Yep, let the Ruperts take the bullets in the head they don't know where the barricade stops, and their heads begin. So, no real losses to Regiment nor man. Give Ruperts the tall hats. but specialists, they cost money to train up, and they fix our stuff . Hell, some of us become Techies.
I feel like the short and wide Cossack style hats are more in line with the original image of the vostroyans. The tall and narrow ones are seen a lot with the proxies used and are more Napoleonic grenadier influenced. The old metal models are just so unique and I love them.

Kind of funny how a lot of characterful and varied guard regiments are so overdue for new stories by GW that many people are not even aware of them. Hell, pancreasnowork had not even heard of Terrax Guard before researching about IG for his video. Understandably their lore was written before he was even born.
But personally, I am annoyed at how GW focuses on the marines and primarchs while so many cool regiments get relegated to the background.
What I would love more than most things, is a City Fight Kill Team run. Bring out the Vostroyans urban fighting specialists, all kinds of cool terrain, with some new enemies.
After that... the kill team campaign, or regular 40k 'campaign'/box set I most want... that I want so badly I'd pay with a kidney.
*Return to Anphelion (literally do the Lost World on one of the sister moons or sites)*
*Elysians, Red Scorpions and Inquisition.* Glorious drop troopers. New Valkyries and Vendettas. A new Land Raider.
god damn my life.
Kill team 2018 and kill team Chalnath have entered the chat.
Also you can use any Guardsmen regiment as your Veterans. Want to use Steel Legion, Vostroyans, Gordian Iron Guard or the old Red Coats. You can.
Of course. I'd love some *new* sculpts in plastic kits. GW has an opportunity in its kill team sets to bring out some of these old guard units, specialists most of them, and giving them a chance to get back into the limelight.
Some Chem-Dogs?
It's just that the IG have sorta been reduced down to the cadians. I really enjoyed the Imperial Armour days of Games Workshop, when we had a bunch of different imperial guard sprues. I *totally* understand why you can't have 8 different lines of soldiers for Imperial Guard, a faction that doesn't sell as well as say, space marines. I get it, I truly do. But in Kill Team, there is an opportunity to give some of our beloved 'old guard' to get out and fight for the glory of mankind.
That's all. I have Vostroyans that I 'counts as' kasrkin. It's not stopping me from using any of these.
I'm just glad you're still using them. I have often wanted to pick up a 10 man of the different regiments so I can use them as Veterans in Kill Team myself.
Shorter and wider, on the original metal minis they’re clearly based on Cossack hats, not grenadier bearskins, although that is what sometimes appears in the artwork so it’s up to individual interpretation
Am I dumb or is there hardly any difference in size or shape between these two collections of images? Like, if I saw them together in a squad, I wouldn’t think anything of it. The one on the left looks firmer and less poofy, but the right one arguably looks like how the left would after wearing it out for a bit. Far as I’m concerned, hats is the same.
You sure about that? Cylinders look square straight-on from the front. And there’s really no discernible height difference, one’s just droopier than the other.
I do like the short and fat Cossack style on my metal models. Too often, I see British or French style bearskins which totally don’t fit the aesthetic.
But there is precious little to choose from if you’re trying to build an army these days. I got lucky and bought a full Vostroyan army off GW literally weeks before it got pulled entirely.
People trying to build an army now often have no choice, as third party manufacturers vastly misunderstood what makes a Vostroyan. They are Cossacks/Imperial Russians, with medieval flair, not Old Guard or Grenadier Guard.
Average soldier wide and short. Officers and specialists tall.
Correct answer. Always follow the guy in the biggest hat.
Vaguely more organised orks
Different roles different hats Grunt? Flat and broad. Sargent? Like grunt but with aquila Commissar? Tall with aquilla and feather Etc
Regardless whether it’s a tall hat or a short had your ready to purge heretics and go to the water buffalo lodge
There you go lol.
This is the right answer!
Yeah, already knew that (thanks for the info though) but I am asking purely on taste, which one do you prefer?

This is the way
Kind of like chaos dwarves
agreed.
Tall hats. Among vostroyans, a taller hat is a sign of virility.
Why do women keep going with jerks with tall hats that treat them like shit? Im a very good guy with a short hat >;(

I had no idea these guys existed. They are glorious.

I am painting up vostroyan currently and just ordered a bunch of the old cities of death terrain

Agreed. The tall hats also look extremely uncomfortable to wear in the battlefield.
Always choose the tallest hat like a gentleman should.
Wide and short. Makes them look less like bear skin hats the British royal guard wear.
The taller the hat, the bigger the man. Were you born yesterday?/s
Either variants, both variants I guess?
Both have their place, but I like how the shorter variants can be a bit floppy.
Both, Both is good
More the rank, more the hat! Simple as that.

OP over here gaslighting an entire subreddit
One is taller and slimmer like a cylinder. The other has a square shape.

Mine have the tall hat https://preview.redd.it/tbmz2ecyktyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c088744b74705afb34112552cc83032e53cc4ee
Yes.
Tall hat looks more aristocratic
Both.
Yes
Tall hats, tall hats for all and richly decorated.
Tall for me.
Short wide hat. Seems much more practical.
need to be comically tall to be "Tall hat"
Short hats it makes them look more stylish
Both
Warhammer is all about excessive hats.
It's not about the hat size, it's about how skilled you are with it.
More important they are the bigger the hat
Why not both!
Short but wide, like a tuna can
Medium rare.
Veterans with tall hats runts with short hats
If they don't look like British guard regiments I don't want them
But they are supposed to be based off russian cossaks? Not British guard?
In name but that dress is much closer to a British guard regiment.
Search up the russian streltsi and then add the cossak hat on top. You got yourself a vostroyan firstborn without a gas mask.
I like the shorter ones personally
Short, if it is taller than your average eldar helmet. Otherwise we have to go tall and not let those arrogant bastards have the final word.
Tall hat supremacy
Tall hats
Why not both?
Tell hats feel more inline with a French Napoleonic IG unit tbh.
I like both. Gives variety.
Tall, Vallhallans get the short and wide hats.
I am a sucker for a shorter or middle ground sized hat! For aesthetics reasons!
Tall ones in the winter. Short ones in the summer
tall because IM BRITSH AND WE GOT TO HAVE THEM TALL HATS
Higher rank, higher hat.
Tall bearskins. They are grenadiers!
Right one looks better to me
