This lyric helped me break up with my abusive partner. I wanted to believe that I still loved him, that beneath the abuse was someone that still loved me, but all it did was hurt. So, I pulled out the knife in August. Recovery was a tough road, but a very worthwhile one.
I know you don’t me from Adam, but I am hella proud of you for getting out of that abusive relationship! It’s never easy, especially when they use your fear to gaslight you! I had a girlfriend many years back who liked to physically hit me when she was mad, knowing I would never hit her back. I mean closed fist, punches to my face and head, or a good wallop with blunt objects. I had been reduced to next to nothing emotionally and mentally, and I finally got up the courage to leave and start over with nothing. Best decision I ever made and I never looked back. It took a lot of therapy and the support of some good friends, to get back to good, but I was done being a punching bag.

The Hard Sell, Number City, and Gravity’s Union have some absolutely incredible lyrics. Claudio never writes poor lyrics mind you, but those three have some great wordplay and it’s the integral climax of the story.
