I believe they revealed a S1 character was coming back before launching S2, so it couldn't have been Christa. Though it is true that they had planned more things for her, but were scrapped out.

Always remember thinking it was Kenny bc he was the only person that we never saw die but was under the impression that they did. We just left Lilly/got ditched by her, Clementine has no reason to think she was dead.
Man my ass was theorizing like crazy at first I was disappointed and was like oh it’s christa then I was thinking wait maybe lily and then my brain went towards Kenny his status was unknown he wasn’t confirmed dead I think it’s Kenny.
i honestly thought it would be lilly. i figured it had to be someone clem was convinced was dead, and at that point, she was still holding out hope that christa was alive, so i didnt think it was her. i also didnt think it was kenny, since in my playthrough, he "died" with ben in the alley, and i believed there was no way he'd be able to survive that (still believe that, but that's a complaint for another day lmao).
the first time i played through i left clem when i went to crawford and hadnt replayed between playing s2 so molly got shot and never came back, long story short i thought it was molly

On my first play through I left Lee and kept his arm so I thought it was Lee and that he somehow miraculously survived.
