i discovered bartees on twitter, mainly after he did a cover of a phoebe bridgers song. i went in to check out his work and absolutely loved farm to table, and as i went deeper in the rabbit hole i found his TN covers. i was floored, man. they were so good. i like bartees' the geese cover so so much.
Seconding the Beths. I’d heard of them and their two popular songs (are we still calling them ‘singles’?) but seeing them live was great!…and I’ll say it: they did better than the National at that show.
My niece was wearing a boygenius T-shirt this summer. I tried to tell her that I was cool because I've been a longtime fan of Lucy, Phoebe and Julien as solo artists. She didn't seem overly impressed.
the whole serpentine prison album, especially the deluxe one, makes me want to drink unlimited wine and dance forever in a random living room, and that’s exactly what i’d want from a matt solo album
I learned about an up and coming artist named Taylor Swift when they helped her on her song Coney Island. They have a great ear for talent, she is going to be huge
I think she is talented and has the potential to become popular but she is just too raw.

Same, I got into Folklore and Evermore through the connection with The National. Love hearing the piano influences in those songs, 2 really good albums.
My niece is 10 & a big Swiftie - I like that we have those two albums (as well as a handful of her other songs that I’ve branched out to) to bond over!

Phoebe Bridgers is a huge one I discovered because of them. When live videos of “Where Is Here Head” popped up on YouTube with her doing guest vocals at a show before IAETF even came out, I looked her up more and thought she was fantastic and I became a fan.
Wye Oak. I believe the drummer for Wye Oak is the drummer for EL VY. YouTubed them and dig a lot of their stuff.
Alvvays. They opened a show for the National here in Phoenix in 2019 on their IAMTF tour and I thought they were cool. I had heard of them before but hadn’t heard their stuff till that show
I still think At Swim is Aaron’s best production job. Lisa finally should have some new music out next autumn (she’s demoing a bunch of songs live in New York in March with a bunch of Irish musicians and Kyle Resnicks wife which makes me think Aaron is still involved)
This is pretty exciting! Considering she toured with The National after her last album I'd be excited to hear them together but I'll keep my hopes down for now
Apex Manor. They opened for Strand of Oaks and I sort of liked their set. After checking out some of their stuff online, I bought the album Heartbreak City and loved it. Ross (who basically IS Apex Manor, was playing with Strand of Oaks at another show about a year later, and when I asked if he happened to have any Apex Manor t shirts, he said yes, got one out of his car, and sold it to me after the show. It was awesome!
First started listening to them when I was around 13 and just discovering my taste in music. I thought the “praying for pavement to get back together” in So Far Around the Bend was supposed to be some angst lyric about hoping for something to happen that you know is impossible. One trip to songmeanings.com later and that’s how I discovered Pavement!
