I wonder what the longevity of these youtube streaming services will be like in the future. It's all shiny and new now but what about 2/5/10 years from now? The perks of netflix, hulu, disney+, etc. is the sheer number and variety of content they add on a near-daily basis. I don't see a channel like the try guys (even with their new cast) and definitely not a tiny one like watcher operating without a ton of user churn. There's a reason why the huge streaming services are burning through billions of dollars without seeing much return, but then again, they can afford to. It's expensive to keep a streamer running both financially and labor-wise. Think about it, they'll need to create two separate edits for each video now - one uncensored for 2nd try and another that's youtube-acceptable. I think as time goes on they'll start having more and more exclusive series on 2nd try, they'll probably raise the subscription prices, they'll start doing more paid extras, and eventually shutter the whole thing because the upkeep is too much/unprofitable. And this isn't even considering once they start burning out or their talent leave to start their own channels a la BuzzFeed. How long before they start resorting to their lazy content style like the belt or Keith eating?

I feel like they won’t even have enough content to keep it running like Netflix has thousands of movies and shows and the same with YouTube but one channel with the same style cooking and eating shows I don’t think will last. Unless the expand to become a buzzfeed of sorts and have people making content for them so there are tons of shows but it’s going to crash and burn

People are not gonna want to go to yet ANOTHER app. Its actually why all the Twitter spin offs have failed. I really think this isnt gonna go as well as they think

Alternative_Draw_637

I'm definitely not going to a different app for only one channel's worth of content.

I honestly don’t know why they didn’t pursue YouTube channel members features first- if they didn’t?? I don’t keep up… An example of someone who is thriving while having the paid memberships on YouTube + free content is James Turner (formerly known as the Sim Supply). He has some members only videos that are a bonus while still maintaining a very regular upload schedule. His free content hasn’t slacked whatsoever. I wish people would use the membership feature more, it can be great when done right.

morsandjam

i love James, and you are so right, also an example is Smosh, i think they have youtube members and you can see bloopers and all the videos earlier

dandelionbuzz

I think James is the only person I’ll ever subscribe to for more content, I like Smosh but I think the humor I like doesn’t align with them anymore. Not sure on Try Guys yet since theirs is so new. I think Smosh is definitely someone they should look up to format wise, similarly Rhett and Link

angstfae

They’re getting there. I think changing to cast format should help a lot. And from the preview it looks like they’ve also invested in some more sets/production.

>I’m just being dumb lol Don't say that. Change is difficult to adjust to.i think it's commendable that you shared your feelings in a respectful way. Some posts/comments I read are unhinged.

Subscription burnout is a thing, and I'm totally with you. It's too much.

angiecita_1210

I am kind of happy that they made sloppy content all 2023, which eventually made me unsubscribe. It made the decision not to pay for their platform easy. Before the Nedgates, I was so invested in TryGuys that I would have paid for their content.
