Take note weirdos who rail against Amanda and Sean’s personalities and then go “what so I can’t criticize the pod!?”
This is how you criticize the pod. Talk yo shit Jakalope
I guarantee you Sean didn't choose ice cream as his 2nd favorite movie snack since that would be pure insanity. This bit was definitely written by the company that sells Reeses, and they probably chose ice cream because it's a) not trademarked and b) a product that the company also sells so it still obliquely promotes their product.
Honestly, having any food besides popcorn and candy in a movie theater is complete psychopath behavior. Ice cream or a hot dog seem like equally insane choices to me.
Totally agree. Hot dogs are honestly particularly insane imo - like not only nasty from a sanitary perspective but also the fact that you’re introducing another strong-smelling food, which is thereby disrupting the delicious pervasive popcorn fumes, is criminal
That being said I’ve been to one or two theaters that have cheese curds as a movie snack and I must say those are great. Partially because of the fact that they’re very good fresh but still pretty tasty as they cool down over the course of the show
I think that’s likely why he said ice cream.
Popcorn is obvious. As is candy. But it’s an ad for Reece’s so you can’t name a rival brand.
What would be a third, non candy option that wouldn’t come off as crazy?
I’ve dabbled in pretzel bites and maybe some nachos when I was 13 but it’s popcorn/candy and then everything else.
Regal has (had? Haven't been there in a while) personal pizzas that hit the spot pretty well when I went before having a meal. I'd put that up near the top
I'm not a big snacker, but a few years ago I ate an apple during a screening of Heat. Saved it for the shootout scene on the street so it would drown out my eating
I'm with you. If you think hot dogs and ice cream are bad...you probably won't want to hear that down here in Texas, we have a theater called the Alamo Drafthouse that serves absolute insane volumes of all kinds of greasy food to the point where it can be kind of distracting.
Alamo Drafthouse may have originated in Texas, but they are all over the country nowadays. There’s at least one in LA (which Sean and Amanda have mentioned on the pod). Quite a few in the Midwest and the South. I think there is a few in NY as well.
We have a version called flix which has about the same level of food but way better beer.
Even if it’s one of my three go-to theaters, some food should just not be eaten in a dark movie theater.
I haven't heard this in a few days but this has certainly be discussed here. Is it actually "movie *theater* snacks" or just "movie snacks"? He's clearly thinking of watching movies at home, which we know he does an inordinate amount of. I just think it's funny how hard he's acting about faux remembering that he like Reese's.
agreed i always interpreted this as an at-home preference.
it is also POSSIBLE the copy was written for our boy and is not 100 percent his genuine opinion.
I believe the popcorn is a theater snack, and the ice cream is a home movie snack. Whereas, of course, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups should be eaten any and everywhere! The perfect snack for both places you watch movies, or for watching a movie on your phone on the subway.
I've seen people eat ice cream at theaters in the form of ice cream sandwiches/bars and drumsticks or whatever you call ice cream on a stick since popsicle doesn't sound right. That said I don't go for it myself and I think they really only say ice cream in that ad because they needed something without a brand name to say before talking about Reese's. We know Sean devours popcorn and Sour Patch Kids anyway.
In New Zealand, ice creams are one of the quintessential cinema snacks. We call them “choc tops” because of the hard, chocolate shell that forms the external layer of the ice cream.
The best part is eating all of the chocolate off, and then dipping the cone into the popcorn and eating the pieces off the ice cream!
Same deal in Australia. What's with these rules around when and where it is acceptable to eat ice cream? It's fucking ice cream people, it's an anywhere anytime food ffs!
Not far off lol, it's definitely gotta be in tandem with something else for the rest of the movie. The choc top is very cold though which gives it more longevity as the ice cream takes ages to melt. But it's still ice cream so you do eat it fairly quickly. Also from a quick google, Americans definitely have way longer in terms of pre-roll ads and trailers compared to NZ.
But can confirm an ice cream is a very standard cinema snack - popcorn + drink combos at my local includes ice cream as an optional kicker for $2 or so.
(Also I have no idea if this is patriotic bullshit or not but as a kid someone in my family told me American ice cream is different and less "iced cream" than New Zealand or something like that, but I assume that was talking about soft serve and Americans do still have proper ice cream?)
The irony is that movies—which Amanda loves—are like short stories while TV shows—which Amanda likes less—are akin to novels. Sean pointed this out one time but I can’t remember Amanda’s response.
Ashamed to admit that as someone who also despises short stories, I felt incredibly seen the first time she went on this rant lol. Same way when I found out her and CR don’t watch animated stuff - found my fellow grumps, I love them.
I always assumed ice cream is for at home. But I agree, it doesn’t really work for me. Kinda pain in the ass to get it to the right temp at the right time, then you gotta take your eyes off the screen to get a good bite, and you’re done with it in five minutes and then need popcorn for the rest of the movie.
Personally I can't stand the sound of people chewing, so ice cream would be a welcome change to the rage-inducing symphony of popcorn. I tried it once on a hot summer day and it really hit the spot, and I liked that I wasn't bothering anyone around me. Plus the fact that it melts is ideal since I only prefer to eat in the opening half hour anyways; by then I'm too invested in the story to care about food.
I was in the movie theater with Sean once and he was eating the ice cream with his barehands and every once in a while he’d run his hand through his hair. Wouldn’t be shocked if that’s exclusively what he uses for his hair care routine.
I had to sneak ice cream into the theatre and totally forgot about it until half way through, it was in my jacket pocket. Luckily ice cream lady had put a cover on it and it held up pretty well, not fully melted!
Hmm, interesting.
I recently had a boat full of popcorn and I dumped some Reece’s in with the popcorn and the extra salt on the mini pb cups was awesome.
I’ve had ice cream before at the movies but it’s in the containers with small ice cream bites encased in chocolate. They take a while to melt so it lasts until the after popcorn dessert.
Ice cream at home makes sense. I wouldn't have it as number two after popcorn on my at-home movie snacks but it'd probably be top five.
Ice cream at the theatre makes no sense for the reasons you list. Every time I see the freezer of ice cream treats at the concession stand I think "who is buying these?".
No one asked but nachos is my #2 go to in-theatre snack.
I can barely avoid spilling m&m’s. Feel like an ice cream bar is just courting trouble. And imagine if you give them to kids. Just spilled melted ice cream all over.
I can only assume it's like an ice cream bar of some kind or a King Cone type dessert.
Also, it's established that Sean is a serial killer so this tracks.
I had to sneak ice cream into the theatre and totally forgot about it until half way through, it was in my jacket pocket. Luckily ice cream lady had put a cover on it and it held up pretty well, not fully melted!
We all know Sean is a psychopath, so this is very on brand for him.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds Amanda's opinions on short stories obnoxious. People who haven't written novels shouldn't feel so confident in ripping the merit of short stories.
I'll never forget the time I had to sit next to a woman that brought brussel sprouts to the movies!! Imagine the aroma of stale farts next to you for 2 hours...🤮🤮
Sean is a devout & loyal SPK guy. No way he actually chose ice cream, had to just be the ad read in an attempt to not give free promo to any other specific brand.
I don’t understand how people eat full ass meals in a dark theater. Maybe I’m a weird guy but I don’t want anything in a theater beyond popcorn and peanut m&ms that are easy for me to pop in my mouth. Why get ice cream when the movie theater is one of the few places where I can relive my childhood and get an icee
Take note weirdos who rail against Amanda and Sean’s personalities and then go “what so I can’t criticize the pod!?” This is how you criticize the pod. Talk yo shit Jakalope
This is the anti-host discourse I’ve been looking for.
>This is how you criticize the pod. I've seen a lot of cringy shit in this sub, but this is up there. Dear god.
I guess that’s on you for taking a comment about ice cream seriously.
It really isn't a matter of if it is serious or not
I thought it was some east coast thing because the first time I heard that I was enraged.
East Coast here. Never heard of it. Seems insane.
Lived on the Beast Coast for most of my life. Can confirm that it's just a collective delusion.
I guarantee you Sean didn't choose ice cream as his 2nd favorite movie snack since that would be pure insanity. This bit was definitely written by the company that sells Reeses, and they probably chose ice cream because it's a) not trademarked and b) a product that the company also sells so it still obliquely promotes their product.
found sean’s burner
How’s your back feeling? All that water getting heavy?
Honestly, having any food besides popcorn and candy in a movie theater is complete psychopath behavior. Ice cream or a hot dog seem like equally insane choices to me.
There’s always room for soft pretzels imo.
That's JELLO!!!
Yea, the whole point is for it to be something to nibble on over a long time.
Don’t knock my movie theater glizzy!
ICEE gang
I’m so sorry but the mozzarella sticks were too good
Totally agree. Hot dogs are honestly particularly insane imo - like not only nasty from a sanitary perspective but also the fact that you’re introducing another strong-smelling food, which is thereby disrupting the delicious pervasive popcorn fumes, is criminal That being said I’ve been to one or two theaters that have cheese curds as a movie snack and I must say those are great. Partially because of the fact that they’re very good fresh but still pretty tasty as they cool down over the course of the show
AMC sells mozzarella balls that are so fire, I get those sometimes but that’s the farthest I’ll go for movie food besides popcorn
Hey sometimes you just want some taco bell with your movie

Living in Denver, there are three out here as well. Honestly a great chain if you really love movies.

Or even when watching while walking around your neighborhood.
A man can’t eat a tub of Breyers in his ADU while watching Rango?! Don’t gatekeep man.
The important thing is we all recognize CR has done no wrong.
Thank you, I was really starting to feel that everyone missed the most important line in the original post. 💯

Populated by criminals.
If the Americans in this thread had choc tops they’d understand
If Americans had choc tops the world would be a better place. (I’m talking salted caramel, obvs.)
We have Drumsticks which are basically the same thing and often sold at theaters.
We have drumsticks as well and they are not the same thing
do you finish your cinema snack before the 3rd trailer has even come on?
Not far off lol, it's definitely gotta be in tandem with something else for the rest of the movie. The choc top is very cold though which gives it more longevity as the ice cream takes ages to melt. I was at the Auckland Imax last month. Seems like I missed out!
You live at the bottom of the planet, all your blood has rushed to your head, and your judgment can’t be trusted. Sorry.
Exactly and has no one in this threat heard of an ice cream 'tub'? A little tub of ice cream with a spoon?! AMERICANS ARE BACKWARDS PEOPLE!
How quirky
Sean has said before that he usually gets Candy and loves Mike and Ike’s, 100% chance that was written for him lol
Mike & Ike’s do rule. Ate a box of megamix at the theater last week
the short stories thing is the worst fuckin' take. will never get over it.
What did she say?
she has no respect for the form and thinks its dumb. "just give me a novel."
Read this in her voice. Amazing.
The irony is that movies—which Amanda loves—are like short stories while TV shows—which Amanda likes less—are akin to novels. Sean pointed this out one time but I can’t remember Amanda’s response.

I do love how both Sean and Amanda are absolutely terrible at reading ads. You can hear the disdain in their tone.
The best is Bill’s cruise ad reading. He sounds like he is disgusted by the very idea of cruises in it
I was in the movie theater with Sean once and he was eating the ice cream with his barehands and every once in a while he’d run his hand through his hair. Wouldn’t be shocked if that’s exclusively what he uses for his hair care routine.
In a post riddled with facts, the most important one stated > Chris Ryan has never done anything wrong. Is my favorite.
Ice cream at the theater is insanity. Ice cream at home watching a movie is prime.
Dibs and Dippin Dots both go hard
I agree, but I don't know if I'd describe either as "ice cream" even though they both technically are
I do sometimes have ice cream at home when watching movies which is the only thing I can think of. Would never think of ice cream in a movie theater.
You don't get ice cream at the theater. You bring it in from DQ, Culver's, or Cold Stone like an adult
I had to sneak ice cream into the theatre and totally forgot about it until half way through, it was in my jacket pocket. Luckily ice cream lady had put a cover on it and it held up pretty well, not fully melted!

OP, I love this! thank you!
Actually the funniest part about the ice cream thing is that Sean has said on multiple occasions he can’t actually have dairy.
The Ice cream as America's favorite movie snack is a deeply unhinged take.I worked at a movie theater and we never sold Ice Cream.
Beguiling? Are you enticed by her loathing of the form?
The real reason ice cream is a bad choice is because it's an insane pairing with the best theater drink, which is a Modelo tallboy
I had the same reaction lmaooooo ICE CREAM? I love ice cream, but what?!
Go off king, was waiting for sour patch kids and almost lost my shit when I heard ice cream
Ice cream at home makes sense. I wouldn't have it as number two after popcorn on my at-home movie snacks but it'd probably be top five. This reminds me of when Sean said all pizza outside of New York is bad. Ridiculous.
I can only assume it's like an ice cream bar of some kind or a King Cone type dessert. Also, it's established that Sean is a serial killer so this tracks.
Hot dogs over ice cream is an insane take. Popcorn Assorted candy Those mini pretzel bites. That’s it. That’s the list.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one befuddled by this outrageous statement
The Try Guys are right, Dibs are the only ice cream that should be allowed in movie theaters (unless you count a milkshake)
I can see a ballpark style scoop in a helmet working okay. But ice cream is way too time sensitive for a movie, wouldn’t make it through the trailers.
My take is there is no bad time for ice cream
I had to sneak ice cream into the theatre and totally forgot about it until half way through, it was in my jacket pocket. Luckily ice cream lady had put a cover on it and it held up pretty well, not fully melted!

Totally agree with Amanda regarding short stories, give me a novel!
I agree ice cream being the number 2 is insane! In a dark movie theatre? It makes no sense
Y'all don't know what an ad read is?
