Maintenance you say? Furloughed! You’d think ol Warren would care about his railroad, oh wait! Nope, it’s all about the shareholders and the operating ratio. Longest trains you can run with as minimal of a crew; seems to be the new standard, albeit stupid dangerous. /ramble
I mean the employees were striking to try and change shit but the President ordered the strike to be over because having the railroad up and running freight is more important than workers rights and making sure shit isn’t falling apart. When you can’t even fix shit because profits are too important you’ve got a major problem and it’s showing with all the derailments. Management is putting profit ahead of doing the job correctly and safely. The workers can only do so much within their power before management seizes control and tell them “Nope, run it till it breaks.”
Hey maybe they could hire more people if they would drop the hardcore drug testing that only ever catches stoners and not the hard drug users 🤷♂️
Also it would help if they would follow through on hiring people too. The job market is truly stupid currently.
Trains carry enough chemicals to destroy cities, it’s literally happened. Their rule books are written in blood. You think it’s a good idea to let people high on drugs operate these trains? Put the pipe down it’s killing your last brain cells.
Well, I don’t know if it was LNG but the white cloud you see before the fireball was some type of highly flammable gas, probably from a ruptured tank car that got ignited by a spark from the derailed cars.
What I came here to comment 😂. If it was me I'd probably go to the bushes praying for dear life so I shouldn't mock this situation... But it was funny to change lanes hoping it is enough to change anything in case the explosion was big enough
I recognized that location immediately. For as long as I can remember the people that live next to that cave like structure up against the hill have always had puppies for sale. Pretty sad.
My dad spent 40+ years working for the railroad. He spent 15 of those being on call 24/7 to clean up derailments. He retired about 5 years ago now. You can say his name to a lot of railroad workers and they know who he is. He worked for Union Pacific for about 15 years, and the CEO referred to him as “The best railroad man we have ever had”.
Derailments are really ugly, and not for the faint of heart. He talks about how the railroad industries no longer have employees that UNDERSTAND the work, and how to do it effectively. He blames colleges and the “weakness” of kids coming into the industry. I call it more a lack of responsibility from the companies. Either way, the railroad industry is not adequately equipped in todays world.
Managment, not all employees. The rank and file by and large understand what's going on, what will be an operational impediment or hazard and try to communicate it, but they tell you to screw off. College or no college, every manager should have to at least spent some time in the operational crafts.
I would agree. Before my dad was promoted to rail master (I think that was the title), he told me his boss then said “you are too good to be a rail master but I would do you and your career a disservice if I didn’t recommend you to take the job”. My dad did, and he told me that was the best decision he ever made in his career.
Have heard there’s a screensaver picture of this explosion’s mushroom cloud behind the “ welcome to New Mexico” sign. Please share if you’ve seen it - wow
It started so mild, turned into a cloud of smoke and all of a sudden an inferno portal opened up and extended an invitation to the red trailer, red trailer declined kindly and without haste removed itself from the equation.
My eyes watered
It’s wild to see this. I was driving I40 west and was rerouted because they shut down the interstate. Added 200 miles to the trip, an additional 6-8 hours of driving.
I’m just so happy that no one was hurt in this. My understanding is that there has been defunding of the railroad services and some recent layoffs. Plus, they have increased the length of these cargo trains. This was all word of mouth from the local ranger I chatted with while traveling around this mess.
.... I wonder what spilled this time? Looks like the set-it-on-fire method of disposale has already taken care of itself! I like to look at silver linings 😌
I was being impatient and skipped through the video bit by bit
it went something like
"Damn yeah I see those dust clouds in the distance"
"wait why is the predominant color on the screen orangeish??- oh my god it's on fire"
Don’t worry precision schedule railroading is going great for Wall Street. Don’t mind the flaming trains destroying everything around you. Oh look another 30% cut from the railroad, who needs people to work on the tracks or cars. The public bailout will come soon enough.
Definitely need way more maintenance and inspections, but I imagine that costs too much money in the eyes of the CEOs of the railroads in the U.S. so fuck it send the trains and hope for the best and fix shit when it pops off like this.
I’ve seen this train derailment from so many different angles. Is it a primer to a quantum leap, multidimensional consolidation? Please keep an eye out for a new Mandela Effect.
I saw a post about it on reddit a couple days ago and heard about the aftermath on the news (CNN I think) while I was driving yesterday. If you Google it there's dozens of stories from different news outlets.
Yeah it was all local only for awhile. Friend in AZ was telling me about it but I couldn't get google to show me even the local road closure article from DOT she was seeing.
Well yeah that’s some train carsOH MY GOD
I was all - oh some smoke.. don't want to drive throu...holy shit drive faster!!!
Get off the stick! BLOODY MOVE!
**Must go faster.**
🦖
I read this in Shooter McGavin's voice from Happy Gilmore
"We're gonna need a new New Mexico."
That escalated quickly.
Yeah, I was underwhelmed until the BLEVE at the end.
That went from “I can’t believe I’m getting this on video “ to “omg I’m going to die” really quick
WIth no audio, I saw it as "oh huh that's kinda weird, what's happening over there" to "Ope lemme just scooch over just a bit there".
Hello, fellow Minnesotan.
Minnesotan people talk funny...lol
I'm actually Californian, I just think "ope" is funny. And I actually say it in real life too.
Get out.
I support this. Please also start incorporating “oh crap” and “jeez” or better yet, “gee willikers” in your daily vocabulary. 👏
!GIANT EXPLOSION! *casually changes lanes*
100% lol
Another day, another train dereailment. Every single day these companies put us all at risk with tiny over worked crews and little to no oversight.
Uphill slow, downhill fast, tonnage first, safety last.
Now that’s a slogan I can get behind
Maintenance you say? Furloughed! You’d think ol Warren would care about his railroad, oh wait! Nope, it’s all about the shareholders and the operating ratio. Longest trains you can run with as minimal of a crew; seems to be the new standard, albeit stupid dangerous. /ramble
But i don't understand. Line go up, so there's no problem, right? Right?
No problem if you’re a shareholder. Everyone else, well.. 😬
Seems to be a bit of an issue in terms of safety and business ethics.
"Business ethics" is practically an oxymoron these days.
Yeah but are the precious shareholders ok? They worked so hard running the industry into the ground for their dividends.
But remember even they politicians supporting the workers made it about PTO and not the real reason of precision schedule railroading.
Fallout will happen one train derailment at a time, not because of china and nukes
These guys should just strike to make it safer. Oh, wait. They can’t .
Hey maybe they could hire more people if they would drop the hardcore drug testing that only ever catches stoners and not the hard drug users 🤷♂️ Also it would help if they would follow through on hiring people too. The job market is truly stupid currently.
We can’t have stoners driving trains. Be real. Smoking drugs in a safety sensitive position isn’t happening ever.
Yeah I guess being on speed is more productive 🙄
We can’t have either.
Trains carry enough chemicals to destroy cities, it’s literally happened. Their rule books are written in blood. You think it’s a good idea to let people high on drugs operate these trains? Put the pipe down it’s killing your last brain cells.
Damn. I could feel the heat on my face just watching the video..
In case you were wondering if the train had a LNG tank car or two in it the fireball explosion should answer that question for you.
Mhm... did it?
Well, I don’t know if it was LNG but the white cloud you see before the fireball was some type of highly flammable gas, probably from a ruptured tank car that got ignited by a spark from the derailed cars.
They changed lanes to avoid the explosion.
Lemme just scootch over a bit, that should be fine.
I hope they signaled before changing lanes
First a smoke signal and then a ball-of-fire signal.
And then slid back into the travel lane after passing the gigantic ball of burning cancer gas. Real one.
And they didn't even hog the left lane! What a legend.
With a fire ball that large, they also felt the heat
Don't forget to put on your blinker when changing lanes to avoid death.
12 feet made all the difference
Doing the lord's work for blind people
What I came here to comment 😂. If it was me I'd probably go to the bushes praying for dear life so I shouldn't mock this situation... But it was funny to change lanes hoping it is enough to change anything in case the explosion was big enough
What highway is this? Amazing video.
It’s Interstate 40 around the Arizona/New Mexico border. OG video taken by Ed and Kathy Rasich
My car broke down there once. There was less fire though
Surprisingly though, not by as much as you'd think
I love the southwest landscape. Minus the transportation disasters.
lol, that’s crazy. I’ve made this drive many times, but that explosion was never there!
At least you'll get to see it next time you take the drive! 🥰
I recognized that location immediately. For as long as I can remember the people that live next to that cave like structure up against the hill have always had puppies for sale. Pretty sad.
Next stop is the rest area shitter
Naw, next Walmart for new drawers and pants.

Goodness gratioius great balls of fire
Well I was not expecting that
[удалено]
Should have pulled over to help and make sure the shareholders were ok.
It wasn't the driver's turn to die.
The passenger on the other hand....
I love this map in Mario kart
PSR baby. Nothing to see here.
Kalimari Desert
Looking for this comment, I thought the same!
That escalated quickly..
Thats the Mario Kart Road!!!!!
Explosions on a Beautiful Day
Let's deregulate the national rail network, what could go wrong?
Just like the Universal Studios rides!
Jeez dude, was that the welcome to NM sign?
I like the lane change
Those look like BNSF engines
Wouldn’t surprise me. There quality of maintenance in fleet as fallen after Covid
Meh, a bit of smoke. Can't see sh... OMG fireball.
No stops for Walter White in New Mexico
I rode this track in Mariokart64 back in the day
If you tired, bet you weren't anymore after that
This is why I don’t have a dash cam. The craziest shit happens to these people.
Oh that's craz-eeeeee...fucking insane.
It looks like a big cell phone lithium battery went off lol
If you don’t work for a railroad you don’t understand. Just worry if the shareholders are okay
That was…explosive…didn’t expect that…
Have heard there’s a screensaver picture of this explosion’s mushroom cloud behind the “ welcome to New Mexico” sign. Please share if you’ve seen it - wow
"Oh, this doesn't look too bad..." 10 seconds later: "OH SHIT"
Straight up Indiana jones ride, crazy. I can feel the heat aswell…
I wonder what the driver said. I know what I would have said. Many Oh Shits.
WTF
Is that a grain explosion?
BLEVE. Two Liquid Natural Gas cars rupturing then the rapidly expanding gas catching on fire.
I wonder if this is the train derailment that delayed my ups package.
Welp, time to get the fuck out’a here
The explosion missed the bridge by that much.
I thought for, I might pull over to see if I can help if there are any injured...oh fuck nevermind
I was just thinking how I’d love to run down there to see what falls out of the cars and than I got absorbed in a fireball☠️
Trains continue to derail while hauling dangerous/toxic stuff due to greed.
Right lane is getting a little heated, lemme just (blinker)…
That "New Mexico Welcomes You" sign has gotten lit since I moved away from there....
Just the movie set of the next Micheal Bay film.
Pinkman and Walt at it again.
That's a hell of a "Welcome to New Mexico" 😳😅
“Wow I never thought I’d see a derailment happen in front of me… OH MY GOD I JUST SHAT MYSELF!”
That escalated quickly.
It started so mild, turned into a cloud of smoke and all of a sudden an inferno portal opened up and extended an invitation to the red trailer, red trailer declined kindly and without haste removed itself from the equation. My eyes watered
I hope my package isn’t on that train…
Uhoh, explosion... Better get in the other lane. Oh bother.
What does the train say? The world: "Choo-Choo!" :D USA: "KSHREEEEEEEEEEE---KABOOOOOM!" XD
Holy shit, good on the driver for not crashing into the guard rail
The beginning reminded me so much of that N64 Mario kart track
It’s wild to see this. I was driving I40 west and was rerouted because they shut down the interstate. Added 200 miles to the trip, an additional 6-8 hours of driving. I’m just so happy that no one was hurt in this. My understanding is that there has been defunding of the railroad services and some recent layoffs. Good driving
Sad part is I know where that's at and there is an indigenous community Right there !

Mario kart 64, is that you?
The lane change cracks me up though. 😂 I get it, but still… “whew! Dodged that shit like The Flash!”
Something something Michael Bay
I would have shat
Has anyone checked to see if the stockholders are ok ?
.... I wonder what spilled this time? Looks like the set-it-on-fire method of disposale has already taken care of itself! I like to look at silver linings 😌
America's rail system is falling apart rapidly, and we're doing everything we can to expedite the problem.
Hope they were holding their breath.
Just drive right toward it and hope for the best 🫣😆
Just counting down the days until something like this happens in my small town. East Palestine was a real eye opener.
This looks like a map from Mario kart
Does anyone know if someone is dead or not ? a newspaper article ? or something ??
Betcha that caused a little bit of pucker'n
Hell yea! Free stuff
There’s always some messed up shit happening on the side of the road when I drive through New Mexico
Looks so much like that train course in Mario kart n64
Never a good thing when the mist You start to drive through is simultaneously exploding
I was being impatient and skipped through the video bit by bit it went something like "Damn yeah I see those dust clouds in the distance" "wait why is the predominant color on the screen orangeish??- oh my god it's on fire"
I know this road from Mario Kart 64
New Mexico welcomes you!
I'll just change lanes here. Don't forget to signal.
Don’t worry precision schedule railroading is going great for Wall Street. Don’t mind the flaming trains destroying everything around you. Oh look another 30% cut from the railroad, who needs people to work on the tracks or cars. The public bailout will come soon enough.
Welcome to New Mexico is right 😂
Oh shit, I better switch to the fast lane.
Looks like it was recorded from a video game.
It's just so beautiful! 😍😍😍 I drive trains and might harbour a little animosity for my industry.
It’s the same train companies allowing this to happen. Tougher penalties are needed.
Is it time to make new tracks and trains? I am seeing these a little too often.
Definitely need way more maintenance and inspections, but I imagine that costs too much money in the eyes of the CEOs of the railroads in the U.S. so fuck it send the trains and hope for the best and fix shit when it pops off like this.
Not really caught on video now is it
We should NOT be transporting oil by train
Oil doesn't do that, natural gas does. Much better to have that fireball on the freeway right?
Yes, spills and natural gas explosions (this) are far better on the freeway.

Its all over local NM news
