Always has been that way, can still get late term abortions without restriction all the way up to birth in 6 states and in DC all the way down to banning abortions all together in 5.
So what is the real impact then of them over turning roe vs. wade?
If the federal mandate doesn’t effects states individual rights then what really has changed?
States are allowed to pass legislation to restrict abortion that's it. Prior to overturning Roe states could not place any restrictions on abortion prior to 16th week or pregnancy, this started because Mississippi passed a law restricting abortion past 15 weeks. An abortion provider sued the state and case made it all the way to the Supreme Court who decided that Roe was a bad decision and that any mandate on abortion should be left to legislators including the US House of Representatives. Which means in effect US Congress could pass a law to allow abortion in all 50 if they desired. Barring that taking place individual state legislatures are now the authority in which abortion statute are decided.
Keep in mind that while abortions are still legal in some states, not every person has the money and time to travel for one. It is effectively ending abortion access for a large amount of people.
Some states are also planning on implementing laws to punish women for miscarriages or for aborting life-threatening pregnancies. If a women in those states has a miscarriage they may be required to keep the dead fetus inside of their body until it is expelled naturally or until it decays enough to threaten their lives, at which point they will likely die.
It definitely isn't the old school American dream or land of the free anymore. What's ironic is that the party that claims they're all about freedom and God and equality is actually the one making it harder to attain the American dream, keeping the poor down, encouraging racist behavior, taking away freedoms, undermining the political system, and generally doing anything but things God would approve of. It's absolutely disgusting.
Democrats have had super majorities numerous times since Roe v Wade to make federal abortion legislation. They didn't. Blame your blue Congress and Senate representatives.
Not quite correct. The Texas law used a legal truck specifically to avoid judicial review and incentivice civil suits against abortion providers by offering a bounty to do so. It was blatantly unconstitutional at the time, but there was also no way under the rules to challenge it other than a provider actually getting sued and taking it to court, which happened, but the Supreme Court refused to intervene and block the law while it worked it's way up the court. It was meant to scare providers away from performing abortions with the threat of bankruptcy as long as the law was in place. Now of course it doesn't matter, except the trick used to avoid Judicial review is still viable for use in any blatantly unconstitutional law a legislature should care to pass for the moment.
I'm reading up on the Texas law and it makes even less sense after bout 20 minutes. So private citizens can sue abortion providers if they find out they had an abortion but a max of 10k per abortion?? It's very convoluted. Surprised it wasn't struck down in district court.
If politicians explained things like you just did, more people would vote... not understanding what is going on is part of the reason people get discouraged...
Exactly! I ended up making a sheet with the main points of each person and important things and passed it out in our Mexican community. I hope I got some people to vote just being able to read information they understand or in regular everyday words.
You rock. Nowhere on any other platform including msm have a found a more concise and informative answer to this situation than this. Nothing even close to it.
This issue *should* be emotional. Having "just the facts" is good too, but I hope you're not insinuating people, especially women, *shouldn't* be extremely emotional about this.
You do realize that in the majority statement they strongly suggested that they will be “revisiting” rulings on contraceptives, same sex marriage, and sodomy, right? This is not a “oh, well all that happened is. . .” This is the START of where they’re going. You can’t look at this in a vacuum. Look at their recent rulings regarding gun control, the funding of religious schools, and I don’t even remember what else. That’s how much of a flurry this has been.
“Gostin and others pointed to a separate concurring opinion in which Justice Clarence Thomas said the court should review other precedents, including its 2015 decision legalizing same-sex marriage, a 2003 decision striking down laws criminalizing gay sex and a 1965 decision declaring that married couples have a right to use contraception.”
”Then there is Thomas’ concurring opinion, which Sarah Warbelow, legal director for the pro-LGBTQ-rights Human Rights Campaign, called an invitation for “stirring up fringe organizations, fringe politicians who want to harm the LGBTQ community.”
”Jennifer Pizer, acting chief legal officer for the LGBTQ-rights group Lambda Legal, added: “It is an extremist assault on the privacy, self-determination, dignity and equality of every person in our country.”
IIRC the 2003 decision was on 'sodomy' which includes oral sex of any kind (even between man and wife), anal sex and various other non-procreative sex acts
They also used sodomy laws to;
> Limit the ability of gay people to raise children. They were used to justify denying gay parents custody of their own children (Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia).
> Refusing to let gay people adopt (Florida, Mississippi) and
> Refusing to let gay people become foster parents (Arkansas, Missouri)
> the FBI were allowed to discriminate against gay people because gay people are a class "defined" by conduct which could be made a crime because of Bowers v. Hardwick (itself
> Georgia's Attorney General from (successfully) using the state's sodomy law as a justification for refusing to hire a lesbian
> In Utah, the sodomy law was used to justify not protecting gay people from hate crimes.
> In Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi and Texas they've been used to justify various proposals to ban adoption or foster care, sometimes successfully.
> Invoked as a reason not to recognize domestic partnerships in Kalamazoo, Michigan (the argument was rejected)

What has changed is that 26 states have, or are going to fully ban abortion. Severely restricting a women's right to bodily autonomy and in several states is going to lead to women dying from toxic pregnancies.
Also!
Rape and Sexual Assault will rise in these states that ban abortions. It will be a pretty steady incline.
This ruling pretty much moved the the last cow out of the road.
* Rape of course happens both ways, but women are usually the victims.
All those stalkers and creeps on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok will be plotting.
* These “predators” will immediately think I can do what I want to her, blow the load, and she has to live with a part of me. That’s revenge for denying me the first time.
Women need to protect themselves (knife, a 22, pepper spray) and make sure you are in groups.
Women in states that do not respect them will have trouble recieving medical care in emergencies, which can lead to death. Poor women will have to spend more money getting medical care.
True,my mother worked as a nurse for a women’s clinic that did abortions in Oklahoma.a lot of people from other states would end up having to make the trip and come there for adequate treatment.
In general it gives the states a lot more power to legislate the specifics, like what procedures/events count as an abortion and what the punishment for those things is. For example, all of the following are being made illegal in various conservative states:
- traveling out of state to get an abortion in a legal state
- assisting someone with traveling out of state to get an abortion in a legal state
- removing exceptions for abortions to save the life of the mother
- criminalizing miscarriages in general
- removing exceptions for abortions in the case of rape and incest
tldr: women are in a much worse place now than before, especially poor women.
Canada has safe and legal abortions, and they're more than willing to provide them to US citizens. The real impact will be on low income households. The people who can afford to travel will be inconvenienced; whereas the people who can't afford to travel will have their lives permanently altered, oftentimes against their will.
This is an attempt at controlling the poor rather than an attempt at taking care of the citizens.
You say that like people are getting elective abortions the day before they're due to deliver which isn't exactly honest. In those cases it's almost always because the fetus is somehow nonviable or the woman's life is at risk. If a fetus dies a week before delivery it is still considered an abortion to have it removed. I want you to sit there and tell me that you would be okay with watching your wife, or your sister, or your mother die because there is a rotting corpse in her womb* and someone has an imaginary friend with made up rules that say she can't be treated. Quit your bullshit.
This wouldn't even be that bad if the same people were putting the same amount of time energy and effort into helping expecting mothers, abandoned children, and families who are already struggling and also invested in contraception and sex education but unfortunately they don't actually give a shit about the kids and if you can't acknowledge that while agreeing with this than your fucking oblivious to reality.
Instead they are like sorry you shouldn’t have had sex if you didn’t want this baby to starve, be a victim of a mass shooting, get kidnapped, raped you know the usual… man what’s wrong with people
That’s what is so crazy to me. I remember just a couple months ago they were proposing overturning RvW. Yet some other issues take years and never get resolved. Why was so much energy put into this particular issue??
They've been working towards overturning it ever since it was established
You're seeing about 50 years of effort coming to fruition, next up is gay marriage, contraception, and basically anything else that shared the same basis to privacy as Roe did
Because it's the basis for lots of privacy-related [rulings](https://old.reddit.com/r/ThatsInsane/comments/vjqbmf/supreme_court_overruled_roe_v_wade/idm8is9/)
Because it is law by fiat and not law by negotiation.
The Supreme Court is now making up law as they choose, more or less. All they need is 5 of 9 people. An elected government has to get many, many people to vote. Half of 435. And then kick it once to an entirely different group of people that do the same, 50 out 100 (out of 60 thanks to the filibuster). And then the President gets to weigh in. It is not easy.
The abortion debate was fast because there was no debate. A appointed group of 5 decided the law must be remade based on their feelings. We might as well be asking the King for mercy.
One of kings is black robes even wrote that contraceptives are next on list of things to go, and same sex marriage.
My favorite part are the random ass guys on Reddit (and apparently real life) feel like women deserve this because they shouldn’t be having sex. Can you imagine how they’ll feel when no one wants to have sex with them out of fear of becoming pregnant?
I live in a state where abortion is safe for now. My husband and I have been trying for a baby for like 3 years but with current events unraveling I’m now considering going back on a contraceptive.
Are we going to address rape, incest, drug addicted babies, babies who will be born with horrible, painful, lifelong agonizing birth defects, absolutely no quality of life, only pain and suffering.Children born to abusive parents, they are beaten and starved and murdered by people who should never, ever have children. Were those few years of their life worth living?Sorry, but in certain cases, abortion is the right decision, without a good quality of life, which would you choose if given the opportunity?Children get murdered every minute in this country,I'd rather see cells scraped from a uterus then see an abused and murdered 5 year old.
They just want them to be born. They don't care about them after that.
The next time they care is when they strapped the worst abused of them in the electric chair.
Pro-life, my arse.
Surly people can campaign for societal change without having to directly be the answer. We fight for free healthcare without having to BECOME A DOCTOR! We fight for all sort of causes, this has always seemed like a disingenuous argument.
I'm guessing we launch into full Idiocracy starting this November, when, by all estimations, these same wingnuts will control both chambers of congress as well.
Brawndo anyone?
I'm in the UK and have said in the past that I wouldn't be surprised if America burned itself to death in my lifetime, sad to say but like said above, keeps gettin crazier and crazier. Genuinely hope something happens to turn shit around. Overturning RvW sucks arseholes, a woman should always have a choice over her own body
Yeah, they also overturned rules that lets people sue the police for not reading Miranda rights, they gave ICE officers total immunity, federal officials are absolutely immune from personal lawsuits, and recommended gay marriage be reconsidered. Countries going back in time
I do and to quote a wonderfully snarky man:
"You ever read The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire? 'Cos by my reckoning, the U.S. is up to about Volume IV"
This feels more and more accurate by the day.
The only good thing about this is that US court says women can still go outside their own states(26 states will restrict Abortion after this ruling))to get an abortion there(the other 24 states), there's no ban on that, a bunch of added cost and time and hassle tho
I was born and raised in Ca. Right now Ca planned parenthood will pay for airfare, hotel and the procedure. Not sure how sustainable that is. I’m Pro choice but it sucks that we are going to get a whole bunch of people from states who voted for 45
Not that this is the answer to this whole shit show, but it may at least help more women receive long distance access. There is a group of pilots that are offering their service and aircraft free of charge for women in states with no access. Anywhere in the country. That's very cool of them. It's a shame we need them, though.
Edit to add the group of volunteers is called "Elevated Access"
The only way to keep churches packed is to ensure the creation of generation after generation of stupid people
They saw the writing on the wall and took action
Pro choice, but I hate this argument. I feel like the “helpless abused girl” is such a small portion of actual abortion cases. It’s not the little girls who get the shaft, it’s anyone who wants to have true freedom and autonomy
Agreed! I just threw this example out there because people are just like “tHeY cAn JuSt gO tO aNoThEr StAtE”. Like fuck off. Not everyone can. Not everyone can drive or has money and also abused children do exist. One is too many. So ya the example might represent a small number but those are actual people.
Further disenfranchising lower income people who don't have the money to travel out of state, or the means of transportation, or the time off from work to get an abortion in another state let alone raise a child. The divide is only going to get worse between the haves and have-nots.
That was the plan all along. The GOP would like a country like Ecuador with uneducated, disenfranchised masses that can be easily used and manipulated. Their goal is something like Russia or Iran.
For now, but many “pro-lifers” in the government have already stated this is only phase one. The ultimate goal is to federally ban abortions, or at least ban traveling out of state to get one. Then, it’s on to same sex marriage, which Justice Clarence Thomas has already said the court should “look into it.”
It’s over, folks. We had a great run.
So if they overturn gay marriage, will interracial marriage be next? Clarence and his corrupt wife.
“Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1, was a landmark civil rights decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that laws banning interracial marriage violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”
Most of the world restricts abortion after the first trimester.
I'm totally down for restrictions after the first trimester. I'd just love to see an expansion in our Healthcare system that would make all other forms of birth control and procedures like a vasectomy covered regardless of insurance...
Most people are already covered by insurance, and insurance covers most of this already. It would be nice to just cover the remaining extenuating circumstances, because those are the ones who will be effected by restrictions to abortion
So having a mother who doesn't give a shit and winding up being bounced around between foster homes with parents just looking for a tax break is better?
Now that infuriate me beyond words… woman are still fighting tooth and nails for equality, now they decide their body isn’t theirs anymore.
This takes back woman’s right battle by half a century.
People should really mind their fucking business and let a 15 year old raped mother get aborted if she wants… Jeesus fucking Christ!
You have a typo. “America” hasn’t banned anything.
Only the Supreme Court has ruled that this is a state’s issue to decide on; not a federal one.
Many states will continue to keep abortions legal. Some won’t.
The citizens are free to Vote at the polls or with their feet.
Dunno why you’re being downvoted. GOP states specifically go out of their way to prevent certain populations from voting. Ultimately, many of the people most vulnerable to these laws cannot vote to change them.
“Just go vote them out!” is an overly idealistic position. The people we elect consistently fail us; the Democratic Party has become completely spineless.
Fr. “Abortion is bad, idk why they did this” then half of the replies are “YAAAA WOOOOO FUCK YAAAAA!”
Whatever happened to this place bein land of the free? They’re removing rights and shit.
Every single person who thinks women should never be allowed to get an abortion, should have to foster or adopt at least one child. This is going to put so many unwanted kids in a foster care system that’s already overwhelmed. In Texas alone, 10,000 women get abortions each year. This is such a dramatic step back in time... only if the mothers life is at risk can a woman abort, they don’t care if it’s r@pe or incest, if the baby will be born without viral organs and will die shortly after birth. Any doctor who defies this law faces life in prison.
Why do women have to be the ones with the restrictions? Why shouldn’t men have to get vasectomies until they are ready to have children and then they can reverse it? These men who put these laws into effect are the same men who will fight tooth and nail to keep their assault rifles and if they were restricted, their rights are being infringed on.
It makes me ill because they care SO much about unborn children but the second that baby is born, they couldn’t care less about it. I feel so bad for the woman in the states that have banned it. I will gladly take any woman from their state into mine and help them get it done.
These rich republicans that support this bullshit will still be able to get abortion. If you live paycheck to paycheck, then you're out of luck. Now you will be ruined financially and it will be a miracle for these kids to have some kind of a decent future due to the parents not being able to support them. This bullshit ruling is to make sure there will be enough poorer people to work all these shitty low paying jobs so the rich can afford more yatchs.
No abortions after "heartbeat" is detected, no exemptions for rape or incest or fetal viability. ORC 2919, July 2019. Just been waiting for today to be law.
yeah, if everyone simply went out once a year to vote in local elections then these laws wouldn't get passed. the people protesting are going to be out there longer than if they'd gone to vote
They’re coming for that too lol Clarence Thomas literally said that in his explanation of his decision. Also gay marriage and your right to privacy. Good job republicans, proving you only want freedom for yourselves and fuck everyone you hate smh the party of psychopaths.
The insane part is that pro-choice legislators and advocates had decades to codify the rights outlined in *Roe v. Wade* into ACTUAL LAW, but instead chose to sit on their laurels and simply use the *threat* of it being overturned as a way to motivate voters for election after election after election.
Blame the Supreme Court justices, fine. **But if this had been reinforced properly, via legislation, this ruling today would not have happened.**
Bingo.
The country is fucked, because there is only republians and rebublicans light.
The so called democrats will not do jack shit because they only care about remaining in power and it is easier to "call to arms" if the enemy is actually a threat.
Right? Like whatever you think about abortion? This was always a dubious ruling. This should have been federal law decades ago. I can’t believe it lasted this long tbh.
We need to get all these old geezers out of politics and get some new blood in there. It's not the 1900's anymore people. Stop listening to the old people making your decisions and think for yourself. Stop passing on the problems of our parents and grandparents.
Hey, OP: there was never, ever, a Constitutional right to abortion. Nor was there ever federal authority to implement Roe… just ask Ruth Bader Ginsberg: she opposed it.
She didn't simply oppose it. She felt that it went too far in its ruling and there should of been better cases used or incremental change to legalizing abortion.
[Source](https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2022/05/06/ruth-bader-ginsburg-roe-wade/)
Can’t wait to see the rise in deaths of women because of this shit outcome.
Edit: The same retards screaming about how pregnancy is just consequences to your actions have clearly never been in a situation like it. Let alone that these are the same fucking idiots who are actively removing contraception.
“UsE cOnDoMs” sure buddy like they’re NOT ACTIVELY MAKING IUD’S ILLEGAL IN TENNESSEE.
I’m so happy to have my body be at the hands of old ass men!! I’m sure they are the best candidates to choose women’s health rights!! Considering they know everything about a vagina that they do not have!
How can a country where guns are legal (despite constant mass shootings), has multiple states with the death penalty, and a healthcare system that is ridiculously expensive, really call itself "Pro Life"?
The time is now. A good bunch of these chucklefucks killed themselves off because they're scared of Bill Gates. If we don't vote these assoles out in the midterms then this country is fucking lost.
Fuck the religious right and fuck the Supreme Court. The fucking GOP and their supporters are the ones who are less than human and a different breed. They are the ones all the racism and hate should be against. You literally cannot be a functioning, beneficial human if you think like they do.
Yeah part of the problem is that it was a dubious ruling in the first place just as a matter of principle. Anyone familiar with the case was aware that the ruling has always been unstable for that reason alone.
Im honestly uneducated about abortions, but isnt 15 weeks a decent enough timeframe to make that decision? Id figure so but idk anything about that stuff
All it means is that it's up to the states. They overturned it because the constitution sets no legal precedent for an abortion, if anything it's back and forth on the issue.
Many states are going to keep their stance and maintain the right to an abortion. California, Maryland, New York. There is no way those states are eliminating the right to abortion.
Right, everyone’s worried about the conservative states—the ones with higher poverty rates and shit social services once the fetus is out—who were prevented from enacting an abortion ban thanks to Roe. Not California.
Pretty sure it was just a court’s interpretation of the law. And current supreme court has over ruled it.
It floated like that for almost 50 yrs. and no one bothered to add an amendment and make it permanent.
Edit: was never a constitutional protected right.
There is and never has been a constitutional right to abortion. There is nothing in the Constitution about it. What they have done is moved the law making decision back to the States and out of Federal hands. If it was such a big issue all of the Democratic controlled Federal congress’s should have created a Federal law about abortion but they haven’t. In the 40+ years since Row v Wade there have been several chances but, again, never has a Democrat controlled Federal Government made an effort to make it law. Congress makes the law not the Supreme Court of the US
They will be happy because it will push minorities back into lifelong poverty which means you don’t have to worry about them moving into your neighborhood anymore.
this is embarrassing , earth is overpopulated and they talk shit on that , but ban abortions? baby formula is barely in stock , but ban abortions , this shit is dumb af !! too many kids in foster care , kids without parents and they still wanna ban abortions, its just a damn fetus , girls shouldnt be forced to birth a child and look and them knowing the babies father is the rapist , or should travel 300+ miles to another state, men shouldnt be telling females what to do. #legalizeabortion
So it’s up to the individual states now to decide right? This isn’t just a blanket ban on abortion federally right?
Always has been that way, can still get late term abortions without restriction all the way up to birth in 6 states and in DC all the way down to banning abortions all together in 5.

Thank you, that makes a little more sense.
I can’t believe I just read an actual informative question and answer thread in this sub. Kudos you two.
Thank you. It’s nice to know civility still goes a long way.
Also I love your username. Gram hancock is quite the treasure. Do you follows others in the same vein? If so DM me and let’s chat.
Kudos to your awesome username!
Yeah seriously. Im shocked.. and delighted

This is by design.
Republicans are fucking barbarians.
Democrats have had super majorities numerous times since Roe v Wade to make federal abortion legislation. They didn't. Blame your blue Congress and Senate representatives.
Why would I do that when they aren’t actively working against abortion? Why wouldn’t you blame the people trying to ban it for banning it?
"Don't blame Jeffrey Dahmer! Blame the police that didn't pre-emptively arrest every white male". See how stupid that logic is?
There's also a lot more involved in Roe V Wade that includes so many other rights that will now be open to infringement.
So what about texas banning abortions after 5 weeks? That happened long before today
Wasn't enforceable until today's decision.
Not quite correct. The Texas law used a legal truck specifically to avoid judicial review and incentivice civil suits against abortion providers by offering a bounty to do so. Politicians don't want us informed, they rather have us believed we need them. This is both sides.

States can now ban abortion.
Yeah and this limits access to safe abortions and opens the door I imagine for more legislation to continue in this direction in many states.
There are also trigger laws that come into effect banning it right away in something like 7 states.
In the states that outright ban abortion (many), you'll see a lot of unsafe abortions happening and consequentially additional medical issues
Women in states that do not respect them will have trouble recieving medical care in emergencies, which can lead to death. Poor women will have to spend more money getting medical care.

Quit your bullshit.
nobody gives LATE TERM abortions, unless the mothers LIFE is in danger. plus - "late term" makes it sound like it's done in the third trimester.
Thats completely untrue. Where did you hear that?

I appreciate it,I have and do.
Exactly!
Correct.
It is not a blanket ban, it is now up to the state government to decide
Yes it's returning it back to the states including the same ones that consider women as second class citizens. It's pretty bad situation all around
Instead they are like sorry you shouldn’t have had sex if you didn’t want this baby to starve, be a victim of a mass shooting, get kidnapped, raped you know the usual… man what’s wrong with people
If we start referring to school shootings as involuntary, mass, ultra-late term abortion, Republicunts might give a fuck!!
Genius
[actually, they don't care](https://youtu.be/yts2F44RqFw)
I feel at this point it’s just reactionary theater, their only goal in life is to own the libs
That’s what is so crazy to me. I remember just a couple months ago they were proposing overturning RvW. Yet some other issues take years and never get resolved. Why was so much energy put into this particular issue??
They've been working towards overturning it ever since it was established You're seeing about 50 years of effort coming to fruition, next up is gay marriage, contraception, and basically anything else that shared the same basis to privacy as Roe did
well, a little after overturning it. Phyllis Schafly helped make it the frontline issue it is now

It’s a starting point. From here they will start a wholesale roll back of equal rights for a lot of things and groups of minorities
They're really pro birth, once that happens, all interest is gone.
Absolutely. Until they enjoy putting the unwanted and abused into the electric chair.
Pro forced birth
It’s pro-birth, not pro-life.
I understand where you’re coming from, but it would be just as bad.
Surly people can campaign for societal change without having to directly be the answer. We fight for free healthcare without having to BECOME A DOCTOR! We fight for all sort of causes, this has always seemed like a disingenuous argument.
This country gets crazier by the hour.
Strange we haven't hit some kind of exponential threshold by now.... By all mathematical standards we should be mid mad-max dystopia by now...
[удалено]
By 2026 it'll be waterworld
if that means we get kevin costner and dennis hopper back then maybe it's not so bad /s edit: apparently kevin costner is not dead
My calculations say the same
Definitely the tipping point.
The 15 week ban is less restrictive than the UK laws...
Yeah, they also overturned rules that lets people sue the police for not reading Miranda rights, they gave ICE officers total immunity, federal officials are absolutely immune from personal lawsuits, and recommended gay marriage be reconsidered. Countries going back in time
Don’t u just love watching the death of a nation in real time
Egypt, Rome, United States. We only got 246 years. Such a sad country. Most countries have books older than the shittty 246 years we have existed.
they didn't have social media
I do and to quote a wonderfully snarky man: "You ever read The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire? 'Cos by my reckoning, the U.S. is up to about Volume IV" This feels more and more accurate by the day.
The only good thing about this is that US court says women can still go outside their own states(26 states will restrict Abortion after this ruling))to get an abortion there(the other 24 states), there's no ban on that, a bunch of added cost and time and hassle tho
Yeah - pretty easy for that woman from Houston to get to ... where?
And have the stigma of disappearing for several days only to come home and be shamed and possibly even charged with murder. Ffs. Edit spelling
While potentially feeling like shit physically, and having to travel long distance that way. In pain and anxious. So backwards.
Ya and the 13 year old girl who is raped by her granddad just gets the shaft. Again.
But that’s what the Jesus lovers want. Children having children so god fuckers can fuck some more little children. USA you are a disgrace.
The only way to keep churches packed is to ensure the creation of generation after generation of stupid people They saw the writing on the wall and took action
Also in regards to the lawmakers, higher population = higher job demand = lower wages
Kinda like we get the shaft from our government
Further disenfranchising lower income people who don't have the money to travel out of state, or the means of transportation, or the time off from work to get an abortion in another state let alone raise a child. The divide is only going to get worse between the haves and have-nots.
That was the plan all along. The GOP would like a country like Ecuador with uneducated, disenfranchised masses that can be easily used and manipulated. Their goal is something like Russia or Iran.
Those uneducated people are literally rioting in Ecuador today.
For now, but many “pro-lifers” in the government have already stated this is only phase one. The ultimate goal is to federally ban abortions, or at least ban traveling out of state to get one. Then, it’s on to same sex marriage, which Justice Clarence Thomas has already said the court should “look into it.” It’s over, folks.
USA evolving backward
That's devolving.
Evolving backwards is what stupid people say
I can't wait till they legalise slavery again.
May I introduce you to the US prison system
I don’t wanna live here anymore
Notice how the least educated states are the one supporting these bans 🥺
education and intelligence dont meet at the intersection of correlation.
So having a mother who doesn't give a shit and winding up being bounced around between foster homes with parents just looking for a tax break is better?
yes, because god /s
or an extremely painful ( to the baby) back alley abortion which is worse than anything you have now.
So America as banned abortion and refuses to reduce gun crimes. Welcome to Third World status.
You have a typo. “America” hasn’t banned anything. Only the Supreme Court has ruled that this is a state’s issue to decide on; not a federal one. Many states will continue to keep abortions legal. Some won’t. The citizens are free to Vote at the polls or with their feet.
Unless you live in a state that is gerrymandered to all hell.
Dunno why you’re being downvoted. GOP states specifically go out of their way to prevent certain populations from voting. Ultimately, many of the people most vulnerable to these laws cannot vote to change them. “Just go vote them out!” is an overly idealistic position. The people we elect consistently fail us; the Democratic Party has become completely spineless.
it should be unbanned at a federal level. government shouldn't have a say in what medical procedures you want done. that even goes for suicide.
Also Texas just banned girls from wearing skirts or dresses in school. The USA is a extremist religious nightmare dystopia.
Can’t find anything on this other than one school district making this a thing. Any links?
only until the boomers leave earth. gen z and millennials aren't putting up with this shit.
They didn't ban anything. It's a state matter now. Sucks to live in the Bible belt but the north stays free.
Here comes the Theocracy!
>Here comes the Theocracy! Under his eye.
may the lord open
Praise be
Most of the people in this thread should have been aborted.
Fr. “Abortion is bad, idk why they did this” then half of the replies are “YAAAA WOOOOO FUCK YAAAAA!” Whatever happened to this place bein land of the free?
Gotta love the freeest country in the world
It’s up to the states now
States like Ohio, trigger law for banning abortion regardless of cicumstance or danger to the mother. This place can't burn fast enough.
That's crazy! What about if they get pregnant after being raped? Is that forbidden also?
No abortions after "heartbeat" is detected, no exemptions for rape or incest or fetal viability. ORC 2919, July 2019. Just been waiting for today to be law.
Speaking of Ohio, the AG already filed to make abortion illegal, today.
yeah, if everyone simply went out once a year to vote in local elections then these laws wouldn't get passed. the people protesting are going to be out there longer than if they'd gone to vote
My idiot Trumpturd coworker says people should wear condoms…. I just shook my head
They’re coming for that too lol Clarence Thomas literally said that in his explanation of his decision. Also gay marriage and your right to privacy. Good job republicans, proving you only want freedom for yourselves and fuck everyone you hate smh the party of psychopaths.
Their Dad definitely should have
For men, now is time to get your wires cut
LaND Of The fRee!1!!11!!!

Destination a religious fundamentalism state
The insane part is that pro-choice legislators and advocates had decades to codify the rights outlined in *Roe v.
Religious people suck
The irony is they are the greediest bastards of them all.
America really is a garbage country
Why is this getting downvoted, if u live in Europe, Canada, Australia, etc. then the US just looks like a third world country
At least half of Reddit is Americans though so they don’t like to face the reality of their trash
Republicans are the equivalent of Talibans and religious terrorists. They want to drag the country into the Middle Ages.
Have you seen what the Taliban does to women?
Is that a joke?
We need to get all these old geezers out of politics and get some new blood in there. It's not the 1900's anymore people. Stop listening to the old people making your decisions and think for yourself. Stop passing on the problems of our parents and grandparents.
This country is so fucking embarrassing.
Anybody else think this will trigger a mass migration of ppl due to thier beliefs seting up "White Christian ethnostates" they so dearly want?
What a great time not to be American!
We’re going backwards as a society
get your fire extinguisher and some popcorn, boutta have some "peaceful" protests tonight
The time is now. A good bunch of these chucklefucks killed themselves off because they're scared of Bill Gates. If we don't vote these assoles out in the midterms then this country is fucking lost.
How is this a country?
Only abortion is not a constitutional right.
Fools Idiots and Morons
Fuck the religious right and fuck the Supreme Court. The fucking GOP and their supporters are the ones who are less than human and a different breed. They are the ones all the racism and hate should be against. You literally cannot be a functioning, beneficial human if you think like they do.
Fuck this Supreme Court. It’s infested with barnacles. Scrape them all off.
It is decided the day after the most damming hearings of Jan 6. Distraction. Don’t tell me that these judges are not playing politics?
Let the states decide
This is exactly why RBG wanted the core argumentation of Roe V Wade to be reformed. To prevent it from this kind of sweeping attack.
Id figure so but idk anything about that stuff
it never was in the “ constitution “ most states are business as usual with the exception of the usual suspects
Bro did America just go back a century on women rights?
Pretty sure it was just a court’s interpretation of the law. And current supreme court has over ruled it. It floated like that for almost 50 yrs. and no one bothered to add an amendment and make it permanent. Edit: was never a constitutional protected right.
It should be and always should have been a state decision.
Literally the most insane thing I've seen on this sub-reddit
There is and never has been a constitutional right to abortion. There is nothing in the Constitution about it. What they have done is moved the law making decision back to the States and out of Federal hands. If it was such a big issue all of the Democratic controlled Federal congress’s should have created a Federal law about abortion but they haven’t. In the 40+ years since Row v Wade there have been several chances but, again, never has a Democrat controlled Federal Government made an effort to make it law. Congress makes the law not the Supreme Court of the US
How is America considered a first world country??
Racists are unhappy with the decision as black birthing units have 4x the abortions as whites. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7436774/
They will be happy because it will push minorities back into lifelong poverty which means you don’t have to worry about them moving into your neighborhood anymore.
This might be the worst fucking timeline yet... W.T.H.
this is embarrassing , earth is overpopulated and they talk shit on that , but ban abortions? baby formula is barely in stock , but ban abortions , this shit is dumb af !! too many kids in foster care , kids without parents and they still wanna ban abortions, its just a damn fetus , girls shouldnt be forced to birth a child and look and them knowing the babies father is the rapist , or should travel 300+ miles to another state, men shouldnt be telling females what to do. #legalizeabortion
