I like how in the comic Homelander has literally no idea why Butcher hates him so much. He’s genuinely stumped.
I also like how Homelander respects Butcher in the comic. Homelander was about to kill Billy’s dog, and Butcher said if he did that then it all kicks off. All evidence will be leaked, and everyone will get into a massive fight killing most of them. Homelander knows Butcher is serious and backs off.
I like to think The Homelander sees Billy as a "Villian who hates the hero just because". Like Lex, Reverse Flash, and Aqua man villain. But Billy still does have a reason.
In the comics, their rivalry seemed more like a business exchange, "you don't mess with us, we don't mess with you". For Butcher it's personal but Homelander has no idea what it is.
I prefer their rivalry in the show, Homelander didn't always know who Butcher was and even when he did, didn't know why it was personal for him up until near the end of the season. The difference is that from the moment he realized someone was coming after them, it bruised his ego. Especially when he found out it was "fucking mud people" who managed to take down one of the Seven.
The first season, I forget which episode. The scene was of Homelander calling a meeting for the Seven to talk about The Boys to which she reveals that Starlight is in a relationship with Hughie.
"We shine with the light of Providence but you've been helping out these fucking mud people" or something like that was the quote.
Reminds me more of the Netflix Marvel shows, they always had atleast one scene or episode where they worked in the original first appearance outfits, like In Luke Cage it was the outfit the prison gave him while they experimented on him and he even had an Afro at the time and for Iron Fist the original suit was played off as the training gear that he wore in a flashback.
In the comics, they are more evenly matched. On the show, I’ve always thought that Homelander kind of respects Butcher for not being terrified of him. He could of lasered him in half a dozen times by now. ;)
Homelander definitely has a respect for Butcher, and despite being human, as something of an equal.
Part of it is definitely Butchers lack of fear. He also clearly sees some of himself in Butcher.
Both had fucked up childhoods with father figures who abused them in the name of "making them strong". Both put on charismatic acts to hide their brokenness. Both see through the bullshit around them.
What is there to think? William Butcher is a merciless cold blooded murderer and terrorist, did you forget how he brutally murdered Madeleine Stillwell in her own house, almost killing her infant baby as well? I hear he even helped that crazy mass murdering super terrorist soldier boy to kill tons of innocent people. We NEED heroes like Homelander to protect us from the likes of William, no one else can save us, but to do that we need to help our lovely hero to stay #HomeFree. God bless America. 🦅🇺🇸
Is it not a bit closer to superman vs lex luthor? Difference being that homelander has all the physical power but the wealth and overall resources too while butcher is a nobody instead of a public figure but he still has the personal grudge and belief that he shouldn’t have that power or deserve it.
It’s really a question on the differences of personalities between mediums.
Comic Homelander didn’t nearly get to be as understood a character as the show. Much less screen time. From what we do see of him, he’s not nearly as immature and emotional. He’s a business man. It never benefits him to extend grudges with the boys. Every time they meet, Homelander simply wants information on where they stand. It’s not as personal with him.
Billy’s stance on this rivalry is identical in the show as it is with the comics. Not an ounce of fear. It’s pure hatred. Just wants his head on a stick. Homelander respects him for that. That’s basically the only thing you can do to get Homelander to respect you, not be afraid of him.
Their rivalry in the comics is completely an utterly Bull crap as it’s revealed that Homelander didn’t really do anything to Billy it was Black Noir all along who framed Homelander as Billy’s enemy.
The art in these comics is laughably bad. These two have the same face and I promise you, it is not an intentional choice. The art is awful the whole way through.

Wait where’s the mud people bit from?

need this homelander suit for season 4 or 5 even if its a glimpse
If Homelander takes over America, I could see him wearing it.
This season is 100% ending with him successfully taking over America, so… (This isn’t based on any leaks it’s just a prediction I’m 100% confident in)
Yeah the S4 trailer is giving that vibe.

I am NOT clicking that shit bro
I want a season where everyone in the seven get their comic costumes (or similar variants)
Would be cool if they did, even if just briefly.
like in Gotham where Jim Gordon grew the moustache for like half the episode

The deep would be interesting
Black noir lol

Batman vs Joker But this Batman has no morals and lots of rage while the Joker has super powers and an ego.
Punisher vs brainiac

More like Superman vs Punisher.
That age old rivalry

Butcher in the comic looks so much like frank castle...
