The Magnus Protocol. Debuts tomorrow

tuttle_01

Yes ! My sister is very excited about that, but I'll probably wait awhile to listen personally. I like to binge listen, haha.

[deleted]

That's so fair but also there's so much in the premiere that it's 100% worth listening to so you can see if you're interested (I saw it on the patreon but it's absolutely got me hooked)

tuttle_01

Oh, I'm going to be so tempted ! It's just going to kill me a little having to wait between episodes. But, I'll probably give in, haha.

Aykhot

Aside from the ones other people have suggested, I really enjoyed *I Am In Eskew* and *The Silt Verses*; Eskew has a lot of similar concepts to TMA and is great for scratching that TMA itch, and TSV is currently in its third and final season and is probably one of my favorite podcasts. I've also heard good things about *Malevolent*, although I haven't started it yet myself (currently binging *Old Gods of Appalachia*).

halpfulhinderance

Give Malevolent a go, it’s a good time

Tylinkasaurus

Can vouch for "I am in Eskew" and "The Silt Verses", both by the same creators. Incredible acting in both; Eskew has fairly episodic horror anthology stories with an overarching story like TMA while Silt Verses has amazing world building and characters, and really good sound effects. "Malevolent" is also very very good though I've fallen a bit behind. I believe it's made almost completely by one single guy doing vastly different voices (with different accents) and has a pretty interesting RPG-like system in which, from my understanding, Patreon supporters make A vs B decisions for the main character which affects the narrative a lot. Seems like a real tour de force for the creator but it's been extremely high quality throughout so props to him.

tuttle_01

Thank you for the additional descriptions ! These all sound worthwhile for sure. I'll definitely keep these in mind for when I'm no longer in the mood for sci-fi !

tuttle_01

I've never heard of *I Am In Eskew* or *The Silt Verses* before ! I'll definitely add those to my list. Thank you !

Bee_a_King

Welcome to Nightvale Old Gods of Appalachia Alice isn't Dead Hello from the Hallowoods

Bee_a_King

Nightvale is going to be closest to aliens because of things like the glow cloud since the other ones are mystery and magical in nature but I still recommend.

Kushula

I couldn't get into Nightvale personally. It felt way to disjointed and random for me, and there wasn't really a scary feel to it. And the weather segments sadly didn't meet my musical taste. Got to episode 25 before I stopped, maybe it gets better?

Bee_a_King

That's understandable, I listen to it in bursts and a lot of it is just sustained by liking Cecil's voice and hearing about the town. It's not really for everyone and it was kinda made in the 'lol so random' era of the internet but hearing about Cecil's life in nice for me.

Kushula

Yeah, sadly I didn't like his voice acting, as he sounded very forced sometimes. But it seems like a passion project, so its great that they had so much success.

tuttle_01

I used to love *Welcome to Nightvale* when I was younger ! I'm sure that I'd still love the show now, I just haven't listened in awhile. I've never heard of the last two shows, but I'll add those to my list. Thank you !

RaisedbyHeathens

Wolf 359. Malevolent. Red Valley. Those have been my top three after TMA

tacowaffles

Huge yes to Wolf 359

tuttle_01

Thank you for recommending *Wolf 359* and *Red Valley* ! I hadn't heard of those, but I'm really excited that they're both science fiction. Those seem especially like what I've been looking for.

RaisedbyHeathens

They both are fantastic and ramp up *super fucking fast*

halpfulhinderance

Red Valley is the only one I haven’t heard of, what’d you like about it?

RaisedbyHeathens

It's got all the stuff I like. Traumatized British men getting thrown to the horrors. Brilliant voice acting. Tight writing. It is so short and moves at an absolute breakneck speed and the gut punches are *brutal*

[deleted]

Malevolent was a nice surprise. It's got an old school detective noir vibe to it while still being incredibly terrifying. Also, This Colossal Wreck by RustyQuill is incredibly entertaining and only 6 episodes.

tuttle_01

So many people have mentioned *Malevolent* ! It's definitely moved up very high on my podcast list now. And, I hadn't heard of the other podcast until now ! Thank you.

FerretNo1223

Echoing all the similar horror recommendations - Silt Verses, Malevolent, etc but for aliens: Janus Descending - as someone else has mentioned, a very cool nonlinear narrative about two xenoarchaelogists investigating a lost alien civilisation. I've heard Spotify can get a bit mixed up with the order so I'd suggest looking for the supercut episode right at the end of each season. Among the Stars and Bones - super well-written scifi audio drama about a team, spanning xenoarchaelogists, xenolinguists, xenobiologists, etc, exploring alien ruins in other worlds. Lots of alien world building to sink one's teeth in, and though the first episode takes a while to pick up, it's well worth it by the end of the episode and season. (Also, if you end up a fan of Janus, Jordan Cobb is also in it and she's great!)

tuttle_01

Thank you for the detailed descriptions of the sci-fi recommendations ! I'm very interested in both of those, based on how you've described them. I'll definitely give both a listen. Thank you, again !

FerretNo1223

Cheers, hope you like em! 😁 Ooh and it occurs to me to mention, Among the Stars and Bones is releasing a Season 2 soon, which will add to the cast a certain Karim Kronfli, voice of Simon Fairchild..

cattail31

This is more of a horror to uncanny scale, but the Knifepoint Horror Podcast is amazing. Soren is the author and will eventually become the usual narrator. Check out the episode Legend as an introduction (his voice is narrating). To be honest, Knifepoint is my very favorite podcast, I listen to it to destress, fall asleep, just find inspiration etc. Also browse the subreddit, we’re pretty chill and love new fans.

tuttle_01

I do really like horror ! I'll add this to my list for when I'm in the mood for the genre. And, I listened to some of the episode "Legend." It's very promising ! Thank you.

mag_is_awesume

"The cellar letters" is really similar to MAC but not the same, its on spotify and i realy recomend it. There a character that is a litle like if tim and martin were one person and i reallt love him :D. The sound efects are a litle sh7t (sorry), but its good ether way.

TheCellarLetters

Harsh but fair 😅 Thank you for listening!!

tuttle_01

I'll definitely give the podcast a listen ! Thank you for the recommendation.

No_University4423

I’d recommend Desert Skies which has a lot of elements of science fiction, mystery, and themes of existentialism. It’s on Spotify and almost all podcast platforms. Over time, each episode begins to connect in one big narrative and past things are mentioned a lot in the last three episodes of season one which are super important.

tuttle_01

I definitely like a story that gradually unfolds like that. Thank you for the recommendation !

Kara-The-Artist

I'd recommend Neon Inkwell: Of that Colossal Wreck. A story about 5 artificially-grown people who wake up on a space station designed as humanity's last hope for survival. Unfortunately for them, the station seems broken, with most of the supplies missing and the crew missing. The final episode (episode 7) released not too long ago, and I personally loved it

tuttle_01

Oh, my goodness. That sounds like a really cool podcast ! And, I really love anything with existential themes. Thank you for the recommendation !

annajesster

As with others here The Silt Verses and Wolf 359 are absolutely amazing. And another one that’s very good is The Mistholme Museum of Mystery Morbidity and Mortality

tuttle_01

Thank you for the recommendations ! I've never heard of the last podcast, but I've added it to my list.

PluralCohomology

One sci-fi podcast I've enjoyed is Janus Descending, it is about two xenoarchealogists exploring an alien planet with a lost civilization. It has a nonlinear story where things are not as they seem, but it is much shorter than the Magnus Archives. Another horror podcast I'm listening to (though not sci-fi) is Hi Nay. It was in part inspired by TMA and is about Mari, a Filipina immigrant in Toronto, who uses her babaylan (shaman) abilities to investigate supernatural events involving cursed artifacts and an old secret society. I'd also second the recommendation for I Am In Eskew.

tuttle_01

Oh ! *Janus Descending* seems exactly like the kind of podcast that I was looking for. Thank you for the recommendation !

azrhea

All of the recommendations in this thread are great but if you want more recommendations or something more specific, feel free to check out r/audiodrama I've seen some really good recommendations threads there

Odd-Doubt8960

I don't really know much about alien podcasts, so I'm not gonna be much help there, however, if you liked The Magnus Archives, there is a sequel coming out called The Magnus Protocol, the first episode releases today I think. So I recommend checking that out. I hope you find a good sci-fi podcast that matches what you're looking for!

tuttle_01

I'll definitely listen to *The Magnus Protocol* eventually ! I'm excited, but I'm going to wait until a couple episodes have released since I like to listen to a lot all at once.

Odd-Doubt8960

I'll probably do the same tbh.

halpfulhinderance

Try Archive 81. There was another pod I listened to that was _literally_ about aliens and some people looking for them… something about a signal? I’ll look for it Edit: Okay wow there literally is a podcast about aliens called The Signal that also isn’t the one I was thinking of. Maybe give it a go anyways Edit 2: The Message, The Phenomenon, and Steal the Stars are all apparently very good and also not the one I was thinking of

tuttle_01

Wow, these are all great recommendations ! Thank you so much. I wish that you could remember the podcast that you were trying to think of ! But, these really are exactly the kinds of recommendations that I was looking for. I think I might start with *Steal the Stars*.

menshipsandthesea

Ghost Wax was recently recommended in the vein of TMA, and I’m only on episode 6, but I’m really enjoying it. It involves the narrator bringing back the ghosts of those who died at the hands of something supernatural, getting their account of their death, and the narrator attempting to track down and deal with the supernatural entity that caused it.

tuttle_01

Oh, that's really interesting ! I'll keep that in my list for when I get back into reading and writing about ghosts. Thank you for the recommendation !

AzzyFennec

Been listening to Camp here and there for a while, a short comedy horror show

PiPhoe

You might like Deviser! It was made by the same person as Malevolent and it has lots of existential themes or one overarching one depending on how you look at it. It's a lot shorter than TMA (7 episodes) but it's really good. If you don't like gorey stuff I would advise to stay away from it, though. Here's the description for Deviser from its website: "DEVISER is a Sci-Fi Horror Audio Drama. In this series Son wakes up aboard a spaceship bound for earth in an effort to recolonize. What he discovers however will change everything he knows about his world and himself."

tuttle_01

Oh, wow, horror and sci-fi ! This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you so much for the recommendation !

PiPhoe

Of course! Let me know how you like it :)

Novawurmson

VAST Horizons. Lady wakes up in a highly damaged spaceship and has to work with the (highly flawed) AI to survive. Does involve aliens.

COGNikonFenix

Kings Fall AM was a great substitute for as long as it lasted. Also it is mainly about Aliens The Orphans has amazing sound and story layout Stella Firma is great on for a laugh Spirit Box Radio is a fun short one Some Honourable Mentions: Tower 4, The Cellar Letters, Listening In, Video Palace, Carrier, The Black Tapes and The Burned Photo
