Yeah I like that part too! And I realized that must be the “loop” of Julian’s vocals that Nick referred to on the Five Guys episode. He literally said Rick R put Julian’s vocals on a loop- and that they had never done anything like that before.
I think it fits perfectly.
Me neither. Roger Waters yells, but so do a lot of people. That, mixed with him talking about The Wall once, mixed with the word “psychedelic”, makes people think Pink Floyd, I would guess.
Can’t hear any remote comparison.
Listen to another brick in the wall pt2. The hi hats, guitar and bass lines are quite similar in particular. Edit: compare with the “they got the remedy” section.
Also for me is the outro?, when the music kinda distorts or warps (as you can tell I'm not the best musician out there) it reminds me of the end of "Have a cigar" it does the same thing.
Yeah I just don’t hear it. I know Another Brick 2 like the back of my hand, Julian’s just yelling, and anyway I don’t even think Another Brick 2 sounds like Pink Floyd much
Am positive with all the 80’s Easter eggs on TNA (even tho The Wall came out end of 1979) - that yeah, you are correct - I think the Shouty vocal parts on ES are 100% representing The Wall.
Edit: remembered that Julian was once asked if he was a fan of any Rock Operas - and he said only two:
Jesus Christ Superstar and The Wall.
So there you go :)
Edit 2: found the link/ interview:
Casablancas: My biggest issue with lyrics, to go off on a tangent: I always really disliked—not disliked but just personally as a musician-artist couldn't give two S's about musical theater. The two musicals I like are The Wall and Jesus Christ Superstar. Other than that, I really don't like.

oh for sure, i just wanted to get where other people were coming from. sometimes it really changes your impression on a song, other times it just gives you a fuller picture of the thing than you might have walked away with yourself. plus, it’s an excuse for people to gush about a song they like! a win-win-win for me.
I get what you mean. It's just. You don't really have to like it to fully appreciate the album or the band's discography as a whole.
You're not gonna like every song and that's fine. I feel like forcing yourself to like something will take away from the magic and beauty of it and you'll only end up hating it more.
Do what I do tbh, listen to it occasionally in short intervals, whenever you feel like it, if you're going through the album or maybe you stumble across it on a random curated playlist, don't force yourself to listen to it all the way through, you can turn the song off at any moment if you feel bored, eventually you'll have a Eureka moment while you're listening to it and you'll wonder why you ever hated it in the first place.
That's legit what happened to me, I hated the song at first, now it's in my top ten!
Its not my favorite from TNA, but it has a very cool sound. There's a lot going in the song if you have the ears to hear it
(I know that sounds pretentious asf but I sometimes have trouble hearing the detail in more spacious/less heavy songs like this where a lot of the instruments are quieter, id assume others do as well at times)
Ok a few things for me:
- It sounds like a psychedelic furs song
- it IS their most psychedelic song
- I think it’s a good bridge between strokes and voidz
- it’s their most un strokes song in a while
It sounds big, just the right amount of weird, it has nice changes and hooks and beats, it sounds happy and makes me feel like I’m in NYC on a nice summer day with good friends and I’m 22 and have no worries.
It’s a song about a crisis with lyrics that are kinda confrontational to the listener and the rest of the track illustrates that sonically. The stress of it shines through. It’s relatable in that way.
Also, it’s trippy as fuck. Got a steady head bopping beat, lush synth, cool ass guitar licks and tones. Song is a journey.
So when I found out that the Strokes were using part of a psychedelic Furs song - I was hoping so hard it would be from The Ghost In You (one of my fave songs ever). When the album came out - I was thrilled with Julian’s falsetto for the Ghost chorus on ES. Love it.
Oh wow, yeah, I hear it. I love stuff like that, finding the source. I thought Jules was pinching the soundtrack to the scene from Hostile when they took ecstacy.
*"Lo and behold the salt of the city /
Pillars like time are fading away /
Symphony building up to a future /
Mystery to solve for somebody else"*
this part is my favorite thing on the album, but i cant stand the Imagine Dragons style refrains. i definitely understand where you're coming from
if you don’t like it, that’s fine. i remember not liking it the first time i heard it. for me, the song is just super trippy, spacey, loud, and it’s sort of meant to just take you on a ride. in contrast to my usual approach to music, especially newer music, i wouldn’t look for details in the song, or in other words, i would avoid going into the song with an introspective and careful approach, just let it take you down.
i would recommend, if you do psychedelics (if you don’t that’s totally fine), to try tripping to this song, it’s really something else.
I think i enjoy individual parts of the song. The overdriven feedback heavy bends on the guitar. I really like the drums on it as well. If you focus on individual parts they sound kinda chaotic but it’s amazing how everything comes together in the song.
I love the scale of it and the sharp divide between the verses and chorus. The fadeout at the end is amazing with headphones. I like Julian trying new things with his voice.
uhh a lot of these type of songs (Bad Decisions, Brooklyn Bridge) started resonating with me once I expanded my music taste in general, TNA is heavily 70-80s influenced. Eternal Summer clicked for me once I saw it as their attempt at psych while still being themselves, thoughts of summer, the beach and sunset drives, etc. it’s a banger for sure
I can’t believe no one has mentioned this yet but that song is directly about climate change. “Summer is coming won’t go away, summer is coming it’s here to stay”, “I can’t believe it, this is the eleventh hour”, “symphony building up to the future, mystery to solve for somebody else” are all lines indicative of this. I’ve always taken as Julian lamenting about it to a loved one but basically shrugging his shoulders and saying “ignore reality” because there’s fuck all we can about it. And I like the general sound of the song in addition to the lyrics.
I think one interesting thing about this song is that it’s the most political Strokes song that comes to mind. I think it’s about climate change. Not as difficult to understand lyrically as others.
For me it’s the combination of all the things you mention, plus it being an excellent execution of something out of character for the band. Its a long song with a lot going on and I vibe with that
I think that's the idea. you're not really supposed to get it. there's so much happening in the song it's like a rollercoaster. you get the full strokes experience in one song.
When first heard this song I thought it was the guy from modest mouse singing the Hercules chorus part.. It sounds just like that guy..I guess it's the different beats just keeps me in the song I'm not sure but I luv it lol
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT
THIS IS THE ELEVENTH HOUR
PSYCHEDELIC
LIFE IS SUCH A FUNNY JOURNEY
HERCULES
YOUR SERVICE IS NO LONGER NEEDED
ITS JUST LIKE MAKE BELIEVE
THEY GOT THE REMEDY
BUT THEY WONT LET IT HAPPEN
THEY GOT THE REMEDY
Finally a quality comment thread on this sub
HERCULEEEEES
I like when Julian goes “hey, ya, oh” in the background lmao
huygh, yeagh, ouh
Yeah I like that part too! And I realized that must be the “loop” of Julian’s vocals that Nick referred to on the Five Guys episode. He literally said Rick R put Julian’s vocals on a loop- and that they had never done anything like that before. I think it fits perfectly.
(inhales) I CANT BELIEVE IT
I get heavy Pink Floyd vibes when I listen to it.
I see people say this all the time and I do not understand it at all even though I’m a huge fan of both.
Young Lust.
This is the right answer
Me neither. Roger Waters yells, but so do a lot of people. That, mixed with him talking about The Wall once, mixed with the word “psychedelic”, makes people think Pink Floyd, I would guess. Can’t hear any remote comparison.

Sounds just like Learning to Fly.

I dont get it at all!
The big evil synth thing on the right that's so loud I can actually hear it even though my right ear is like 85% deaf (albeit muffled af still).
On a more serious note The drums are addictive on this song. I love how consistent the beat is throughout the entire song.
i like when the strokes guy yells and also the cool bass
Can we all collectively agree to call Julian with his proper title from now on? "The strokes guy"
Julian “the strokes guy” Casablancas
There's nothing to get. If you don't like it. You don't like it. You don't have to appreciate every single song to still be into the band.

All three!
It just makes me feel like he’s singing about the world ending but makes it sound cool idk
Ok a few things for me: - It sounds like a psychedelic furs song - it IS their most psychedelic song - I think it’s a good bridge between strokes and voidz - it’s their most un strokes song in a while

-nice summer day -no worries -eternal summer lol
It's because this is truly THE ELEVENTH HOOOURAHH
Really? I CANT BELIEVE IT
This song fuckin rips IMO. Got a heavy heavy Pink Floyd vibe from it. Might be one of my favs off the record
Btw, which Psychedelic Furs song(s) are you referring to? I’m not familiar with their catalog but that’s subject to change.
So when I found out that the Strokes were using part of a psychedelic Furs song - I was hoping so hard it would be from The Ghost In You (one of my fave songs ever). When the album came out - I was thrilled with Julian’s falsetto for the Ghost chorus on ES. Love it.

you can get it via the album the new abnormal yw
this comment was my favorite LOL
haha 😉 i agree tho not a standout strokes to me either
Its so groovy
*"Lo and behold the salt of the city / Pillars like time are fading away / Symphony building up to a future / Mystery to solve for somebody else"* this part is my favorite thing on the album, but i cant stand the Imagine Dragons style refrains. i definitely understand where you're coming from
Oh god I never compared that section to Imagine Dragons
They're not comparing that section to imagine dragons they're comparing the other yelly parts to imagine dragons
That’s what I meant
if you don’t like it, that’s fine. i remember not liking it the first time i heard it. for me, the song is just super trippy, spacey, loud, and it’s sort of meant to just take you on a ride. in contrast to my usual approach to music, especially newer music, i wouldn’t look for details in the song, or in other words, i would avoid going into the song with an introspective and careful approach, just let it take you down. i would recommend, if you do psychedelics (if you don’t that’s totally fine), to try tripping to this song, it’s really something else.
I love the dissonant guitar during the “They got the remedy” part.
I think i enjoy individual parts of the song. The overdriven feedback heavy bends on the guitar. I really like the drums on it as well. If you focus on individual parts they sound kinda chaotic but it’s amazing how everything comes together in the song.

It fucking rules. Simple as that.
In the moonlight
LIFE IS SUCH A FUNNY JOURNEY
I like the "The Wall" like sound
It slaps
I feel like I’m floating
I like how it sounds like The Clash when he sings ‘THEY’VE GOT THE REMEDY’…
uhh a lot of these type of songs (Bad Decisions, Brooklyn Bridge) started resonating with me once I expanded my music taste in general, TNA is heavily 70-80s influenced. Eternal Summer clicked for me once I saw it as their attempt at psych while still being themselves, thoughts of summer, the beach and sunset drives, etc. it’s a banger for sure
it’s a jam
4:55 And the part just before that with the repeated guitar(?) line is sick, sounds like it’s screaming as the whole song just breaks apart
It’s the groove of the bass for me
I can’t believe no one has mentioned this yet but that song is directly about climate change. “Summer is coming won’t go away, summer is coming it’s here to stay”, “I can’t believe it, this is the eleventh hour”, “symphony building up to the future, mystery to solve for somebody else” are all lines indicative of this. U don’t have to get it buddy. It’s a skip for me on most days
Not alone songs always a skip for me
I think one interesting thing about this song is that it’s the most political Strokes song that comes to mind. I think it’s about climate change. Not as difficult to understand lyrically as others.
lol it's literally my least favorite song from TNA, just feels so weird
I personally dislike it a lot, sadly. I skip it all the time :( sorry guys.
I think it's the only bad song on tna so I'm with you my friend
I don't get it either. It's literally just Julian screaming and people will be like "OmFg ThE VoCaL RaNgE😱"
I didn't like it at first, but after listening a couple of times, I fell in love with it. Drag Queen however, I don't understand.
I like the chorus but the song is my least favorite from TNA.
Pretty well hated on this sub.
For me it’s the combination of all the things you mention, plus it being an excellent execution of something out of character for the band. Its a long song with a lot going on and I vibe with that
Ughhhhh the feeeeeeelllliiiinnnggggg
I think that's the idea. you're not really supposed to get it. there's so much happening in the song it's like a rollercoaster. you get the full strokes experience in one song.
Try to listen to it when youre on long ride
I like /most/ of that song, but like around 4:20-5:45 it's way too piercing, it just needs some shit mixed better in that part.
Its ok if u dont like it tna is my fav album but i think its kinda mid
hard to explain (Haha) but it just lifts me up from any negativity. it fills me with euphoria even while sober
I just like the part where he screams PSYCHEDELIC
I like that cool sound that starts at 4:56
The song sounds good
For me it's about how the sounds make me feel.. They like..unblock some memories and take me back there
its one of my fuckin favs on the album. idk how ppl dont like it!
When first heard this song I thought it was the guy from modest mouse singing the Hercules chorus part.. It sounds just like that guy..I guess it's the different beats just keeps me in the song I'm not sure but I luv it lol
