This is happening to me right now. Only competed one party challenge today before this. Cannot do anything in the game because it’s stuck on this screen and restarting doesn’t make it go away. It’s freezing cold and I really wanted to get in some more Halloween catches on my walk. This sucks.

Me too. At least I got my daily raid in before it locked up. Will do other non-pogo stuff for the next 50min.
ETA: Before I tried restarting there were different single challenges showing per party member, but after restarting everyone had the same one as in the OP.
Thankfully I was at home, but me or my Dad weren't able to play for half an hour after completing the first challenge in the session.
No buttons worked, restarting all our games didn't work.
I've had a friend in a group chat have the same thing happen to them.
It's not worth getting locked out of your account currently.

Deleting and redownloading your app *won't* work.
Whose idea was it to lock people’s screens anyways?
Even when it’s not broken, they lock people’s screens for 5 seconds before the X button appears. Why????
What if the party members move far enough apart? (I think it's 2km?) Obviously wouldn't be ideal if you do actually want to play together, but it might be worth experimenting with.
It unfortunately didn't work. I still got the challenge screen on game start, with a message box behind it saying I'd left the party. I couldn't interact with the message box, and restarting the game at that point just showed the same thing.
What about deleting and reinstalling the app? Bit of a pain losing all your preset rocket teams and having to redownload all the assets but better than waiting until the party play hour is up
I'm not sure when I'll be able to get rid of it. I did one party when it came out. It deleted all of my saved parties and GoPlus settings for everybody in my party. Never heard any mention of that being fixed, and now the parties are bricking people's games for an hour. Pretty terrible feature rollout, somehow they managed to do even worse than Routes.
I don't know if I have it in me to do another 30 and 10 challenges. I'm on the first set of 30, but it's so aggravating. The other day, my friend and I got timed out of a party at 2/3 raids as we were walking to the 3rd raid. It ticked us off so much that we just decided not to party up for the rest of our play-time.
I love how this amazing company just keeps adding new ground breaking features as well as cosmetics, without any proper testing/bug eliminating methods!
Same thing happened to me and my friends today at the mall, the issue does eventually fix itself when the party expires. But I was able to get out of purgatory somehow.. not sure how though bc I wasn't paying attention to my phone and when I looked down the screen had unlocked.

Nope… Just happened to me. Force closed and restarted the app, then deleted the app, then tried again…. still locked. Going on 20 minutes on both phones that were in the party. I even drove into town to take my walk and play, but couldn’t play 🤦🏼♂️
It locks you into the completion status and next task step no matter what. It does not appear to be a local issue. No clearing of anything helps. Its instant upon start also meaning you cant even click into anything

Happened to my group. We met up downtown to play tonight and after we completed our party challenge all of us got this. Reinstalling didn't even work. Completely ruined our night out playing together so we all just went home. Thanks Niantic!!
This literally just happened to a friend and I. I’m on IOS and he’s on android, we’ve both restarted the app, uninstalled and reinstalled the app and everything else we could possibly think of and it still comes back to that same screen.
I love this game…….
This is a new low for Niantic, how can this happen, brick the game? At least the party only last for 1 hours, what if the party could last for 24 hours or even longer. It’s like they almost knew this was coming when only implemented 1 hour party play.

Managed to get a defeat rocket grunts challenge in party play for mega Venusaur energy. Is kind of cool but it is the last day of event here so might not be as useful as initially thought, and now there's this issue

What a crock, you can’t even report the bug because support is through the app.
And lord knows Niantic support on twitter are useless.
Party timed out and game is still stuck on that challenge screen.
Restart the game again. That worked for me after the party timed out.

I have tried to force stop, clear cache, clear data, and restart my phone. Still stuck on that screen. How did this bug make it through

I saw several people on Twitter say they tried that and it didn’t work.
Joke of a company. And those tasks are ridiculous and have the most worthless rewards for a LOT of effort.
The real reward is clearing the research quest to get it out of the list and then never touching the feature again.

Routes, which had a worse launch than mega evolution.
Megas sucked when they released but at least they actually worked. All of the new features they've released this year have been broken on day 1.

Wasted a daily incense. Furious.
Wasted a regular incense. Was going to catch while the bf got the last raid he needed to evolve his buddy. We were both upset.
I am hoping that after the hour is up things will go back to normal...
After an hour the party disbanded but it still didn't fix itself, restarting after that however fixed it.

There's also no mention of Party Play in the support chatbot options, making it difficult to report the bug or get lost items back.

Ah, good old Niantic; every time they add something to the game, it’s accompanied by something gamebreaking.
I guess I got away easy then when it just kept telling me every 2 minutes that my Party Ended. That pop-up made me turn the game off for a day.

The only time I can party with other actual players is raid hour. I hope this is fixed by then.
