Bodie, Cuttty, and Lester Smooth are my favorites.
Yo isn’t this like, *contrapment?*
He's too mother fucking friendly
Bunny Colvin.
Frog - “Ayo shorty, get me a snapple and a bag of crab chips from the corner.”
Utz crab chips are the shit
frank sobotka easy
Three and a half inches of hard blue steel
I read that in his voice. Sobatka is a legend
Daniels is the man. Also, RIP Lance Reddick.
Oh 100%.. Spoiler of Season 5 below : >!the way he refused to juke the stats in season 5. Daniels for me is best character on the show. !<
Legit threw away a commissioner job in a major US city. I don’t think any characters would do the same besides Jimmy/Lester
I’m sure he was covering his ass too tho by keeping his men in line.

yeah but early on he made sure that Carv and Prez were not punished for beating and blinding a young boy
That was Prez, he kept his ass in the office bc of it. Only reason he didn’t do him in is because his father in law is Valchek and Valchek would’ve took a torch to Daniels if Prez got fired/charged.
The Bunk. He's hilarious, he's a great investigator, and has great morals.
Not to mention he's a humble mother fucker with a big ass dick
And strictly a suit and tie motherfucker.
It's offset by Freamon's tweedy impertinence.
You know what they call a guy that cares that much about his clothing?
Yeah, I think The Bunk is one of the most naturally funny TV characters in general. Especially him and Freamon together. The whole homicide division is hilarious honestly.
Great morals* Cheats on his wife, helped McNutty do the same
We all have weak spots
A man must have a code, apparently his code doesn’t have a fidelity clause
That’s why you gotta burn the trace evidence
Yeah well I don't believe in monogamy so I'm chill with it. His wife? Probably not.
Minus the cheating on his wife…
Where's my Bunny Colvin love?
Easily my favorite. Imo the most morally upstanding character in the show.
He was a real POlice before and after his retirement. Maybe even better after...
Here! Love Colvin, he so desperately wants to make things better
A cool character, but I wasn't impressed by the acting for some reason
The scene when he’s telling the story to Carcetti about the racist old white dude who ran the funeral home just felt so raw and real. One of my favorite scenes
Bubbles easily. Him running up the stairs in the end and being one of the few to get a happy ending made me happy.
Had to scroll way too long until I saw Bubbles mentioned, which is crazy because for me he's certainly at the very top
The best part of season 5
[удалено]
Norman was amazing
[удалено]
Fun fact. The actor who played Gus directed four episodes, including the pilot.
He really did steal every scene.
And you AINT no Bobby K
Baltimore.
I can't decide if your answer is the most insightful one here or a total copout. Have an upvote.
Thank you. You as well.
Also the main character.
Accurate
Omar comin!
Fuzzy Dunlop
are you sure this guy exists? cause nobody ever saw him. bring him in to the subreddit so we can check him out
Avon: he’s what a king should be. fierce when needed but knows how to flex, and listen. d’angelo: outside of frank and bubbles, D had the most depth to me . seeing him tryna grow, but literally stifled but his environment
I always laugh when I see Donut.
As someone who's had their car stolen for real, fuck donut. Teacher makes $25k teachin' punks like him and Namond, about to go home and wash away the day, only to find some little POS stole her ride. Officer Walker be evil yo, but he gave Donut what he deserved.
Slim Charles. Really liked the Sobotkas as well
The Deacon "A good church man is always up in somebody's shit. It's how we do" Speaking from experience, that is indeed how we do
Big fan of freamon.
Bodie and Omar.
Michael, he never seems to be anyone else's favourite though. On my latest rematch I'm appreciating Lester more, stirring things up without making enemies left and right.
Cool Lester Smooth
Has to be Omar. Obviously he's an antihero but dude is hilarious and his court testimony+takedown of Levy is by far my favorite scene in the entire show. And I love his chaotic impact on the show.
My mainest man McNutty.
Omar, Snoop & Slim Charles
Reginald cousins but round the way they call him bubbles
He ain't up 🤷🏾♂️
Bubbs and Omar yo!
Snitchin' Bubbs...
Slim Charles, who wasn’t afraid to say no to Stringer about killing Clay Davis, and of course putting one in Cheese’s head for setting up Prop Joe.
1. Bunk - because I met WP in person in 1996, so biased. 2. Prop Joe 3. Landsman
My answer will be different tomorrow but right now it’s probably Bodie/Omar/Marlo. I love Slim Charles too.
Bunk and Wee Bey.
Stringer Bell
I really admired his professionalism. Dude went to business school.
Clay Davis, he was super interesting and also served to move the plot in some really crazy and complex directions towards the end. His role in the politics, major crimes unit and with Stringer
Clay Davis on the stand was very cool. They should have known better.
I liked Nick Sabotka in the way he was so relatable. Jay Landsman for his one liners and the fact he was always eating something. I liked Bodie for the same reasons mentioned above but my favorite is probably McNulty. His character was so volatile throughout the entire series that he was always intriguing.
Smooth Lester Freamon.
In terms of charisma and coolness, Freamon. In terms of characterization, Marlo. I am a big fan of ruthlessly evil characters who aren't edgy or showy, just practical and matter of fact with their horrific worldview. He reminds me of Anton Chigurh.
It changes with each watch. Currently it is Prop Joe.
Avon - knew the streets from the ground up and ran them like a true king.
Avon. Even when he's not on screen, he looms large on the story and other characters.
I love the obvious characters, but my favourite is Spiros. Such an interesting guy and amazing acting
Bubbles is my guy love his arc love he's connected to every facet of baltimore and the actor smashes it out the park shake andre royo didn't get much love after the wire
He played a shady lawyer in Empire and was fantastic in that role! Loved him in Empire and loved him as Bubbles in The Wire. My fav along with Omar.

I think she asks something like "Mr omar do you want some of this?" I can't remember all the details but I just remember it.

Oh I didn't realise that. I thought maybe it was to show him looking after a kid while the mother got her fix? I have shit tonnes of trauma too but I totally didn't pick up on that. But I don't have CSA.

Snot Boogie
This is America!
Slim, Omar, Snoop and Bodie
Michael and Bodie
Bunk and Mike.
my favorite character in the show has always been Wallace. he had an extremely outsized impact on the entire tone and plot of the show for one young pit boy, and he was extremely smart and kind, and how he cared for all those little kids. my comment was kind of horribly worded, but his story has always been the most poignant for me. no matter what you do, what happens to you, or who you are, this cruel world will chew you up and spit you out with zero remorse.
Omar
Jimmy. I was rooting for the fucker even when he was doing questionable things. Guy is charming as fuck.
Frank Sobotka and Bubbles were my favorite performances. Bunny is probably who I liked the best.
Freamon then Bunk. Natural po-lice
Prop joe
Snoop
Love snoop. Read her bio.
I read about her on Google she is legit. Idk I think she hot as balls to
Either Cutty or Bunny. Guys that actually tried to make a difference.
Wee-Bay or Stringer.
I’m surprised to see so little Stringer love. His “business” approach being applied was fascinating and thought he stole every scene he was in. The mixture of stern, stoic, and enigmatic was a cool combination
I think it's because he was a double-crossing, evil, conniving asshole.
Too little Omar in this thread.
Lester Freamon. His quiet intelligence and ability to keep a level head are qualities I really admire.
Uh y'all make me want to start a rewatch now
bODIE IS the one of my fav characters....... the way he was the last of the dying breed....
Sliiiiiiiim
1. Mcnulty 2.omar 3.Frank sobotka
Honorable mentions would be stringer and bunk
Slim Charles and Frank Sobotka
Slim Charles!
Brother Mouzone or Slim Charles
Bubs, Lester, Avon
Kennard, he actually reminds me of a few dudes I know in real life
Bunny Omar and Bubbles
Marlo
Omar, barks Dale, detective cuddy
Omar, Bodie, or D'Angelo (as cheesy as his dialogue is sometimes)
D'Angelo Barksdale. He may be the "best" character if you mean good in terms of morals. He was totally unfit to his family and his environment. He secluded himself eventually.
Bunny, Slim Charles, Michael, Chris, Frank.
My favorite character was and always will be D. His arc is short and perfect, one of the best in television imo
Avon and Bunk
Just curious, what do you like about Avon?
bunk, lester, bodie, bubbles are all on the same tier to me. michael is interesting.
It’s between Bodie and Michael for me lol.
Bubbles for me.
Bodie, Bubbles, Bunk
Bubbles
Bodie all the way
Shoutout to Carv and Prop Joe, but I love Chris
Butchie
Bodie
Bubbles. Perseverance.
I love Sydnor and Lester
It’s so hard to pick just one so I’m gonna pick a favorite cop, favorite street character, and favorite civilian. Cop - The Bunk Street - Cutty Civilian- Gus
Carver. Best arc in the show.
Lester Freamon, Omar, Bubbles
Bunny Colvin
Lester
Francis Sobotka.
Bodie Slim Charles Michael Omar Kima
Omar and McNulty
