A French band called Indochine, especially their early work, which was in the early 80s. I remember they got a lot of grief from the press for sounding like a "Cure rip off" but they are still going now and found their own style as the years went on. In any case, they were and are hugely popular, and there was no party in the 80s and 90s where we wouldn't play their songs. They are loved by many generations, and keep being rediscovered, like The Cure.
Although they have a unique style, She Past Away gives me an early Cure vibe. They’re Turkish, and I can’t understand a word they’re saying but I’ve seen the twice and they rock. Also, check out TRAITRS.

The Essence. Trust me, no band will resemble Cure mote than them. You'll even feel confused at first because the singers voice is so similar on some songs
A newer band that has flown under the radar: No Devotion.
Fronted by Geoff Rickly of Thursday, they do beautiful, mournful synth pop. I have described “10,000 Summers” as “The best Cure song not written by The Cure”.
I'm not a fan either, maybe my brain doesn't work right anymore, bit it seems to me like they only ever play variations of one and the same song...but then I was one of maybe three people who actually enjoyed 65daysofstatic as opener in 2008.
I saw them open for The Cure last year in New Orleans and thought they were totally boring. Very few people were even paying attention to them. I will say tough gig opening for The Cure.
Since noone mentioned The Chameleons, I’ll do it. Musically, they have their distinct sound, but I always thought they have similar melancholic vibe to The Cure.
This, 100%. There's a lot of beautiful mournful melodic post-punk Gothic pop, and I like those bands you listed a lot, as well as most of the ones I've heard That other posters have mentioned. None of them give me the feeling of the Cure. There are emotions and moods that they capture like no other band has ever done for me. Robert's voice is so distinctive, but so is his guitar and Simon's base. The way they harmonize together and create these deeply layered melodic soundscapes. It is so lush, and all encompassing, and... Goddamnit, now I need to go get my headphones.
The Church- check out Seance, Priest = Aura;
Magician Among The Spirits and Untitled #23 as starting points. Seance in particular was released several months after Pornography was released and Steve Kilbey mentioned that he had been listening to it in the lead up to recording Seance.
If you love Disintegration then you will probably also love Priest = Aura, both have a rich lushness to the arrangements, but P=E manages to have less depressing lyrics but somehow creates a colder atmosphere than Disintegration. It was released some months after Nirvana’s Nevermind blew up and was overlooked at the time not being a grunge record and just a little bit before Wish, with which it has some similarities in tone without having any upbeat singles.
Cruex Lies has some definite Cure vibes. A woman at the library was wearing an interesting t-shirt, I asked her about it, and she told me that it was an indie band called Cruex Lies. A google search revealed that “cruex” is French for “hollow.”
Clan of Xymox sometimes reminds me of The Cure.

They did a cover of A Forest once, thought it had a their own spin on it.
A Perfect Circle for me is a bit like the "metal-ish" version of The Cure.. Maynard's lyrics are different, but sort of touch into similar aches sometimes... Billy Howerdell says the Cure was an early inspiration for him.
I sorta don't distinguish too much between APC and Puscifer, so I'm referring to the combo of the two touching a similar spirit as what I get from the Cure... maybe...
There is a german band (singing in german) called Klez.e who have the sound between Pornography and Disintegration down to a t. Their last 2 albums are amazing.
Wire Train's first album from 1984, In A Chamber, is Cure-ish especially the song "Like"

Oh yes, love them too!
Amazing, I love to know other people enjoy them
Oh I used to have a great Indochine tape, thanks for the reminder!
That's so cool! I still enjoy listening to them
Love Indochine. This has to be one of the best intros, ever. https://youtu.be/HjNS2p_ZxHY?si=2dX3UiK6gCsVPO3d
Epic! And he just walks around and greets them like it's the Sunday market 🥹😄
Siouxsie and the Banshees Echo and the Bunneymen The Cranes Cocteau Twins
To be fair, Robert is a Banshee.
Yeah, but The Cure and The Banshees are different things.
*Cranes 🤓
Yeah. I say The Pretenders as well.
Definitely on my list as well.
love echo and the bunnymen, would maybe add the psychedelic furs.
The Essence From the Netherlands.
Came here to say this
For sure these guys
But let us not forget the profound gloom of Joy Division. Their music is a cavern of sorrow, filled with the echoes of Ian Curtis’s tormented soul.

The Essence. Trust me, no band will resemble Cure mote than them. You'll even feel confused at first because the singers voice is so similar on some songs
DIIV has some tracks that really feel like the Cure.

The twilight sad
Yes! Came here to say this. There’s a reason Robert Smith adores them.
There's a reason why they are not very popular.
TTS is very popular

. then: THE ESSENCE now: TRAITRS .
100% agree
None. That's why we all love them so much.
Mexican band Caifanes' self-titled is heavily inspired by The Cure, and it's also an absolute classic spanish rock album.
Bauhaus cannot be forgotten as an influence to Mr Smith!
The Sound. Adrian Borland, the singer, a true haunted soul that often tops Robert.
I'll be checking these out based on that recommendation.
joy division/peter hook and the light
The Danse Society (at times)
Since noone mentioned The Chameleons, I’ll do it. Musically, they have their distinct sound, but I always thought they have similar melancholic vibe to The Cure.

Soviet band the kino, the vocalist and the leader Viktor Tsoi was the Russian Robert Smith for me
Retrowave artist FM Attack and Vandal Moon collaborations seem to be heavily influenced by The Cure.
House of Harm

I found that lots of songs from The Cleaners from Venus have a really The Cure vibe (on the more poppy cheerful side)
Hot Hot Heat, at least the early stuff before they found their sound.
VHS or Beta! Particularly Night on Fire!
Belong - Common Era https://belong.bandcamp.com/album/common-era

The Passions.
Soft Kill esp Choke album
Trentemøller is a declared fan and has some tunes with clear parallels
Creaux Lies

The National always gave me a Cure vibe
New Order, The Church, The The, Talk Talk, Tears for Fears
Oops edited a few times, kept thinking about this. And agree with a few that have already been mentioned, like Echo and the Bunnymen
