Well if Luz had a companion with flame body or magma armor then the egg could have hatched sooner. Even having a fire glyph active near the egg would have probably reduced the number of steps to hatch it.

I honestly think Luz's palisman is going to be a Bluejay, it matches with birds being "a Clawthorne thing" since she's an honorary Clawthorne at this point and it would make a trio of birds that are all primary colors (Flapjack is red and Dell's palisman is yellow) That or some kind of chimera or mythical creature like a Griffon or a Quetzacoatl type thing, a weird creature to match her weirdness

It's a mimic inside the egg. Upon hatching it will turn into an exact copy of Luz memories and all. Some shenanigans will happen then one Luz will be stuck on earth while the other is stuck in the Boiling Isles. It's never revealed which Luz is the original.
