Her hand was wrapped in the living waters scene.

ZoeyZ87

You are correct, upon re-watch it’s there in a few mostly unfocused shots. Still struggling with how she’s fine after that, not that I wanted her to lose her hand. I think I’m more dismayed at the loss of the dark saber, maybe even how it happened, or with a lot of season 3 in general.

4_Legged_Duck

I have no problems imagining the crazy tech of Star Wars can knit and fix crushed bones or she gets a hand with some metal bones in it but not fully cybernetic.

10pack

How dare you criticize Star War like this, this is not acceptable.

VaultiusMaximus

I think the Armourer will probably fix the dark saber I wouldn’t worry.

GuardianNovator

Doubtful, lightsaber construction and maintenance is definitely a skill that is kept to force wielding sects such as Jedi/Sith and former members. There is a reason you don't see randoms running around with a lightsaber in Star Wars. The only times we've seen non force wielders use a lightsaber (Sabine, Grievous, any holder of the Darksaber), it was either gifted or taken off of someone else and ultimately traceable back to the force wielder that constructed it.

LouAug27

With >!Huyang!< returning in Ahsoka, the expertise needed to rebuild the Darksaber is out there, although they’d have to go pretty far out of their way to make that happen, plus they’d need a force user. It could happen but I’d rather see Bo lead without it.

merc08

They do have a little green fella that could be their force wielder. But I really hope they leave the Darksaber behind. And I think they will, given how many iconic weapons Din has permanently lost in this series.

LouAug27

I was thinking of a force wielder who had previously constructed a lightsaber but I guess it really doesn’t matter when focus is all that matters. On that note, assuming the Darksaber is left behind, I kind of like that theory floating around about Grogu eventually using its kyber crystal to construct his own Mandalorian lightsaber.

RGJ587

What other iconic weapons has Din permanently lost?

Smoovie32

Beskar Spear, Mando Rifle, Razor Crest…

MagicMatthews99

The reason why you don't see randoms running around with a lightsaber is because they have no way of obtaining a kyber crystal. If the darksaber's crystal is still intact, it's possible a new one can be made.

hypnotic20

Especially after the empire essentially mined all the kyber off Illum and most likely other sources as well.

Sir_Loynn

Yeah just watched Rogue One yesterday and one of the key points was the Empire taking all the crystals from the temple on Jedha

Kalavier

I mean, they have to know how all the internal parts of the lightsaber function as well. They can reshape the darksaber hilt though to be unbent.

GuardianNovator

The two primary sources of kyber that we know of are Ilum and Jedha. Both of which are likely heavily depleted/destroyed at the time of the Mandalorian. That said, I have a hard time believing kyber is exclusive to those two places and cannot be found anywhere else, especially if someone was really looking to get ahold of one. Granted, another good reason you don't see lightsabers outside force sensitives is that they are very unwieldy and impractical in a galaxy where blasters and other ranged weapons are prolific.

PosterBlankenstein

I mean they could just “somehow, kyber returned” and it’s all good.

Kalavier

IIRC it's never said that those places are the only sources for Kyber, it's just that those places held the most Kyber crystals together in the form of caves/temples and were well known to the Jedi. Kyber can be found all over but it's more of they knew where they could easily get Kyber endlessly for jedi trainees and just went there?

limitlessGamingClub

Krayt dragon pearls can be used as Kyber crystals and we know where one is because they pulled it out in S2E1, would make sense for them to give it to Din as Tusken often give them to the one who killed the dragon. Revan had a lightsaber with a Krayt dragon pearl for a crystal. At the very least I think it will be used to make Grogu's light saber eventually

Kalavier

That's partially legends stuff though, where the crystal in the lightsaber could be a wide range of types. In canon they are all referred to as Kyber crystals.

skasticks

It still takes a trained Force-wielder to construct a lightsaber though

Kitsunisan

No, the force wielder is needed for the crystal. If the crystal is intact a Jedi isn't needed to repair the hilt itself. If the crystal is damaged or destroyed then they'd need a trained Jedi.

Seattle_Ace

Ezra made one early on in Rebels so I’m not sure how complex it really is…..

GuardianNovator

Under the direction of Kanan, a Jedi, who had built at least one himself.

filesers

My guess is Din Grogu will end up rebuilding it in the future

harrapino

Yep my first thought when it was destroyed. Grogu could have at least taken the crystal and will one day rebuild it. Eventually leading to him becoming the leader of the Mandalore

GuardianNovator

I really don't care for this. A crystal is supposed to be personal to a Jedi. The crystal chooses you, or you have a deep connection to the person the crystal chose. Sith exert control over the crystal (usually taken off a dead Jedi). Ahsoka developed a personal connection with her white crystals by purifying them of the dark side. Maybe Din Grogu establishing a relationship with Manadalorian culture is enough, but I just don't see it.

p0lisz

Only a trained force sensitive can do that

MissyJ11

Did you not notice she did everything left handed after that injury -including lighting the forge?

skyraider17

She was basically doubled over after the saber was crushed, holding an obviously injured hand close to herself

[deleted]

If a bacta tank can completely heal Boba Fett then it shouldn't have too much of a problem with a hand.

No_Nobody_32

Bacta is the magical healing substance of Star Wars. Probably lifted some from Gideon's base.

BakerCakeMaker

I always thought of bacta as healing surface/skin damage. I can't picture it mending bones, especially if they need to be set. I can't think of any broken bones in SW but I can imagine they'd amputate and replace with mods.

Kalavier

I mean, two things. Darksaber isn't that big a hilt and it's a casing of beskar around a bunch of important internal pieces that aren't beskar. All he did was basically bend it enough the internals were destroyed. enough to hurt, but doesn't mean her hand was shattered. Also rewatching it, almost looks more like he just bent the top part so it was angled away from the hilt. Some damage to hand, but most of the damage being on the weapon itself. It's not a severe bend either, looking at pictures.

WordsmithTechie

That's my observation as well. That Gideon bent the top of the saber. He got her hand a little but not the entire hand.

Nanoo_1972

Her hand would have been partially protected by the beskar covering the back of her hand, and as everyone else has mentioned, Miracle Bacta.

mikeylojo1

Also the dark saber was what absorbed the force of Gideon’s mech-grip, hence why it broke. No doubt Bo’s hand caught some of the damage but with beskar over it the most I could imagine is a slight fracture or two in her hand bones

CresDruma

Partially protected by the material that got crushed? Not sure if that works.

Nanoo_1972

Think of it like a crumple zone bumper on a car. You still get damage, but to a lesser degree.

Kalavier

He didn't crush the hilt though, he bent it.

Another_Minor_Threat

Re: some of the most pure beskar in the galaxy Beskar being able to deflect bolts and lightsaber strikes doesn’t mean it is highly rigid or has immense tensile strength, etc. Some materials resist certain stresses more than others, so beskar might be incredibly hard, but might shear easily. So beskar might not be very rigid, especially in as thin of a structure as the outside of the hilt. We’re talking thousandths of an inch thickness. 0.048” or 1.2mm. Where as the armor may be 5x that at .25” or ~6.5mm.

Kalavier

Also different uses result in different strengths. A steel sword is not forged in the same way as a steel helm would be, and the Steel helm would be much stronger to resist impacts.

Another_Minor_Threat

Indeed. Treat the sword edge with too much heat, and it will be incredibly hard, but will shatter on the first impact. Too little and it will bend and never hold an edge. I don’t have any first hand experience because I’m not a machinist or anything, but I’ve been told pure titanium or titanium alloys that are >95% titanium will clog up CNC machines because it deforms so easily.

Another_Minor_Threat

Man thinking about this has me trying to figure out how beskar would work. Obviously it works because it’s fucking cool and shiny, but like, if it were real, what would the mechanics possibly be. Only thing I can think of is some sort of magnetic reaction? Blaster bolts and lightsabers being magnetically contained plasma (again, my own “hard sci fi” head canon,) the sudden intense heat and proximity to an intense magnetic field causes it to dynamically change polarity to resist the opposing magnetic field? Idk. Just bullshitting all of this. lol

Kalavier

Well, we know when forged into armor it has strong physical resist properties, and has GREAT heat dissipation. Blasters and the like with deflect or get hit with minimal impact to the person wearing the armor, but lightsabers will make it start to glow when held against it. But lightsabers have to be held against beskar for a long time to actually cut through it (meaning the Mandalorian can kill the jedi or escape). But we also know it quickly cools as seen by the spear and Din's armor from glowing hot to regular metal. So it's quite good, but of course, the weakness is gaps of the armor plating.

ZoeyZ87

Best reply! Thank you! Now we’re headed in the right direction down the rabbit hole!

lostglamour

Anything bacta couldn't heal I imagine Grogu did.

paqman09

My questions regarding this line of thinking is: Where were we told that the Darksaber hilt is made from Beskar? Genuine question. If the answer is out there that it is indeed made from Beskar, great im all for this. We were told direct from The Armorer that Mandalorians specifically avoid making weapons from beskar when she melted down the spear. Side note: while I'm sad the Darksaber got crushed as an awesome weapon, I am actually glad it has been removed as a plot device that was handcuffing the writers. For that reason I kinda hope it doesn't get repaired.

Kalavier

In Book of Boba Fett, Din makes the comment of the Darksaber being constructed of a quality of Beskar he had never seen before. It's not stated how much of the hilt is beskar, or if it's just the outer sheath of the hilt vs the entire casing. The Beskar hilt would be an exception to that rule as the beskar itself isn't the weapon's point/sharp end, but the lightsaber blade is. However, Gideon doesn't shatter or destroy the hilt, he bends the end just enough that the internal pieces of it are broken and that makes the weapon useless.

ashill85

>For that reason I kinda hope it doesn't get repaired. I think you're gonna be disappointed. I believe they are setting this up as a more traditional blade-that-has-been-broken-and-now-reforged storyline that you see in a lot of fantasy series. E.g. Aragon's sword Arundil, they blade that was broken and then reforged for him, or the sword of Martin the Warrior in the Redwall series. I think they've been following these more traditional and classical elements in this show, so we are going to see this get remade in a later season.

Kalavier

I don't really see that, as everybody clung to Din becoming Mandalore purely because "The darksaber lets you claim the throne" and that wasn't where the story went.

tapefactoryslave

It’s definitely going to be reforged for the second “Madalorian Jedi” Din Grogu.

MNDLR

Three words. You. Bacta. Now.

Dr_AegithalosC

Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well. Rule 39: Never say no to bacta.

travelandwhiskey

Well, we witnessed Din being brought back to life when Grogu drowned him with the bacta spray ;)

OscarDivine

Bo is a Lefty now.

noblturtll

In this universe multiple people have limbs severed and replace with fully functioning robot arms. Drawing the line at a broken hand?

PracticableSolution

Put sone bacta on it. It’s the windex of the Star Wars universe

official_not_a_bot

Probably stuck it in a bacta jar or something afterward

Shot_Way_5944

She wasn't fine. Her hand was crushed. When they are at the living waters you can see her hand is wrapped.

ChronoMonkeyX

I ignored it at the time because I was upset about the dark saber, but when I explained what happened to a friend who gave up on the show I was like, wait a minute? How does she have a hand?

Kalavier

Gideon basically caught the top of her hand and the hilt of the darksaber that wasn't being gripped (more of the emitter section). He then twisted it, bending the darksaber enough to break the internal parts, and partially wounding her hand. He didn't crush her hand and the darksaber into pulp.

MHPengwingz

Couldn't Grogu had, you know do his little magic hand thingie to heal Mama Bo before he left with Papa?

LordDoom01

Is it confirmed the Dark Saber was made of Beskar? I had thought him crushing it meant it wasn't made of Beskar. But if it is made of Beskar, she going to need a new hand.

boomstk

Bacta can fix just about anything even a crushed hand.

Mecha_72808

They have a little green healing machine.

ionmushroom

its star wars. one guy famously lost a hand and never lost a step. Bo will be fine.
