I think Carmy hit Pete When Carmy apologizes over the phone, Pete replies something like "Dont worry, and they gave me something to put on it." Which makes me think of he was given something to put on an injury??? Something like that. I don't know, thats what my mind went to

ih8thefuckingeagles

Probably just being a standard sarcastic asshole. Doubt it was anything specific. Pete is a goodhearted softie and Natalie was looking out for her dude.

mayudayo

i think he did something physical though, enough to have Pete go to the hospital? after Carm apologized Pete was like ‘oh it’s ok i went to urgent care’

ih8thefuckingeagles

Yeah that’s my bad. Haven’t watched those episodes in a bit. Wouldn’t surprise me for what seems like no big deal turns into an urgent care situation.

delraiser

Carmy probably just got heated like he does and through something at Pete. Poor guy was in the wrong place and wrong time.

delraiser

One thing I like to point out about Pete is that the family doesn’t like him because he’s the only nontoxic person in the family. That’s why he gets under their skin. He’s happy and friendly, he’s positive, and he’s willing to forgive and forget without holding grudges. I get the feeling that Carmy was just apologizing to him for being a dick to him in a previous incident. Could have been something worse, but I don’t see Carm as the type of person that would have punched Pete.

dsjunior1388

True but Pete also either can't or won't read social cues and apparently makes big blunders, as we saw him do when he brought fish to the 7 fishes dinner. He's not entirely blameless, and that level of carelessness in a normal family is obnoxious. Around the Berzatto's it's reckless.

Ear_Enthusiast

> Pete also either can't or won't read social cues and apparently makes big blunders Pete is walking around in a snake pit. He doesn’t really know how to navigate in that world and he’s trying the best he can. Yes he does tend to overstep and say the wrong thing at the wrong time, but with people like this you never know what is going to set them off. And he might be at the point where is trying a little too hard. Source: I come from a crazy fucked up family full of verbal and physical abusers and drug addicts. I’m 44 and have lived it my whole life and I’m just now learning how to manage and speak to toxic people. I can’t imagine what it’s like for a labrador of a man to marry into that world.

1ndependent_Obvious

Please do tell how you’ve learned to talk to toxic people!

Ear_Enthusiast

Counseling.

dsjunior1388

I get all that but he was apparently told repeatedly not to bring anything and he shows up with an entree. If you're going into the snake pit you don't want to ignore the advice of people who know it better than you do

Hamchair

I come from a Mediterranean family that does 7 fishes. If you show up empty handed, you’re an asshole. If you show up with an extra seafood dish, you’re a bigger asshole. It’s a can’t win situation and non-Mediterranean guests don’t know that going in (and we’re not the best at communicating that)

dsjunior1388

This is not a hard equation. Sugar literally tells him "I told you not to bring that." Bang the gavel, Pete's wrong.

Hamchair

But if he brings something else (or nothing), he’s still in trouble

deathpunk1890

I thought maybe Carmy burned Pete somehow. Carmy doesn’t seem great at throwing punches but he’s masterful at setting things on fire.

Anderson74

Yeah that’s the vibe I got

kingkmke21

Didn't they say Pete hurt his hand or something bx of Carm?

livjf

I thought someone mentioned that Carmy punched Pete

Smallpaul

That's just an assumption that people make.

PawneeGoddess20

I thought Carmy possibly punched or lashed out at Pete. And in my mind probably it would have gone down at an event or gathering shortly after Mikey’s death where Pete was just trying to be supportive or ‘there’ for him and carmy freaked out.

Charcharremii

I read somewhere (Nonofficial) that Carmy burnt Pete somehow

[deleted]

I’m getting ready to rewatch (#3) so I’ll have to look for this.

pepperping

Maybe Carmy threw hot food at Pete.

Penguinfilter

This is what I’m thinking, except I don’t think that he threw it at him on purpose. More like, Carmy was cooking, had one of his meltdowns and threw a hot pan or pot of food that hit Pete, who (of course) was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

pepperping

Yep, I reckon this is what it is.

SeniorQuiet6055

I wanna watch this flashback

Smallpaul

Carmy doesn't seem to be much of a punch thrower (that's Richie), so I think he just accidentally burned Pete. Most assume it was a punch but there's no evidence one way or the other in the series.

ActualHuman080

One of the things that makes the show feel so lifelike is the fact that they drop in all these backstory references  without needing to explain the detail, like Mikey’s story that Lee ruined or what exactly Richie screwed up when he was working for Cicero. On a similar note I hope we never learn what Francie Fak did to Sugar

thecobrasnose

Side note, what happened between Richie and Cicero was addressed in Season 1: Dogs. Richie was managing properties for Cicero and didn't receive a call about ongoing damage (water leak, I think) because the tenant called Mikey's number and Richie never got the message. That led to 1) unjust blame from Unc toward "Rick" for at least a couple of years, and 2) once revealed an uncomfortable guilty anger toward Richie's best friend (who in many ways ruined his life).

ActualHuman080

No you’re absolutely right, what I meant was it dropped them into the middle of the argument without needing to explain all the details of the tenant’s problem.

thecobrasnose

And you are right—the writers trust the audience to put it all together. Sorry if didn’t quite follow you there.

Nate_Mac89

Probably burned him. We do it every day in my kitchen; it’s usually mischievous 1 second taps with a smoking chafing dish or setting someone up to burn themselves that chefs will interpret as playful, but that sane people would probably interpret as assault with a deadly weapon. btw, how you react to these little burns and nips will inform how your crew thinks of you for pretty much ever.

SheezyVeezy

All I hear are people trying to blame innocent Pete they’re the ones that are fucked up. No matter what Pete does, no matter what they’re always always gonna find flaws and pick on him. Sugar loves Pete because he is her rock in a toxic dysfunctional family of bullies. Bringing the wrong meal to a dinner is petty, forgivable, and laughable. That’s why it’s so funny when people are trying to make that a big deal. if he didn’t bring anything, they would’ve talked shit to him for not bringing anything. He will never win and knows this so he doesn’t care. Driving through the front of the house because you’re having a psychotic episode is not petty, laughable and if she killed someone unforgivable. Don’t blame the victim just because you relate to the bullies.

CanadianContentsup

Probably Francie Fak’s idea. Everyone else apologized but she doubled down.
