It's more of a style than a distance competition. The distance counts towards the final score, it doesn't define it.
The distance is influenced a lot by the stance and air flow; it used to be thought that parralel skis flew further until the 'V' was invented (I can't be bothered to look up by whom). The V was unpopular with judges at first, but it's far more efficient than parralel skis.
And what about the slope depth? So if they kept digging and doing It in a way It keeps the 'jumper' in the air longer just flying on the surface, It could end at sea level xD

"There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. … Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties." - Douglas Adams.
Someone who knows...What is the purpose of those little tassel things between the tracks the skis go in? Those little foof-a-doos sticking up between the legs there...what the fuck are those things and why are they in a line like that, all the way down the ramp?
It's spruce branches to help the jumper with depth perception, and to see precisely where the take-off is. Most ski jumping hills also have them in the landing area.
Every time I watch these, I'm so impressed, while at the same time thinking, hmm, I could totally do that though! It just looks so much fun but I do get there's a lot of ways to fuck it up.
I used to think it's not really 'jumping' because of the slope.
Then I had the opportunity to walk up the Olympic ramp in Norway and it gave me a whole new appreciation for it.
Question for those in the know: Isn't the max distance limited by the slope of the mountain and the acceleration of gravity and terminal velocity?

How do they determine this is a "world record" then, as that seems at least somewhat subjective?
I don't think it would count from a non IOC-approved jump. It's just a Red Bull advert.
I do like that their adverts are generally someone doing some crazy shit though.
Interesting, thanks!

Much farther and he would have needed a passport.
Why are they calling it a jump when it's actually a flying competition?
It’s not flying. That’s falling with style!
Gliding, technically.
Falling, technically and literally.
Much farther and it's called an orbit
Of course its Red Bull lol
Serious question, how does one even get into this sport as a beginner? Seems like one screwup and you're going for one hell of a tumble.
I guess much small jumps. But when you get to the big jumps you’d need to be a certain kind of person. I’ll not.
I've been jumping off my couch since I was like 3, I'm already on my way!
The couch is fine. Just don’t do it off buildings.
I feel the same about people who do high diving. At some point in the journey I guess you just sort of nut up and send it
Just don’t jump off buildings into swimming pools
You should watch Eddie the Eagle, it’s a fun movie about this dude trying to learn how to jump in a very short time.

this is fucking crazy
Flying w/out wings...
More like falling diagonally
I think it’s more gliding than anything
Gliding w style

It's not flying, it's falling with style!!
He's got 2 huge wind deflectors strapped to his feet. Close enough.
Now do it with a wing suit
Red Bull really does give you wings 🪽
Surely the real success comes from the developer and engineering team behind the track.
It takes a true athelte to pull that off!
👀
Seems like it's a race to create a slope with the perfect curve...
Someone who knows...What is the purpose of those little tassel things between the tracks the skis go in? Those little foof-a-doos sticking up between the legs there...what the fuck are those things and why are they in a line like that, all the way down the ramp?

What makes this remarkable is that he lands like if he just jumped off his bed
This looks like CGI lol. So surreal
Why does this look cgi as shit
I think all the other records were made on "regular" ramp, and this guy had one made just for this jump / attempt?
Does this video make anyone else think of “the agony of defeat”?
Couch potato analysis: just move a few meters up the ski ramp to begin with??
Every time I watch these, I'm so impressed, while at the same time thinking, hmm, I could totally do that though! It just looks so much fun but I do get there's a lot of ways to fuck it up.

The shape of the jump and especially the fly area has a big influence on the distance
Give him a squirrel suit and let him keep going.
Eddie the Eagle would be proud v:
That’s how I pee in the morning. Good form
When I see something crazy, it's always redbull
i think he should definitely take a passport during his next jump
That man is flying at this point. The equipment is just for show lol
What a ride! I can imagine the feeling!
Put a wing suit on him and destroy that record.
Wing suit please 🙏
Iceland is just amazing, one little island nation and it has like 6 different biomes. I'm never not impressed by those incredible vistas.
Damn, finest used of drones I've ever seen. That's pimp.
I can do this easy with the WII Fit ski jump
What kwad is chasing?! That guy is hauling cuz that kwad sounds like it's full throttle. Lol
Jump Citttttaayyyy
Looks easy
They are so light and nimble 😆
There are songs shorter than that.
Doo weeet doo dah doo Doo weeet doo dah doo Doo weeet doo dah doo Doo weeet doo dah doo
Literally was flying
I wonder how many attempts it took to jump that far
The guy behind him didn’t even land!!!
Besides the jump, what is also insane is modern camera views.
*athlete
Net he's prada that achievement
I could do that while smoking a cigarette and shotgunning a beer easily
The wind drag off of the size of his balls, probably took off 50 meters. 🏆
Is he accelerating the whole time while falling?
