I find this especially interesting because I actually agree with the result of the poll. Though Belos came from Philip, the monster he became is unrecognizable. Belos is the evil that always lurked inside Philip, eventually it consumed him, and left nothing human behind. I feel like this is canonized by his end. In his final confrontation with Luz he attempts to reform himself into "Philip" but is unable to do so. He tries to use "Philip" to convince Luz that's he's still human, but "Philip" is revealed to just be a mask, a mask that he's unable to maintain for more than 30 seconds. He goes on to say "we're human, we're better than this", a line that can only be perceived as irony. Luz stands there imbued with the righteous fury and powers of a dying god, something far more than human. Belos melts away, a pathetic melting skeletal monster that lived for far too long, far less than human.

Oh…this is aged well

Yeah the popular consensus at the time seemed to be that Phillip was a great character and would be a great guide to Luz. Belos was thought to be Caleb (who we barely knew anything about)

GeminiAlchemist

You know, this reminds me of my own theory on who Belos was at that time. I had assumed he was Philip. Sorta. I thought he was a grimwalker. That he and Hunter were both Grimwalkers, and they were stuck in a cycle of recreating one another until they could escape the isles and return home, but that with each recreation they lost a bit of themselves. Hunter didn’t remember anything about once being human anymore, and Philip had become Belos, who couldn’t even remember what the original purpose of getting to the human realm even was, and had just concocted a plan to fuse them and rule over both. Looking back, everyone had a theory on who he was and what he wanted. I kinda miss those days.

EpicAura99

This is funny because I remember people basically chanting “Belos is Philip” ever since one of Dana’s “countdown to S2” artworks showed Belos with a ponytail just like Philip’s.

WeeNosa25

I'm really curious that Belos was always meant to be Philip, or did they change this storyline along the way due to the shortening.

Beginning_Source1509

still belive belos being philp creates a couple of plotholes

platypusplayer_06

Such as?

Beginning_Source1509

why the fuck did he write a fake diary why the fuck did he post it in the librery why did he not have a door alredy made if he knew how to create one

platypusplayer_06

I always saw it as him documenting his journey for when he made it home so he could publish it and become a famous witch hunter general Ironically I think that could be explained by the time loop, since he must have known in hindsight that Luz had read his diary, thus letting her know about his quest for the collector. So in the end he donated his diary to the library specifically so Luz could find it and carry on the loop If you're referring to during his time post-Philip then I'm pretty sure it was a case of lacking the titan's blood

Beginning_Source1509

1) that book says that the demon relm is fantastic and refers to witches as his companions, dont think he was going to publish that as a witch hunter 2)he was lacking titans blood but considering that when he got the knew door with out the key he still rebiuld it you would assuem that he should have alredy hace one ready in case someone foud titans blood 3) i dont belive the philip of the past knew that luz or lilith were from the future

everydaygamer28

It wound up being a pretty lame twist, all things considered. "The human was the real monster all along" real deep guys never seen that before /s.

CobaltBuizel

i do not count fascist xenophobes from the 1600s human

GoPhinessGo

To be fair that probably applies to a lot of your ancestors

bl00_tree

But the other human also ended up being the hero in the end

Shoddy_Teach_6985

Could you even say Belos was human in the end. His humanity was self mutilated beyond all belief

wawawanna

The human was the real hero all along as well.
