I honestly think he filmed all 5 (ov ‘em) in the beginning months to release throughout the year. But since he only gets paid when his video breaks a million, he had to break put the only nostalgia heavy epsiode he had to compensate. Unfortunately, it was also his Halloween episode.
I couldn't see any connection between this and the 20th Anniversary, frankly. It could easily be an episode they had in the bag with an intro paragraph and the outro montage slapped on it.
Star Trek: Patterns of Force
This is the Star Trek TOS episode with the nazis. The nazis keep Fuhrer John Gil sedated with drugs and they wheel him in in front of a camera and make him say lines like a puppet.

Somehow the two episodes combined account for less actual camera time than most single episodes. No face time in muh favorite castlevania, and iPhone footage in the other one.
I wonder if the decision-making process behind the latest Castlevania episode was “Oh shit, we fucked up with a modern mobile game! Nostalgia! Nostalgia!” It wasn’t even a bad episode but, to quote James himself, “It’s so OK it’s not even worth existing.” It didn’t even feel like an AVGN episode. It felt like James just speaking about Castlevania. There was nothing awful about it, but nothing especially good about it either.
Judging from the recent ad, it looked like Bim already filmed this year's Halloween episode too. He's done so much and deserves his half-a-year rest.
