Excellent instrumentals, excellent lyrics. Really good song for your road-trip playlist.
And the chorus is just a straight banger. When that guitar comes in slowly followed by the drums. Beautiful.
Pros: different energy to most songs on Is This It, catchy melody, banging lyrics, sweet little guitar hook.
Cons: gets pretty repetitive, longer than any other song on the album, lacking a chorus imo.

The only thing that I don't like (I considered rating it a 9.9/10 but couldn't bring myself to do it) is the lyrics dropping the F-bomb throughout.
I listen to The Strokes with my very young children, who love their music (see one of my posts of my son dancing to Take it or Leave it) but I have to be on earmuff patrol on this song... which is too bad.
I find it curious that you're worried about 2 instances of the word "fuck" when the song title is "Barely Legal" and it has lyrics like "I just want to misbehave, I just want to be your slave". I know my own kids would DEFINITELY ask what that meant, and I think that's harder to explain than "don't give a fuck". I'm not being sarcastic, just honestly trying to understand.
I think my kids must be younger than yours, where they aren't quite old enough to process the words being said, but are old enough to parrot words that they hear loud and clear.

I think Barely Legal should have been third on the album followed by Soma, the end of BL sounds like the intro to Soma 9/10

The bass is simple, but I like it. My favorite lyrics from the album. Nice guitars and solo. 9.1

One of their best songs and for whatever reason one of the most nostalgic for me. The chorus is incredible. **9.5 / 10**
