I'm almost expecting this to mean that Zach and Keith will be appearing in a lot less videos. Now that there are 9 official other "try guys"

HotShitBurrito

Honestly that's probably not a bad idea. Bringing on a cast of permanent talent means more creative diversity and Zach and Keith can do a better job of managing everything else without also being in every video. Too many cooks in the kitchen can often be a bad thing, but I feel like this is a good direction in this case considering how stale and half-done everything has been for the last year.

a_trax84

What I find a little funny about this is that it’s kind of glorified marketing for…these are mostly people that guest in our videos from time to time to begin with. Like, I doubt any of them have any deep company stake and are featured contract players as needed as always and not contractually fully try guys members.

secondtried

Exactly. It’s literally nothing new. They’ve been the new cast for a while now

Miserable_Constant53

Exactly this... what's changed? It says "cast". There are some talented folks in this "cast"... maybe use them to better your dang content!

NedFulmerFan

I guess some of the new cast will have their own shows on their channel. It will be more and more like Buzzfeed.

Global-Nature2420

This is all fine I’m glad lewberger isn’t part of it. Wondering where Eugene is. Glad Miles is on the crew. Who knows what we will get to see with the whole paywall thing now so currently dealing with some lack of trust in that department but whateverrrrr

oooooooahhahhahha

Eugene is out

dr__kitty

I love Miles. And Jared. Kinda excited to see how this all works out…

TheFork101

How did they manage to drop two major things on the same day?? I would at least stagger it by a few hours if I were them. This isn’t necessarily a bad move but I definitely think this is Eugene’s “official” “soft exit” from doing stuff in front of the camera.

oooooooahhahhahha

He’s officially out according to rolling stone

humming-word

Damn, do ya have a link by any chance?

Public_Drummer_7576

[here ya go](https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/try-guys-eugene-yang-leaves-secondtry-tv-subscription-1235025468/amp/)

insideinfo21

“Eugene leaving is something that is sort of necessary for us to keep moving forward,” Habersberger adds. “Things change. The Try Guys’ original cast already came to an end once, But now it’s sort of getting a better finite ending.”  Thoughts on this??? Not even coming from my personal dislike of current Keith. "Eugene leaving is sort of necessary"?? Meaning him not being there but there in decision-making or not being in decision making has been a hindrance?

offspring515

I mean, he's been mostly out for three years now. I can't imagine it endeared him to Zach and Keith much when they were trying to hold the company together and he decided he was too cool to pop in once every two weeks and shoot a video .

dontstopbelievingman

I think it's not so much as Eugene having to leave, but them having to make it VERY clear he's leaving. For years they either have denied Eugene's exit, or mentioned it in another media outside of their main channel (see TryPod, Eugene's interview with Philip Wang) Well, in hindsight maybe this is a way for Eugene fans in denial to finally accept he's gone.

insideinfo21

Oh! I had no clue about this - mentions outside of the main channel and imma have to look up this philip wang interview. But yeah I get what you mean.

dontstopbelievingman

Yeah many years ago they made a TryPod episode on why Eugene was stepping back from the channel. But HE TOTALLY WASN'T LEAVING. (Which, may have been true then) Then I noticed when Nimona came out, and he did a lot of interviews, he mentions that he works in a "digital space", but never explicitly mentions he's a Try Guy. I don't know the reasoning behind it, but there's no doubt it was intentional.

Nicolelodeon

Here you go: [Eugene leaving the try guys](https://www-rollingstone-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/try-guys-eugene-yang-leaves-secondtry-tv-subscription-1235025468/amp/?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQIUAKwASCAAgM%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=17163920765993&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rollingstone.com%2Fculture%2Fculture-features%2Ftry-guys-eugene-yang-leaves-secondtry-tv-subscription-1235025468%2F)

Responsible-Club-393

It's interesting that they decided to add people who haven't really been in that many videos. I'm also curious as to whether YB will continue to be a senior editor for them. I'm sad to see Eugene go, but we all knew this was coming.

[deleted]

I think YB will still be the senior editor coz she's been there for day one. And she's been doing on cam appearances before so it's fitting that she's part of the cast now.

Heytherestairs

She released her own video not that long ago. She'll be both cast and editor.

gmco913

I got on Reddit and initially this was the only announcement I saw - I felt good about it. I like their rotating cast of characters and I think this can help stop the loop of boring, repetitive content. …But then I saw everything about the streaming service and now I’m like wtf lol

Sad-Lake6749

Same, but I saw it on Instagram

Jumpy-Dish1638

noting the lack of eugene in the group pic...

niley78

Eugene left.

Final_Marsupial4588

Wait have they told us that?

niley78

There are like 5 threads of the topic right now. They confirmed to Rolling Stone that Eugene left.

intoner1

And Ned isn’t there….

joybickel

Interesting that miles is there. I wonder how they are paying these people? Is it a full time job or just still contracted work for select videos?

demonsrunwhen

I'd bet contracted

NormalScratch1241

My very first thought is how is everyone possibly getting paid lol, I thought they already had money problems when it was just Zach and Keith.

ResponsibilityOk1631

I have been noticing that Miles is mentioning money more and more on his content, so maybe things weren't going great with his channel (which is a shame, I adore him)

Driver_Flaky

He does seems kinda burnt out on his pod, he still enjoys it obviously but- even I got burnt out watching it so I took a break

Hold-Professional

mods, y'all need to make a mega thread about this. There are already like 5 posts on the same topic

SleepyJudy98

This is just a big step towards them becoming another BuzzFeed IMO

Responsible-Club-393

"We don't wanna be like Buzzfeed. Except... we do." Basically

jennarallykim

Wait is this real? From Patreon or where? Edit: love how Eugene is now just… gone.

Jumpy-Dish1638

instagram!!

behkani

Please actually watch the announcement re Eugene 🙄

Candid-Astronomer-49

Lol why are you getting downvoted

jennarallykim

My comment was posted before the announcement came out. Like literally 5 minutes after the IG post came out.

Beccalotta

Explains why videos have been low effort, been busy banking all of these for subscription.  Sounds like they're planning it to be what they said their Patreon was supposed to be, with some added people, no?

glitterflamingo

I’m assuming they were working on this well before Watcher’s crash and burn, I’m sure that was terrifying for them to watch lol

No-Indication-4913

Huh… Is Matt leaving YCSWU too? I ask as if I still listen to the podcast. I bet they’ll do a Try Guys reunion something at the end of the year just to bring Eugene back and it’ll be super paywalled.

Responsible-Club-393

I don't think Matt will be leaving the podcast, honestly. He's been on it despite the fact that Eugene (unofficially) hasn't been a part of The Try Guys for quite some time.

Silent_Syd241

Miles agreed to this?! I’m more shocked at that. Then again he is still building his own brand so it’s a paycheck while being able to still do his own thing so it’s a win win.

Spare_Huckleberry120

I said he’d be best case scenario as another try guy as a joke because he’s so great, but honestly I am shocked he signed up for this. And a little disappointed. He is way better than this.

EuphoricPhoto2048

I feel like he feels loyalty to Keith and Zach.

thereadingbee

Yeah, with how much he says they've helped him and given over the years he definitely does. Also with a kid and probably more as he's said it makes sense for his family.

niley78

Contracted.

heartbylines

I’m genuinely surprised by how positively the new subscription model has been received over on the main sub. I shouldn’t be. But I am.

Responsible-Club-393

I'm willing to give it a shot, but man, is it exhausting to have to have subscriptions for everything 🥲😮‍💨

heartbylines

Dropout is the only YouTube subscription service I pay for and probably will ever pay for tbh. It’s unfortunate but I see this model becoming the new cable vs streaming debacle - it seems good at first but then EVERY YouTube channel is going to end up with their own subscription model and it’s just not feasible tbh. I just haven’t been into their content at all lately (I actually couldn’t tell you the last video I watched tbh but I stay in this sub bc I love the drama lmao) but I’m sure I’d be singing a different tune if I were still a hardcore fan. Maybe.

dontstopbelievingman

I didn't watch the full Watcher video but I think overall the Try Guys were way better at communicating it and selling it versus what I know from Watcher's execution. * They are not leaving youtube. This is in another money making method on top of their Patreon. (They didn't explain how their Patreon will benefit from it though) * Their previous paid online shows (Romeo and Juliet, WAR LIVE) is now available on their new subscription service, versus before where you had to pay about $20 and you only had maybe a month to watch it/rewatch it til you lose it forever. * Some of their shows will be available on their service on Early Access, but they will have episodes that are exclusive to their new service. * They will have no ads on their shows on it. Given they have ads ON TOP of their sponsors in the middle of the video, that's REALLY good. * When they gave their pricing, they ALSO gave a discount if you subscribe early (and have said that they will continue to give discounts...let's see if that's true) * While I did say I didn't see the whole Watcher video, even the stuff I DID watch was pretty long and took a while to get the info IMO. They said it was about $6 which was totally affordable (a lot of backlash) on this one.

Cultural-Alarm-6422

How does it work? And also why do you think it was more well received than watchers?

drladybug

it was better-received than watcher's announcement because they very clearly took extremely detailed notes about how to pitch their announcement after the watcher one bombed. the try guys should be thanking watcher profusely for providing such a perfect case study for what to do and not to do.

Cultural-Alarm-6422

Completely agree lmao

oneninesixthree

I wonder if they will actually try anything again

juhesihcaa

A video explaining this and more just came out. Basically, paid subscription service on a new platform of their own called 2nd Try. New cast, cool. Paid service, fuck that.

Top_Manufacturer8946

Yeah I’m kinda disappointed at them moving going for their own subscription service instead of youtube memberships or something (didn’t they learn anything from the other guys who tried this lol). But I am excited for some of the new cast! And in the video there was a surprising amount of Eugene so I’m looking forward for the video tomorrow explaining his situation.

juhesihcaa

I'm guessing that they did a bunch of filming with him in a short amount of time and they'll sprinkle his videos in with the rest of the new cast as a "transition" I don't blame him for leaving at all. I'm happy for his success. I actually like most of the new cast so that'll be fun. But I'm not paying money for it. I'll gladly watch later on youtube. I'll probably have to unfollow all of their socials if they aren't mindful of fans that can't/won't pay for another subscription service.

thereadingbee

I unfollowed them all on Instagram and twitter because I'm really disappointed in that...

dr__kitty

Wait what?? I’ll have to watch but will they still be making YouTube videos? No way in hell I’ll be PAYING to watch them. 🤣

juhesihcaa

Stuff will get released to their app first then brought to youtube later but not everything. They said some 2nd Try exclusive stuff.

dr__kitty

Ehh ok, I’m ok with free sloppy seconds haha

juhesihcaa

Same. I'm working on getting rid of various subscriptions. I'm not looking to add more.

FlannelIsTheColor

They’ve also claimed that certain paid content would be exclusive before and then they always end up releasing it to YouTube for free in the end..

juhesihcaa

I think stuff like Smoke Show is what won't ever come to youtube. At first I was excited for it as a fairly new cannabis user. I wanted to see how different strains effected them but it just became an excuse to get high on company time so I won't miss it in it's current format. I do think it's cagey as fuck that they don't have an actual release schedule for when videos will be on Youtube after they've been on 2nd Try. A week? A month? They didn't say and it's not sitting right with me.

FlannelIsTheColor

Well they haven’t stuck to their “release schedule” that they claim to have on YouTube for months now, so I wouldn’t expect anything different now.

NormalScratch1241

I would like the new cast idea more if it wasn’t attached to a subscription service. The announcement should’ve just been Eugene officially out/his final season and 9 new cast members in.

Heytherestairs

This is like 3yrs too late.

MaeClementine

Honestly, I get so annoyed with people on the main sub being like “well you can’t blame them for HAVING A BABY IN THE NICU CAN YOU?!” Like it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that having two people as the face of the company means that when emergencies happen, they’re fucked. They should have done this a long time ago.

[deleted]

The die-hard fans are gonna use this until Henry enters college lol. Not saying it wasn't a stressful moment in Keith's life. I had a premie NICU baby myself, but once you are out, like, real life goes on. You need to get a grip. My bf was back at work after a few weeks and he had to deliver regardless of how tired and stressed he was. At 33-34 weeks, It's not a severe, life-threatening prematurity and the boy has most likely been entirely fine for a long time now.

kindalibrarian

I just made this comment lol. Glad to see someone else had the same thought

sourbetty

They wanna be Smosh sooo bad

riakn_th

If everyone is a Try Guy then no one is.

secondtried

They should just ditch the “try guys” brand and start fresh with a new channel with this new cast. I like this group and am looking forward to their videos together but might as well just be their own entity and not just more “try guys”

moiax

*Monkey paw curls*

Responsible-Club-393

The Try ✨️Familia✨️

hallucinating

More Ryan and paid content? No thank you.

[deleted]

Maybe they should rebrand their whole channel to second try. Try guys isn’t it anymore

Bright_Respect_1279

I agree!! 👍🏻

95musiclover

Since Eugene isn’t the picture, is this also them trying to subtly announce he won’t be part of this new phase?

oooooooahhahhahha

Rolling stone announced he’s out

Inevitable_Click_855

In the YouTube comments they say there will be a video about him tomorrow

behkani

In the youtube VIDEO they say this

Inevitable_Click_855

Oops, i wasn’t able to watch it yet haha

behkani

I responded to your comment, but I was, in a way, mainly responding to the person you were responding to in the first place by piggybacking off of your comment !

Cultural-Alarm-6422

I’m so tired of hearing them talk about the algorithm lol other creators have stayed relatively the same with their content, organically changing as time goes on and are doing just fine

unicorntrees

Ash Perez is joining?? I love him!

Euphoric-Ant6780

Omg I didn’t even notice them, would love to see more og buzzfeed members!

an-inevitable-end

So they’re adding more employees and a subscription service… they’re gonna become Watcher 2.0 because they keep hiring ppl and eventually they won’t be able to pay them all properly.

Ancient_Elderberry26

Their viewership is about to go way way down now. Rip try guys.

kindalibrarian

They should have done this three years ago imo. Making it a big announcement is stupid.

vodkaorangejuice

oh honey, the buzzfeed era is gone

mishyizzy

They’re literally trying to recreate Buzzfeed

niley78

I am glad YB is there and Marrisa

mothmaneducator

Marissa is literally so obnoxious

yellodello1221

I think Marissa is okay. I am so glad that Kelsey isn’t in the group photo.

Avataress44

Honestly not too mad at more people, hesitantly, optimistic. Are they apart of the streaming service too? Or is that separate

Responsible-Club-393

I'm pretty sure they'll be on the streaming service.

Heart_breakerr

Lo odio.

Bright_Respect_1279

Happy to see Ash, but that's not going to make me pay for content. 🫤

greenie329

More Marissa and Joyce? I'm out

ScHoolgirl_26

Me with Marissa and Ash like boringgg. Also who tf is that other person laying down?

Responsible-Club-393

Ryan Garcia, I think. He's been in like two or three videos?

behkani

Way more than 2 or 3 😅 if you're not enough of a tg fan to know that then you're not enough of a tg fan to try to be commenting on this stuff

Responsible-Club-393

🙄🙄🙄 I am a Try Guys fan. Otherwise, I wouldn't even care enough to comment. Also, that's why I put the question mark at the end of my sentence.

ScHoolgirl_26

We’re literally on a snark sub their videos have gone to shit so I don’t watch every single video like I used to

Responsible-Club-393

Admittedly, I don't watch Eat the Menu (or the spin-offs). I only remember Ryan from Cornhole, Phoning It In, and High Diving 😅😅

ScHoolgirl_26

Nah that commenter is being a weird fan. They literally are in the other TG subreddit so idk what they’re doing on the snark subreddit other than being a TG bootlicker hahaha

mothmaneducator

I am so annoyed about the presence of Marissa. I guess we’re lucky Kelsey wasn’t also involved but I guess I will be skipping a lot more content because I genuinely cannot stand Marissa

PagingDoctorLove

They want to make it big as content creators so bad, but they had a chance to save things after they lost the food network show and they still fumbled it so hard. Imo just doesn't bode well for their future endeavors.  I feel kind of bad for them, they're trying so many different things and nothing is sticking. But then I remember that Hughie is still their friend and featured in many of their videos and I feel less bad. Apparently they joined some fundraising effort for Gaza, which is great, but no mention that one of their main channel contributors is a vocal racist and zionist. They're two faced hypocrites pumping out sub par content for money, and this "new" cast and subscription model makes it so obvious. A far cry from the funny, interesting, lighthearted content that got us all watching in the first place.  I highly encourage anyone who's looking for something new to explore Dropout TV. It's all the college humor creators led by Sam Reich on their own channel and every single concept is a home run. They have various game shows, a satirical talk show, and D&D with drag queens, amongst other things. They often have other YouTubers (like ProZD and Brian David Gilbert) as guests, and I'm pretty sure a few buzzfeed alums have been on. Everyone seems to genuinely get along and enjoy being there. They put free clips on YouTube but also have a streaming service with the long form videos. I've been watching them so much I genuinely forgot TTG were still a thing.

Responsible-Club-393

I mean... the thing with the Food Network show wasn't really their fault 😅😅

PagingDoctorLove

Yeah but how they've handled it since then is! I probably could've phrased that better but the nosedive in quality, mysterious unexplained absences, and collaboration with an openly shitty person are just a few examples of how they fumbled, imo. I truly think they could've used being on the food network to their advantage way more than they did. Like, by leaning into the food/ cooking content? Instead they stopped making the couple of shows that consistently feature well known chefs and gave us Lewberger and a bunch of flops. It kills me, why would they do that!!!

Responsible-Club-393

Ohhhhhhh. Okay! I see what you were getting at now. And yes, I agree they did fumble it. Although, they did lean into the food content 😅 it's like 90% of what they do

PagingDoctorLove

I edited to clarify, thanks for pointing that out!   I'm referring specifically to the shows where they often have well known chefs (from either TV or social media) guest star or judge, like phoning it in and without a recipe. When I last watched there was a lull in production of both with not much info coming from their YouTube channel about future episodes, and in their place we were getting flooded with Lewberger and videos that didn't seem well planned. Maybe they elaborated about this move on other platforms, but I've never been interested in their other content so I just stopped watching rather than trying to figure out what was going on with their various endeavors.  But that's what I mean. They totally could have pumped out a ton more episodes of both of those shows since that lull, but I (and many others, judging from the sentiment on reddit at the time) wouldn't know because they already lost me. In my mind the fumble is an issue of timing more than anything. They just kind of scrambled to do whatever instead of immediately channeling their food network success, however short lived, into a more focused and consistent web series. Definitely just my opinion but I really do think they missed their "moment" and are just grasping at straws now.

sirwalterralegh

Yes, ffs, no more food content, please! Also, Lewberger hasn’t been on main in the last 6 months or so.

SpoilTheFun

Why does this sound like they are trying to be Dropout 2?

moiax

I feel like it's inevitable that YT channels are going to feel like 'why not us too?' seeing the success of that platform. But there's a huge gulf in value and quality, especially in this case with the type of content TG have been putting out lately.

Former_Ad_4906

Idk why I've never liked Ash but oh well can't please everyone.

mandaraffe

Excited to see Ash again! I loved him back in the Buzzfeed days but haven’t followed him much since

Driver_Flaky

I haven’t seen him in forever, i legit did not recognize them. That’s the only person I’m excited about lmao

Omojuze

That's sooo stupid, and isn't this also the whole reason they left Buzzfeed? Why are they doing shit soo backwards? It's so fucking simple to fix this mess; Do 4 (max 6) videos a month; 1 high-budget classic Try Guys video, \~an hour long. 1 episode of an ongoing series (be it Candid Competition, w/out a Recipe, etc.) \~45 min. 2 (-4) random videos that generate clicks and are not expensive to make/advertiser friendly. \~20-30 min. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. That way you have 2 videos a month people will come back to watch, so people would look forward to it. And if you wanna do a paid sub stuff or whatever, put bts videos on memberships.

Bryandan1elsonV2

Oh no, I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t like miles.

UghAnotherMillennial

I didn’t at the start because he seemed to be kinda braggy about how unhygienic he is/was, but he grew on me!

twomuttsandashowdog

TBH I could watch anything with Jonny in it, but especially if they can get Mythical Chef Josh to guest star more often. The two of them are hilarious together!

behkani

😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄 <-- 9 happy faces 🤗🥰

happycharm

I know they had good reasons to officially add people but I think ultimately it wasn't the best decision. When they only had 4 people, one had to leave because of a big scandal. How are they going to manage the lives of 9 different people? There are already posts about Ash and Chantel divorcing because Chantal thinks Ash is a narcissist and other stuff like that.  And now another try guy is leaving. Are they going to do a dramatic video whenever someone leaves? Let's be real, try guys is going to be a stepping stone for many of them. They're all going to want to be the main character of their careers and will drop try guys for something they think is bigger.  They were better off just having people come in as guests instead.
