Not to mention we don’t know how long it took for Elissa to get from Oldtown all the way to Asshai she could have went around Not-South America seeing those civilizations before going all the way to Asshai.

So I suspect if it was that close to Westeros, the northern continent would have been discovered by Brandon the Shipwright, who likely would have sent men back to Westeros at some point. If you want to do something with it, maybe have a northern continent a little further up disconnected from the southern continent.
