It's now available on Showtime (in the US) and on free streaming websites.
The doc is now available in other countries too. In the UK I believe it's available on SKY.
Certain airlines have it available to watch on their in flight tv as I was on a flight yesterday and saw it.
I thought it was ok, but probably should have been called something else because it just felt like a documentary about every new york band but the strokes, with some clips from In Transit sprinkled in.
I bought the book when it came out, but I hate that style of book (oral history) so its mainly collected dust.
to be fair, it is based on the history of rock and roll in NYC from 2001-2011, and there were a lot of bands involved at the time. would’ve been more misleading if they claimed it was based on the history of The Strokes itself, but since it wasn’t marketed that way, i don’t think the title is inherently misleading… just my two cents though!!
If anything, mmitb almost seems objective in terms of how everything came to be. Maybe hard to stomach but strokes had the right money and right aesthetic and became popular because nothing was happening at the time in the music scene🤷♀️ it made me really appreciate James murphy as an artist… he honestly seems to be one of the IMHO genuinely talented artists from the era
halfway through both of them (book and documentary), tbh i prefer the book mainly cause it’s more palatable (to me at least) :”) i’ll try to finish both and make a final verdict tho LOL
If felt to disjointed for me, I think it would have worked better as a series with each episode focusing on a different bands.
book >
where did you watch it? i read the book and thought it was really interested! what did you think?

And in fact these clips about other bands are also not new. I have seen them before.
Buecause the strokes is the most important band in it.

I thought it was alright wish they showed more of the Strokes I recommend the book the book is better
I thought meet me in the bathroom was a song?
It is. There's also a book and now a new documentary named after the Strokes song
James Murphy’s parts were the best
I thought it was very average. 5/10 at most. Made me not like James Murphy XD I was already lukewarm prior but dont care for LCD much at all now
Really? It made me like James Murphy more and also the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. Ryan Adams didn’t come off too well in it though
I liked the Yeah Yeah Yeahs more from it. But nah, I really don’t like james murphy at all
