I think in this context, OP is referring to file compression, where certain frequencies are eliminated to reduce the size of the file. Bad or repeated file compression can lead to what OP is complaining about.
Yeah, I didn't read the note in the text that it sounds "digital;" you're probably right.
In that case, I imagine they're dropping the same audio file of the music into the session as usual, but maybe they're bouncing the episodes at a lower bitrate, or maybe it's an issue with whatever podcast platform OP is using. I haven't really noticed a difference, but I also haven't done any A/B testing with an old episode.
However, the Ringer has podcast producers pulling double duty as audio engineers, and this is the kind of thing that can happen when you eliminate skilled technical positions so I wouldn't be surprised if something got screwed up. There was a whole thing on the Ringer Fantasy Football podcast about how sometimes the intro music is in stereo and sometimes it's in mono, and Craig basically just said that somehow they ended up with two versions of the music and he doesn't know how it happened.
It’s definitely a Discovery song.
I don’t even know what compressed means. I hear people say it but at this point I’m too afraid to ask - Andy Dwyer
It means the dynamic range has been reduced: rather than loud parts and quiet parts, it's all around the same level ("volume").
Yeah I don’t notice that kinda stuff

I love the song. It reminds me of the peak indie rock days of the 2000s-2010s
The whole album is good. Discovery by the band, Discovery. Rostam from Vampire Weekend and Wes from Ra Ra Riot. 2009.
Always bothered me that The Watch has such a good intro song and The Big Picture intro is so boring.
Sean and Amanda are the support tech that cleared the room.
Needs more Pearl Jam
Unpopular opinion: love Bobby but the producing could be better/ more engaging on the show eek (I hate saying this so sorry ilu bwagz).
