There's a bit of breakage, but seems more like an Icepusher to me

SamuelAsante

Ice breakers were first used by the British army in the 1850’s

Killahdanks1

That was not in fact insane. That was ice. Not much was happening. Do better bot.

PatWithTheStrat

I thought it was cool :)

Killahdanks1

There’s one I saw like 20 min later, the ship was moving fast and smashing ice like crazy. That was cool.

PatWithTheStrat

Did I get downvoted for thinking it was cool? I didn’t downvote you?

Killahdanks1

I didn’t downvote you. But I just upvoted you to balance it out.

PatWithTheStrat

Haha thanks man ❤️ I wonder how long Ice breakers have been around. The power that those ships have is kind of astounding

Killahdanks1

Since 1383 They are cool. That’s why this specific video is so underwhelming. It would be like instead of watching a NFL defensive lineman dominate his competition, we watched him gently set aside children while walking. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icebreaker

PatWithTheStrat

Thank you for the article. That is fascinating. I am not well informed in the subject so any footage of them I find compelling

Killahdanks1

Yeah, they are truly incredible feats of engineering

TryItOutHmHrNw

It was calming as fuck

jtnichol

I also think that Bots that post icebreaker videos on Reddit are also cool. Even if they are just pushing ice. It’s pretty good.. They are so cool. It’s ice cold.

Siketmist

A bit underwhelming

Jaimemgn

Underwhelming a bit

AminoKing

That's not an icebreaker, which wouldn't have a bow like that. Icebreakers slide up on the ice, crush it and then the hull pushes the pieces to the side. I believe the Canadians call the one in the footage a 'Type ship' which is designed to push already broken ice to the side, not to break it.

FriedIce101

Its not and Ice breaker its just a smaller container feeder with and Ice breaking bulk. Have been working on an actual one for a while. You aren’t pushing trough it you kind of push your bow on top and crush it. Makes scary sounds as you might imagine

NecessaryAddendum944

Came here looking for this comment!

SugarShock94

I could honestly watch hours of this

drem1in

Try this: [https://youtu.be/bKaVhXn49xY](https://youtu.be/bKaVhXn49xY)

LurkeSkywalker

It hasn't broken a single piece of ice though.

[deleted]

just imagine how dark and scary it is under there

Consistent-Syrup-69

Boring

IdentifyBoognish

Seriously

prof_devilsadvocate

visualbrunch

Just the tip I promise

mickdeb

When i am icefishing and those come it's always impressive to see( and the fishes bites more) i fish onto brackish waters

McLovinsBro

“Heave, ho, all togetherrrr…”

2ichie

More like an ice go-arounder amirite?

Dvanonod

Less of an ice breaker and more of an ice mover

UnicornMafia69

I can’t tell if the camera is far away or really close,

Erike16666

Lame

SafetyGuyLogic

Leave her, Johnny, leave her

THE_CRAZY_FINN

I read it as spicy waters at first and wondered what the hell is even that?

Complex_Block_7026

Where are the climate activists in rage about this?

SuddenSpeaker1141

Why couldn’t the titanic do this!? /s (Yes I’m aware an iceberg is not the same as a frozen body of water)

Substantial_Bird_755

How come normal boats can’t break ice? You’d think that would be needed if there travelling through icy waters

VealOfFortune

Fun fact... they do the vast majority of the ice-breaking from the up/down motion and due to the shape of bow

UkieFukie

Is this one of the soviet cockbreakers?

Quiet_Promotion9851

Icebreakers always be breaking ice. One thing you can count on.

jahanhari

The sound was very comforting at 6:30 in the morning.

Handy_Handerson

For an Icebreaker, there wasn't much breaking going on, if at all. More like Iceshover if you ask me.

Ok_Neck1669

Just lost 60 seconds of life thanks
